Have use this service only few times and can say only one bad thing about it - drivers take their time on their break and don't care to leave on time as scheduled. My buss supposed to leave at 16:00, but driver came with a cup of tea only at 16:10 and while everybody hopped on the bus it was 16:15 when it moved off. However bus was late, driver himself was very helpful answering my questions and advising me where I should get off. So, minus and plus at the same time. Bus is grand. O love that they had handy capped spots, so I sat there to have open space in front of me and could stretchz my legs as much as I wanted. Bus Ēireann has WiFi on board. But be warned, because it wouldn't play youtube videos on at least mobile version of youtube.com. It loaded youtube, but not the actual video. Speed down was ~4Mbps and up - ~4Mbps. The stations were not bad in terms of cleanliness, staffing and efficiency. The drivers were generally polite. The scenery along the way was quite nice at times and it proved to not only be a decently efficient mode of transportation but also a good way to see attractive countryside. I bought a single to Waterford from Dublin. On board the toilet was broken with no toilet paper. The windows inside were dirty from someone's drink spillage on an earlier journey. The seats slide back so my travel companion had crushed legs for most of the journey. I get that you can put back the back of the seat but not the whole chair!!. *updated* My god how I wish I could get a private coach to Kells (the route I take most often) because I encountered the most rude and horrible driver ever yesterday, never have I been met with such hostility and made to feel so embarrassed by someone who supposedly works in a customer service role. Not to mention the time before this, the private coach that was sent by Bus Éireann broke down and Bus Éireann did NOTHING to assist us. They really do provide a horrendous service. Just a tip - don't depend on bus eireann's official timetable to plan your journey. Never have I ever gotten a bus at the time it says, I'm always left either running to catch it or not even waiting an age. Not a fantastic service considering the price of tickets!! The stars given are because generally the coaches are in good condition, the newer ones are comfortable, and the drivers have so far always been pleasant, so when you do manage to get your bus, the journey isn't so bad! read more

Its a damn sight better than when I was riding it when I was a student in the 80's. It also is a total lifesaver when Aer Arann fucks you over and you absolutely have to be at least in spitting distance of your father's funeral the next day and the local airports are on standstill due to a huge blanket of snow. So, while standing in the bleedin freezing guts of winter outside of Dublin Airport, trembling in fear of missing a bus going ANYWHERE in a northerly direction, I noticed from the maps posted on the bus shelters, that Bus Eireann goes pretty much all over the country and really, the prices are not that bad, unless the bus driver made a mistake. A wee bit under 60 yo yos from Dublin to Stranorlar (aye, in da nort like) for three of us. The seats are not conducive to sleeping after getting off a transatlantic flight and eating a pile of sausages and puddin that your brother cooked for you, but you are more than likely not going to have a passenger next to you so you can curl your legs up, drool all over the place, snore and fart at your leisure. and if you get bored of reading your book you can always watch the riveting cctv of the road in front of you. I'm one of those low carbon non car drivers, who always takes the bus or the train. Now I have found Bus Eireann has many discrepancys with their fares . For example the journey from Cork city to Dublin city, and Donegal Town to Dublin City they are totally different fares though the time and distance is the same. Donegal to Dublin is 31 euro for an adult return, Cork to Dublin is 22 euro adult return . They have bought out most private busses around the country so that they can monopolize the service and charge what ever they like.Another thing, if you are traveling late at night to Donegal from Dublin god help you, they stop at a closed up bus eireann station, and there's nowhere to go to the loo,let alone buy a sandwich,crisps or a drink or newspaper, their only service that stops some where decent is the one they bought from Mc Geehans a private bus company,they still use the same decent place, next to mc donalds, where you can use a loo, and get your snacks etc. I miss mc Geehans, decent prices and a damn good service . read more

I rode with Bus Eireann twice (two round trips). Once to Galways and once to Cork. The only real negative I can think of is that there's no toilet on the bus. While there were stops midway on both of my trips, I would just have better peace of mind knowing that there is somewhere to pee during a four hour journey if the need arises. Anyway, everything detail about my trips with Bus Eireann went quite smoothly. I suppose the first plus is the reason that I chose to travel with them in the first place--they're cheaper than the train. From Dublin, you can travel to the majority of the country for less than €15. Now that is quite a good deal. It's also an event in and of itself to drive through the Irish countryside. I saw some of the most beautiful views of the country during my bus rides with Bus Eireann. This is definitely a great way to get around the country. read more

People while about buses a lot. They're too slow, they make me nauseous, etc. I find them easy. After enduring rides on Bolivian buses with no bathrooms, sitting next to a woman holding a box full of chickens, and a window that's broken so that it slides open every 5 minutes for 27 hours, sending blasts of Andean winds directly into my face.... Let's just say traveling for 4 hours through the pleasant Irish country side is not a piece of cake, but the entire thing. The buses aren't fancy and aren't equipped with DVD players or anything, but they stop midway through the journey and it's usually at a reasonably priced gas station or something of that nature. Plus, it's probably the cheapest way to get around Ireland unless you get one of the train deals for 10 euros each way. read more

I've taken Bus Eireann a few times with large groups or with a few friends and it always works out great. For groups sometimes they give you your own bus. If you buy the tickets online or as part of a group it usually works out cheaper, so that's nice. The bus station in Dublin is a bit gross, probably because it always had birds inside it, but the buses that I've been on are always clean and timely. The only issue I have with them is how uncomfortable the seats are if you are on them for more than 3 hours! Also, the last time I used them, we were half an hour away from Killarney and the bus driver had to stop to take his 45 minute break...I'm told its the law that he has to but that's a silly law.... read more

I think that I've only got a Bus Eireann bus once in my life, or at least only once since I've been a little kid. I got the bus to Belfast about a year ago (and I got a bus back, so I guess I've been on Bus Eireann buses twice.) The bus was very reasonable (10 spots, if I remember correctly), and we got the bus up late enough on a Friday evening, so the traffic was fairly light and we got to Belfast in good time. Happy days all round, then. But, on the way back, we were all fairly mouldy hung-over. Coaches are warm and unpleasant at the best of times, but after two days on the lash, a lot of us were fairly suffering. Somewhat inevitably, one of the girls felt sick. And there was no bathroom on this bus. "Try to hold it in!", I implored, "only another... forty(ish) minutes to Dublin! I'll put you out of your misery - clearly she wasn't able to keep from spewing the rest of the way to Dublin; however she did have the presence of mind to vomit into a plastic bag in the relative seclusion of the emergency exit stairwell. So, Bus Eireann: way cheaper than the train and not that much longer a journey time, but toilets on buses, if you please. read more

One of Irelands most disaster services, never helpful, website timetable is always wrong and they never answer the phone

I've spent a lot of time travelling on Bus Eireann buses, and while they do get to be annoying and monotonous, I must say I have a bit of a soft spot for the old Bus Eireann. The services take years to get from one city to another, and it's not as though the driver is taking the scenic route. Unless you consider Athlone a tourist attraction, of course. They are fairly cheap, however, and I love to spot the Irish names on the front of the bus and try to figure out where they're going before the English version pops up (ok, ok, I'm not Irish, I didn't learn Irish at school, and I find it quite fascinating that the buses provide bilingual destination signs. It's a real novelty for me, and full marks to Bus Eireann for so visibly making an effort to preserve the Irish language.) A return to Galway will cost around 20 euro, and is cheaper if you book online before the day of travel. These services do take forever, but they will get you to your destination and they run until all hours. So that's a bonus in itself. read more

Pathetic service. they claim they clean the bus seats daily but thats their first lie i have gone on the bus finding people injecting, pissing on the back seats let alone their scheduling it doesnt go by what they post online it goes by the drivers time so when you miss your flight due to their service is another issue now recently i have contact this trash service seeking transportation for my 5 and 6 year old children to avoid walking 45 mins 2 times a day to get them to school they say their buses are full but since September i have walked past all the buses going to the local school and i see 4 total children per bus fair enough if they dont always get on the bus but have a 3 month leway period to fix that issue now back to what i was saying i called today to avail of their service which i could avail of free if im more than 3.2k from the school im 3.3k but by bus eireanns logic they found a route that offers a quick 2.7k which is straight a lie there is 2 roads that direct you to the school one at 4.0k and the other at 3.7k but they know this magical route that is not on the maps and only other route you can use is over 5k all one direction keep in mind so beyond that my kids are sick almost every day due to the weather and given the current crises you would hope life would help in some ways but nope this service just makes it difficult. I live Carlow and travelled with my partner and kids to dublin to get a transfer bus to castleblayney and due to the drivers patient driving i missed my connecting bus and there was no busses leaving to either my home town or location i was going to so we got stuck in dublin with not allot of money due to the outrages prices bus Eireann charge. I try address it with a superior at the head office they told me to go to their site for complaints. so today when attempting to get a bus for my kids for school i had to register on the website but again another problem arises. their date of birth input field would not accept 20/05/2015 as a valid date because the idiot website developers forgot to remove blank spacing in their code or atleast to ignore them haha. when on call with the help they had the audacity to ask me 3 times if i know my own childs date of birth and i also had to repeat 3 names for them before they got it correct. straight ignorant this is why the youth choose to leave the country the only major public service cant even keep to their own schedules they say give or take 15 minutes haha ok where was that 15 minutes when i waited an hour after the meant to be arrival time just to get on a bus. This is a review of the Bus Eireann Central Depot in Store Street and not the services it provides. I will write separate reviews for each of them services at a later date. The building itself is horrible and in a really bad dodgy part of town. It is really run down and very 1980's looking. Nothing modern or updated about it at all. The seating is limited and hard and metal and not at all comfortable and the atmosphere is flat as most people arrive here and cannot wait to get out of this place! It does however have all the facilities you would need like ticket agents, ticket machines, help and information desk, shop, bar and toilets, although the toilets are horrible and I feel unsafe. So best advice for this place is just get in and get out as quick as you can! read more

Been using Bus Eireann for about 6 years due to lack of other services. Busses arrive/depart on time about 20% of the time. Today took the cake, though A bus I've taken a few times flashed it's lights and didn't stop. Rang Bus Eireann to find out the craic, they said another bus would be there in 15 mins and the original bus was having problems. Rang back half an hour later to be told a replacement bus never existed and the next bus is in three hours. Got to stand out in the rain for 50 minutes for no reason Missed my connecting bus and won't be home until really late tonight assuming the next bus lets me on? Merry Christmas Eve read more

Never ever have I had such a great experience at a bus station firstly a nice Scottish gentleman offered us help without even asking as we must have looked a bit lost he was also a bit of a comedian which was an added bonus. I love getting on a Bus Eireann bus they are always so comfortable and they never fail to get me where I need to go.One day I was so sick and needed to go on an hour and a half long journey it is only when I was half an hour into the journey that I noticed how smooth these buses can really be. The internet connection is superb and helps me get my work done when I am on the go so IO have more time to spend with the family once I reach y destination. I want to give a big shout out to Ray Mehan my bus driver the day I was sick for being one of the most safest drivers I have ever had the pleasure of driving with. No other bus service in any Country in the world today could live up to the shambles this bus company is. 90% it the time it's last, 100% of the time it's a rip off. Rude drivers and also careless, always on their phones. Buses have no air conditioning and resemble a sauna. I have stood on many occasions too. I use Bus Eireann daily to commute (no alternative to my office), and this is the worst public transport of any city I've experienced around the world. I never write reviews but this deserves notice. The bus schedule might as well not exist, ignore it because you will never know when or if your bus is arriving. Just go stand by a Bus Eireann stop and hope one comes. Very often a bus will be listed on the schedule, even shows up on the digital screen, but it will never arrive. These busses may have been cancelled without notice for some unknown reason, but you will never know (there is no customer service or anyone to ask). You will wait 45 min for the next one, which might be late. Just kidding, they are always late - or maybe really early - it's impossible to tell because your bus will arrive 20-30 minutes off of the schedule every time. You can log a question or complaint on the website, but no one will respond... read more
