We just spent a lovely few days here. There is not one negative comment I could possibly come up with. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. I was hoping for one cooler night to use the fire place. The pool area is lovely with enough seating. It is kept very clean. Breakfast is terrific. Some good wines and an A+ experience. Not all the wines we tasted were winners, but even the ones we didn't care for showed potential. Our pourer was friendly and informative and took the time to answer all our questions. Afterwards, he suggested we head up to the observation tower through the restaurant, and I'm glad we did. Our vantage point from the tasting room was top notch as our window overlooked the pool and the vineyard, but the 360 views from the tower were really something. We order 2 of our favourite bottle of wines to send to our friends 50th wedding anniversary. This was over 3 weeks ago. When it didn't arrive on the date given, the winery said it was the shipping company's fault. But the winery would be delivered within the next 4 days. That was 1 week ago. The winery is great (otherwise we would not have ordered it) the execution to deliver it is the WORST and most disappointing experience I have ever had. The tasting room was surprisingly unbusy this morning, so it surprised us when we were still asked to squeeze into a small tasting space along the bar (the boys ended up standing behind us). We were taken through five wines with a good variety of white and red. We had a surprise sixth. I bought a bottle of their Athene, which wasn't even one we tasted--I just know I like it! To be honest the wine did not blow my mind. Dont get me wrong it was all really good and the tasty room is very nice. My wife did buy a wine and some souvenirs but I did not grab a red. HOWEVER lunch was amazing! Honestly one of the best I have had in a long time!! The salmon was so perfect! Moist and just delicious! We had the special, not sure what it was. Random stuff on bread. Mushrooms, cheese, meat and sauce but omg it was amazing. I know my description is terrible but I should have listened to what it was! The service was decent. We ended up venturing out to Burrowing Owl 2x while on our trip to Osoyoos The first time was with my wife and my brother and sister in-laws The second was with my wife and my father in-law and my wife's uncle The winery is HUGE Vast acres of different grapes cover the land The winery also moonlights as a resort where you can stay at the guest rooms they have They have a pool are as well where you can swim and lounge out There is a restaurant there which has menu fit for a winery A bit on the pricy side but it's what you get when dining at such a place The highlight for me was the observation deck From there you can get an amazing view of the winery, getting a good look at the sprawl of grapevines the cover the land You can also venture lower into where they produce the wine Unfortunately if you get to the bottom, the area was closed off due to construction Myself along with my brother and sister-in-law ended up doing a wine tasting the first time we were there There is a set menu of 5 wines they provide you The two whites you get are the Pinot Gris and Chardonnay The Gris was definitely my fav of the two Chardonnay really wasn't for me due to the buttery taste I got from it The three reds we got were the Pinot Noir, the Merlot and the Athene I really liked the merlot as it had a really nice light taste to it and I'm not really a red wine drinker I also like the hybrid Athene which was unique We got thrown in at the end of the session a nice sweet port wine More on the sweet side but super yummy My father in-law and my wife's uncle even enjoyed their tasting as well when we went again with them, and they are Italian so you know they are about their vino The servers were that did the wine tastings were really good and gave us extensive info on the wines we were tasting Loved that the $5 tasting fee went to the Burrowing Owl Conservation Society which one of my sister in-law's who is animal lover appreciated Lots of neat souvenirs to bring back Would definitely recommend this place a must see winery in the region read more

Of the 14 wineries we visited this was one of our better wine tasting experiences. There is a non-refundable tasting fee but it is donated to a burrowing owl conservation effort. We had a reservation and were directed to a large high top circular table that could seat 6. Everyone was able to be socially distanced but the server could take care of more than 1 couple very efficiently. The wine pours were generous and very good descriptions given. We were given a decent amount of time to savour each wine as it was poured. Even although my husband is a red wine drinker he says that burrowing owl pinot gris is one of his favourite white wines. All tax and fees are included in the pricing We purchased a bottle of pinot gris and a bottle of merlot. The wine tasting offers very good value. read more

Very bad experience attempting to eat in the restaurant on July 13, 2023. After being seated by the hostess, we were abandoned and left to sit. Our water selection was never brought. No one came to take our order. While the place did not appear to be overly busy with customers, staff was very busy having prolong conversations at tables. We overheard one server in a lengthy conversation regarding her tattoos and a server at another table going on and on about her father-in-law who resides on Cortez Island and recently got internet service. It's a pity. We had driven on a local's recommendation several miles from Kelowna specifically to Burrowing Owl for lunch. Oh well. read more

Where do I start...I recommend skipping this winery, it was a HUGE disappointment. As soon as we arrived we were treated as if we were a burden. It was an absolute terrible experience. Understandably they were busy, but arrived only a few minutes into our tasting they made comments that we were too late but that we would have a short tasting as a result. Therefore, the tasting experience was insanely rushed and felt incredibly uncomfortable as the tasting person was awkwardly standing there waiting for us to finish our tasting- noticeably anxious and distracted. I wanted to run out the door, the vibe was so bad. The manager (we assume) walked over to once again remind us of how busy they were (5 mins into our tasting) and how she had a big party coming in soon to take our place, awkwardly pointing out how she needed the space we were occupying (well thank you, we feel really important now ;) This was our first winery we visited in Canada and it left a bad taste in our mouth (I don't even know if the wines were very good because I couldn't focus on the experience). We came in with the intention of buying a lot of wine because we were so excited about this one and the reviews we read- we even put back everything we had planned to buy in the gift area due to the service. And side note: but they don't have burrowing owls here so nothing cool to see (and it's a bit misleading) It just feels like a tourist trap where they try to make as much money as possible. It was a lovely winery, and I've heard good things about the wine (it is my co-worker's favourite winery, which is why I wanted to stop here). But perhaps because I was tired and tipsy after a full day of wine tasting, I wasn't so into the wines that I sampled. There was nothing wrong with the wine, but nothing stood out. One of my favorite stops in Oosoyos, mainly because of the reds we sampled in the tasting room. All the money (just $3) from the tasting here goes to a nonprofit owl conservation society that supports the namesake burrowing owls that seem to return to the area in smaller numbers each year. Imagine being the one bird of prey that decides to burrow into abandoned gopher holes rather than to make a nest up high in the trees, making this baby bird of prey frequently prey itself, as owlets are gobbled up by larger predators, hawks, foxes, coyotes, larger eagles. Out of all the winery restaurants we tried in Okanagan (just a few honestly) we found this one to be the most reliable food-wise and enjoyed our meal here, from wines to starters to main courses (Skip their sandwiches though.) When I first tried Burrowing Owl's Gerwertztraminer several months ago, I became an instant fan of gerwertztraminers. Last night I enjoyed their gerwertztraminer at their restaurant. Today, we returned to the wine shop. Unfortunately, they did not have any gerwertztraminers available, but we tasted three other wines that they had available. We chose the 2006 chardonnay. I can't wait to open the bottle! If you are looking for an off season getaway (through Dec. 15), call Burrowing Owl about their Guest House. They have 10 guest rooms and one penthouse. Burrowing Owl is an imposing winery way up on the hill of the Black Sage Bench. You can get a fabulous view of the South Okanagan Valley from their patio. The winery has a self-guided tour with lots of written material posted around for you to educate yourself about the wine making process. It's one of the major wineries to visit when you're in the area. The wine shop is usually busy, since Burrowing Owl wine is developing a cult-like following with Vancouverites. You don't get the same personal face-time with winemakers as you often do at smaller wineries. Sometimes you get lucky, but not too often. Burrowing Owl wines tend to be a bit more expensive, for example, their Meritage is $45. Whites are still around the $25 mark. Be sure to check out their restaurant! The 5 stars are for the resturaunt. I'm not rating the winery as a whole. The food is amazing. The service fantastic. I ate lunch here in late October and they had just changed the menu to the fall. I had the special which was the lamb chops and I was blown away. They were cooked to perfection, the presentation was fabulous. Its a little pricy, but worth it. We did our wine tour after the summer rush, so it wasn't too busy. The waitress was prompt without being pushy and everybody was superfriendly (even after my cell phone rang, oops - sorry...). Desert was also amazing. I had the carrot cake with the goatcheese icing, and now I am googling how to make goat cheese icing. It came with ginger icecream, which wasn't too overbearing. Perfectly complementary. My friend got the bread pudding with the wiskey icecream. She loved it as well. Healthy - Yes. Lots of healthy options. Since then, the winery has received widespread accolades for its wines, particularly its red vintages, resulting annually in sold-out inventory. Very lovely setting but the place is too busy, the wine just OK and the restaurant was a huge disappointment. Wraparound deck overlooking the valley would have been nice but each table had a view of poorly maintained, nearly dead flower basket. Burger should have been tasty but was cold, obviously prepared ahead of time and reheated. Soup was tasteless. Server was at least very nice and manager comped my lunch. Sorry to see this. I love everything about the winery and the tasting room. The shop sells so many unique items! The young lady at the front desk for both check in and out that was the sweetest woman, so kind! Really, the only negative here is that the restaurant overlooks the pool and hot tub, offering zero privacy. Same thing with the porches, being so open with neighbors. Best winery and shop. We've been here several times and everytime we go, the service in the tasting room gets worse. People that are employed there simply don't care about the experience that people are looking for. Also the vintages of reds have slipped for about 4 consecutive years. '15 was a good year but if you couldn't produce good wine in '15 you weren't a wine maker. read more

The Guest House is surrounded by such beautiful scenic wineries. The view is stunning. Upon check in Joyce was very helpful. She walked us to our room and showed us how everything works. Bob was very nice as well. We were in room #10. Definitely a room worth asking for. I's on the upper level in this room the windows face both sides of the wineries, so you get 2 views. Spacious room! Very well laid out, nice sized balcony. The pool is nice and has a hot tub. The restaurant on site was great. The food was delicious!! However on the downside if you are sitting outside especially during dinner time, there are lots of fruit flies and even with a glass cover you have to be careful. There were some fruit flies flying around during breakfast too. Despite the fruit flies, this is an amazing place to stay. You will have no regrets. It is geared towards couples, so was nice and quiet and relaxing. No families or kids when we visited. Room Tip: Ask for room #10. If that ones not available, all other rooms are great as well. Loved this winery. After a 5 hour drive we were all hungry and hot and tired and just wanted to soak in what Osoyoos/Olive has to offer. The view alone at this winery makes it worth visiting. They also have accommodations at this winery - definitely meant for couples, very romantic environment. There's an outdoor pool with a cool sundial outside. My boyfriend was so impressed with the grounds and the view that he said he wants to stay here the next time we come out here just the two of us (we did a group trip this time with 6 people). We had lunch at The Sonora Room which I will detail in a separate review. Now for the winery experience: They have this cool stairwell that you can access through the restaurant that takes you upstairs to the lookout deck, it's really just like 5 flights of stairs but along the walls there are posters and informational signs about how the wine is made, what the different types of grapes are and so on. I enjoyed it and the information was well presented - getting wine educated is actually fun! It is a $3 donation per person for a wine tasting (they restrict you to 4 types of wine) but I think if they sense that you are actually interested and not just trying to get drunk of wine tasting they are quite nice about trying more. They were pretty busy when we were there but we were served well and we didn't have to wait extremely long. wines are average priced, we ended up taking home two of their 2011 Malbec, loved their Pino Gris (hint of apple, with a sweet up front taste), and my boyfriend got the Athine I believe it's called - this one was quite strong and had hints of pepper which I don't personally enjoy but he loved it. Burrowing Owl is a lovely resort winery destination. They have a luxurious guest house with 10 rooms and a suite, a fine dining restaurant, winery tours and a beautiful tasting room. And it was easily 200% busier than any other winery that we stopped at. So why not 5 stars? We were totally turned off by all of the lemmings packing the tasting room and monopolizing the tasting counters. The unquestioning devotion is not entirely baseless as we tasted a 2009 Chardonnay and a 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, both of which were worthy of high praise, but even so, in our opinion they were not the best in the Okanagan or worth the prices that were quite a bit higher than their competitors. Good on you Burrowing Owl, through successful marketing, a lovely environment and a decent product you have managed to convince a large contingent of people with disposable income to desire your product above any other. Interestingly enough this was the only tasting room that pushed the tasting fee even if you made a purchase. read more

We stayed here for 4 nights. The place only has 10-12 rooms and is 10 min drive to Osoyoos, but the service is great, the area is quiet, the views are great as well. The room was a good size. Our bed was comfortable but our other family members said their beds were too soft so there doesn't seem to be consistency in bed quality. If that's important to you, better ask for that before booking. The prices are reasonable off season, but in June 2016 rates were listed at $399 per night. We came May 13-17 and we paid $259 per night. One good part we didn't know about is FREE breakfast. It was delicious, amazing, all fresh and lots of food. Iris was there 3 out of 4 days, she makes the best egg quiches. There was cereal, toast, yogurt, granola, sweets, fresh fruit, coffee and more. If you think of a price of breakfast for 2 each day the price becomes more palatable for higher season prices. The cleaning service was on point. Overall a great place to stay if you want piece and quiet vs staying in Osoyoos. read more

The Burrowing Owl was the last stop after a few wineries so we were kind of running a bit out of steam. The place is beautiful featuring what appeared to be a nice restaurant and 10 guesthouses that apparently are VERY busy during the summer (we asked to see one but they were all booked). The wine shop itself is quite nice, tasting were $2 per person. They they donate the $2 to an owl charity. This was the only winery that didn't refund the tasting when we bought a few bottles of wine from them (but as it was going to a charity this was definitely acceptable). Their higher end wine was more expensive than the other wineries we visited. Room rates (2010) are (min stay required during peak season): feb 12 - apr 1 - $175 apr 2 - apr 30 -$225 may 1 - june 24 - $275 june 25 - oct 11 - $350 oct 12 - oct 31 - $250 nov 1 - dec 19 - $175 To me this seems VERY expensive, the rooms did not appear very big, but judging by the brochure the rooms looked very nice. I would love to come back and stay here, but at that price it would tough to fork over that sort of dough. read more

The restaurant is excellent, with good food, and my friend SWEARS by the Flame Caesar. For those of you that don't know, Flame is a ice-wine with a jalapeno, made by another vineyard nearby. In comparison to their rivals, I'd put them in the average....nothing piqued my interest enough to want it again. Stop for the view, restaurant, and do try the wine but just don't expect the best for the area. The grounds are some of the best for the area, and the staff are quite nice and fairly well informed. It is a bigger winery, and with it's attraction, the tasting room does get quite crowded at times. Price points are a bit high for quality, but do try the restaurant....especially if you can sit on the deck outside. read more
