There are so many self-defense schools out there and finding a good one is largely a matter of luck. We first met Grand Master Kirby four years ago when we stumbled into the Tae Kwon Do class that he teaches at the JCC. My son felt that my seven year old granddaughter needed to learn to defend herself and she needed to learn self-discipline. Sophia took to TKD like a duck takes to water! Master Kirby has a gift for teaching: he demands that his students respect him and work hard, but he cares about them and the kids know it. Almost five years later, Sophia is a second degree black belt and she has completed Master Kirby's air-gun, basic pistol, and use of force classes. Sophia can defend herself. She knows how to treat people with respect and she knows when she should switch from respect to defense mode. Because we chose to add gun training, she also knows how to handle a gun safely. Our whole family has attended Grand Master Kirby's NRA classes, we all know how to handle guns safely and now we all belong to a gun range. We live in the country where police response might be a bit slower than we'd like, but thanks to Grand Master Kirby, I'm pretty sure that we can take care of ourselves. Every month or so, Grand Master Kirby turns to the parents (and grandparents) and asks them why they are sitting there instead of learning beside their children. During Sophia's third year I finally realized that I was always complaining about not having time to go to the health club - but I was faithfully driving Sophia to Tae Kwon Do three times a week. Once again,Grand Master Kirby was right - I am now a blue belt AND I AM NO LONGER TAKING BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE. For a chubby granny who had a stroke ten years ago, this is amazing. My grandchildren are not growing up in the world that I grew up in. I believe that in today's world, children need to understand self-defense. If you want your children to learn to be safe, or if you want to learn to become safe - Penn Academies is the best choice because of the wide range of training that they offer and the depth of the instructors' expertise.

In one year (her first grade year) my daughter went from loving reading to loathing it. The state-published ratings and reviews on greatschools.com don't lie. This is a low-rated, struggling school. If you have an option, choose another school for your kids...and perhaps another district altogether.

Renegade Motorcycle Training, LLC…read more A hidden nugget -- I highly recommend Although I have been riding motorcycles for close to 20yrs, for the last two yrs, due to medical issues, I could not ride and my HD Ultra has been sitting in the garage. Riding on a highway is not a problem, but my slow maneuvering was horrible. Now that I am getting stronger I wanted to begin riding again. While looking for training that would assist and start me in the right direction I came across Renegade Motorcycle Training, LLC. The school was only 4 hrs away from me in York, PA. I contacted the school and I had the privilege of meeting instructor/owner Mark. After a brief chat I scheduled the dates of my training. The days came and I did 14hrs of training and I have to say I have acquired really great respect for this man. I thought I was prepared when I went to the training location in York, PA. only to find my motorcycle's rear tire went flat and the security system I forgot to put in transport mode killed the battery. Mark was prepared to help and was able to fill the rear tire and charge the battery. He also noticed that my air shocks were low and he showed me how to check and fill them with a simple tool he had. I thought I knew how to ride, but I needed to sharpen my slow riding skills, making u-turns, stopping, turning and starting. I saw Mark demonstrate the handling of the large Road King he has and then did the same on my HD Ultra. Of course now I can't blame my Harley for not doing 17ft u-turns or weaving from obstacles within 8ft of each other. LOL , this might sound petty to some, but if you want to stop duck walking your motorcycle around and when making u-turns, One must learn these skills. Until you have these skills you don't really "know" how to ride. I could say so many good things about Renegade Motorcycle Training, LLC, the training was challenging and yet Mark used his teaching skills to adapt the course and help me on my present level. Now I'm on the path with renewed courage to raise my level of riding skill. I will just sum it all up by saying I found this school to be top notch and within my reach to go to. Mark is an awesome human being with great skills to be highly respected. His teaching and instruction methods are so simple to understand and his patience outshines any instructors I have met. This was for me the experience of a lifetime. I believe I have gained a friend as well as the instructor I will seek out for all my future training. Thank you Mark for having this school.
