Well that was terrible. Thai food for people who don't like Thai food. The duck curry was cloyingly sweet - I had the taste of sugar coating my mouth an hour later. Terribly overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. And the service was inattentive - they asked us what we wanted to order as soon as we sat down and later we had to ask a second server for water because the first wandered off to chat with friends. We ordered take away from Busaba and were very disappointed. We will not be returning. We opted for the classic pad Thai and the Mussaman duck. The pad Thai was described to have "King prawns" which actually equated to only 4 very small shrimp and overall a very small serving in general. The duck curry was much better, however I found the duck to be very dry. read more

I really thought I was going to love Busaba Eathai - I wanted to love it. 2 mins from home I was hoping for a regular lunch spot. As the reviews all state - great decor, friendly staff, nice ambience and yes the food is tasty. The portions just felt a bit mean - especially the drinks. There I have said it. Maybe I am just greedy but I was left feeling that it wasn't quite enough. And for the money we paid it should have been. Perhaps I didn't order well and should give it another go...maybe. There is a lot of competition for lunch in Shoreditch - better than yelo round the corner but not much. Did someone say unlimited Prosecco!? Yes please! You dont have to tell me twice so we visited Busaba Eathai for their Saturday bottemless lunch deal. We were seated on the heated outdoor terrace, decor both inside and out is well designed and carry's the thai feeling/design throughout. Beautiful exposed wood tables. Our service was quick - we had ordered both starters and mains and had out glasses filled with the good stuff within 5 minutes. My only gripe would be all our dishes arrived at the same time - with a table for 2 4 dishes made for tricky logistics! That said everything that was crammed onto our table was delicious. Highlights of Goong Tohd (crispy prawns), Thai Calamari was soft and cooked to perfection with just the right tingle of chilli. Main event of a crispy chicken roti was also pleasant (though we are on the 3rd glass of bubbles by now so my memory is a little 'fizzy!) Once we have scraped our plates cleaned we were not shooed off - infact the opposite. We were allowed to sit, chat and have out glasses topped up until the end of our 2 hour sitting. We had Ginger beef, Garlic pepper ostrich, Thai calamari, Chinese broccoli. It was fantastic. All of the dishes had their own distinct flavours and were cooked to perfection and also felt quite unique. They had a very interesting beer, Beerlao. The price is very reasonable and comparable to the Brick Lane curry houses but the food here is better quality and much more interesting. The atmosphere was great, being not too crowded and we didn't feel pressured to order quickly or rushed to get us out. A great find. read more

I've only had takeaway from here so cannot comment on the atmosphere etc. As for the food, it's fine but I don't think it's Thai. My favorite Thai dish, tom kha gai, was warm and coconutty but not spicy at all and overly greasy. One of my favorite things about Thai food is all of the flavor without the feeling of being weighed down, and this was the opposite of that. I also had a green papaya salad, another one of my favorites, but again this lacked flavor. If you are looking for kind of watered down Thai adjusted for a western palate, I'd go here, but not for anything close to authentic. (I'm not Thai but lived in Southeast Asia for a couple of years and have been to Thailand a few times, so not an expert by any means but have had some Thai meals that were stupid delicious.) read more

I've been here twice while visiting London on business. The last time I was there, I was seated at a table with 9 of my favorite strangers. Talk about awkward. My starter never came out and and when my main dish came out and I asked about my starter, the waiter gave me some lame excuse suggesting that he was not going to follow up with it. I could barely hear him over the noise level. The acoustics in the room just don't seem ideal for a restaurant. When I asked for the check, I was charged for 4 of the strangers on the table. My starter never showed up. After adjusting the bill 4 times, I left there in a huff swearing to never return. I'll be going to the one in Shoreditch going forward. Oh, the food was delicious as usual though. But the awkwardness and poor service did not make up for it. read more

I judge all thai restaurants on the curry... and the curry here was GREAT. however, the SERVICE?! Came here for the first time and it was quite nice.. but the 2nd time (on a friday night) - NOT nice. Was with a group of 5 and the server decided upon himself to keep the change. We actually had to ask for the change?! plus.. the red wine was sour however, in good conversation and dining, I did not notice until the glass was 1/2 empty so I didn't complain. Upon first visit to any Thai place, I go with the Pad Thai - if you impress with that dish, it's mostly a good sign that everything else will be great. Needless to say, the Sen Chan Pad Thai impressed me - shrimp ("prawn" for you English folks) and crab meat (didn't seem like imitation crab) were cooked nicely and blended well with everything else in the dish. Service was OK, nothing impressive. Will go back soon to try something different. read more

Very chilled place, cool, relaxed vibe as soon as you enter the restaurant due to the incense burning. Currently celebrating 15 years so there's a special menu out featuring dishes from different regions of Thailand. I always love the fried rice there - go for the crab or the prawn chilli options. From other reviews I was expecting something akin to Wagamama's (ie quick and canteenish), but instead found myself rather impressed by Busaba. Reasonably priced dishes, great presentation, nice vibe, and EVERYTHING was delish. They only lose a star because the sweet potato in my stir fry was a little undercooked (I know - I'm strict), but I love love loved my meal all the same. The table-sharing situation didn't feel intrusive, and the service was good, even when it got busy. Also really nice to see a place be generous with the cashew nuts in the cashew dishes as well. This place was recommended to us by our hotel concierge and although we were at first a bit surprised with all the shared tables concept - have to admit that it was great evening and staff could not do more to make as feel welcomed. When we arrived we were offered space at one of the sharing tables but as manager noticed that my wife was a little bit surprised with this concept - he very quickly he came back to us offering space at the window. I guess he realized we were not familiar with the arrangments hence very politely he asked us if we ever dined with them before and told us a bit about Busaba and explained which dishes were the most popular and recommended us their sort of set deal for £18.90. Recommended food was delicious - I can especially vouch for the beef curry - it was simply outstanding. Actually, it was such a buzzy and vibrant atmosphere that we spent over there more than 2 hours (2nd bottle of wine helped us to stay there longer to what we planned). According to what my friend said, this Busaba Eathai is better than all others in London. Food taste good and its less oily. There isnt alot of people around lunch time so really quiet. Good for one person as well because they have really nice window seats. read more

After being a regular at the Busaba Eathai off Tottenham Court Rd., I was excited to take my friends to the branch in Hoxton, the start of a night out. The decor is great- perhaps a bit OTT with the incense. Knowing how great the food is at the Tottenham CRT rd. branch, I thought I knew what I was letting myself in for. My friends and I were all starving and very excited- however, we were all very disappointed with the meals we received. Firstly, the service wasn't great- we were in a group of four, however two of us had arrived slightly early. As we weren't a whole group, the waiter was sceptical to seat us which I found to be quite unusual. When the food arrived the waitress had forgotten my meal entirely- strange that she hadn't questioned the fact that one of the customers had nothing in front of them. The food itself was really bad- To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what everyone ordered, but all of us ordered something different- and no one enjoyed what they got. I was totally embarrassed having suggested the place. I even ordered the side broccoli dish, which is a favourite amongst my family, however, at the Hoxton branch, this side-dish was nothing special at all. The sauce tasted like watered down vinegar. It felt as though none of the meals had been tried by the kitchen staff, I couldn't understand how they could get away with such bad food, and how, even with the same menu between the two different branches the food could be so different. I love Busaba and was really excited to go here recently. The problem with this Old St branch is the waiters don't seem to communicate with each other and they brought us two glasses of wine instead of 1 wine, 1 lemonade and a water.. We would have gladly taken the wine for free though ;) When ordering I was told the ginger and peppercorn calamari was coming without the peppercorns. Is that not the half the essence of the dish?! Curious, I ordered it anyway as I love Busaba thai calamari. It was really bland, and I shouldn't have ordered it (my mistake). We had to ask 3 waiters to bring us the bill at the end of the meal and another couple to bring us some water throughout. I'll still eat at Busaba, it would be nice if the staff were a bit more organised though. read more

My boyfriend brought me here and I really liked it up until the food. You all sit fairly close together but not to the point that I ended up going home with the wrong person or that I got to hear every intimate detail of their conversation which is fine however I was expecting more from the food. My squid starter was overcooked and slightly cold by the time it arrived. I'm a big pad thai fan so was hoping this would be an improvement only it wasn't. It lacked taste and was rather on the small side. Even though the place is massive the lighting and wooden tables give a delicate intimacy. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. The ambience is so lovely, perfect lighting & friendly and efficient staff. I've been quite a few times now, i find that its best to go with a few friends so that you can take up a whole table yourselves, that way you don't have to share with strangers. But to be honest, i'm not too bothered by that at all and the times i've been with just one other i've thoroughly enjoyed. The food.. my god the food..My personal favourites have to be the 'Black pepper beef' & 'Red lamb curry'. The rice is cooked perfectly and i cant forget to mention the 'Ginger & honey tea' which I ordered randomly once and now cant live without haha. ..& The toilets are awesome.. and clean!!!! Definitely give this place a go! it's always much quieter in the weekday daytimes so if its just a couple of you i recommend checking it out then! read more

The food here is amazing! There's usually a queue to be seated, but that's because it's so popular and the queue moves fast. I'm not so keen on the smell, it's a bit "wet dog", but my friend didn't seem to notice. I ordered here through Deliveroo. They didn't bring the drink I ordered. I also got food poisoning from the food here. I was up all night with a high fever, chills, diarrhea and felt like I was going to throw up all night. The food tasted off and I shouldn't have kept eating. I've never had food poisoning in my life. I like it here, it's a bit like Wagamamas except better ambiance and the food is a bit 'deeper' flavour-wise. I had coconut rice and some beef/ginger/peanut dish which was great. Be warned though- there are small hidden chillies that if you bite into you will probably die. It's a little overpriced, but the quality is high. read more

I was ecstatic when the latest branch of Busaba Eathai opened in Old St last month. Shoreditch usually grits its teeth at chains opening in an area which is largely populated by indies however it seems by the creative launch I attended the day before it's official opening, that this one is welcomed with opening arms. There is something quite cult like about Busaba and its clean fresh wooden interior. They did a very good job of gutting out what used to be Shish (no kebab smells apparent) and the food is fab as per usual. There are (to my knowledge) no other competitors of this standard. Yelo in the square is still a favourite for quick bites. Miso (in my opinion) is awful. Busaba is definitely one for the lunchtime treats - even casual business lunches. I have now visited every branch of Busaba - Bird St being my previous favourite. This one is 30 seconds away from where I work - happy :) read more

Probably one of the worst experiences i have had at their chain. I am a frequent visitor of the U.K. and i usually always go there because i know their food will be tasteful. I went last weekend, some folks came in after me and they were served before me. I was looked at several times and walked by, then finally someone came to me asking me if i was ready to order, my response was "Yes, i have been waiting"... the manager came over, i told him that i was sitting for a while before anyone even addressed me, and no apology followed. I think the principle is that, you acknowledge when a customer is feeling as though something was done incorrectly or if they feel overlooked, especially when done INTENTIONALLY. They should consider removing ALL their staff and getting qualified customer service oriented servers and managers, or shutting the restaurant down and doing a full week training. I will NEVER be back to this location. I had to even send my food back because the quality even looked and tasted poorly - maybe the chef was upset.... I asked for the bill and went to the other location in SoHo. I suggest that you do NOT visit this location, and go to SoHo or one of the other locations. You will be better off :). read more
