The Bush's Visitor Center is absolutely worth the stop...it's adorable, informative, and full of little surprises. The center has a small but thoughtfully curated museum, a cute gift shop, and a café that sits right across from the actual Bush's manufacturing plant and the original family home, which makes the whole experience feel even more authentic. The museum is surprisingly impressive: engaging videos, interactive displays, a kids' area, and tons of history about how the Bush family built the brand, the products they've created over the decades, and of course... plenty of Duke the Dog nostalgia. Parking is easy, there's a pressed penny machine for collectors, and you can even find specialty canned bean varieties you won't see in regular stores. Very nice well done museum of the history of Bush Beans and the entire family. The museum is laid out well with plenty of information to answer any questions about the beans. The flow from beginning to modern day creations is easy to follow with several videos looping along the way. There's plenty of photo ops and a very nice gift shop with not only Bush Bean souvenirs and food but a lot of kitchen decor and gadgets. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, ready to answer any additional questions you may be able to think up! We stayed about 45 minutes as we were just passing through but if you had more time, it could take a bit longer to watch all the videos and read the history. Bush's Baked Beans are an American staple of the pantry with their canned bean selections (and one that I grew up seeing on the shelves of our own cupboards) During a recent visit to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area we took a little detour to visit the place where Bush's story began. At this quant visitor center you'll find a museum as well as an adjoining cafe on the site of the original general store where the family got its start in the community (within sights of the original family home that is still on the grounds and open to the public in Decembers). Plan to spend at least 1-2 hours making your way through the free and very in-depth museum and the staff on hand were friendly and happy to answer any questions they could. This place is really neat. It was the perfect pitstop for us to stretch our legs. The museum is child friendly which was great because my child wanted to run immediately. They recently added a partnership with Bluey and even had Bluey Baked Beans for sale in their gift shop! It was interesting to learn about how the company came about and even more interesting to see the wide variety of beans available. I definitely recommend this as a pitstop for parents who need to get out. Although we didn't utilize it, they also have a cafe attached. A must do if in the area!! The museum is really interesting and easy to get through. It has been updated since my last visit about two years ago. **April 2025: Weekday Afternoon Visit** If you have a car and are in the Dollywood area this is a fun spot to include on your vacation. The area is located in a more rural part of Tennessee, but I loved the mini museum and gift shop. The museum had lots of props and plaques describing the start of this business and the lifestyle of beans. It was very educational, but not stuffy and boring. I learned a lot about the canned business and had a kick out of the "weigh yourself in beans" scale. Whether you're bringing the family or are a kid at heart I think this visitor center is worth a spot especially if you enjoy Bush's Beans! We stopped here with a large group from our church. I was the bus driver. We had about 40 people in our group. This was a fun and informative place to visit! We love Bushs Baked Beans and often wondered what the process was. On a personal note; I worked for a major grocery store chain for 34 years in distribution as a manager before I retired so I was saw pallets and pallets of Bushs Baked Beans come through our warehouse. This place is absolutely freakin' adorable. It's like someone was given a marketing budget to make Bush's Beans relatable/viral for people, and they did a really good job with it. Not only is it free (bonus awesome!), but it's just really fun if you go in expecting a cute, kitschy adventure. If you want to go slowly and explore everything, expect to spend about 2 hours here. You can get the gist of the experience with about 45 minutes, though, if you skip over some reading and don't watch the videos. There are no bean smells or tastes in the musem itself. If someone in your party is very bean-averse, they can still come along with no issue. PROS: -It's free! There is no cost for admission. You can choose to go to the restaurant afterwards or buy anything within the general store. I highly recommend at least picking up a few cans of beans after you're done, though. Not only are they cheaper than the grocery store, but it helps this place stay free. -Really well-staffed. It would have been easy to run this place on bare bones staffing, but they don't. There are 4-5 people manning the general store and even staff members scattered throughout the museum itself. -Lots and lots of videos and audio. If you're someone who doesn't really like reading, you can watch all of their prerecorded videos. Each one of the short movies is on a timer, so you can sit around and wait for them to start. -Tons of cool photo opportunities. There are awesome dedicated selfie/photo spots in addition to really cool museum displays (a gigantic, room-sized bean!) that you'll probably want to take pictures of. Lots of great ways to take photos with your family/group that aren't the standard group photos. The staff always offered to take our group photos for us every time they saw us taking some. -The attached Bush's Restaurant was equally amazing and a great way to top off our adventure, but as it's technically a separate business, I'm leaving that out of this review. CONS: -Literally nothing. It's free, it's fun, it's memorable, and it will end up being a highlight of our trip here. Love that this exists. read more

First, the video regarding the history of the Bush Brothers and Company and the process of producing the final canned product is captioned! Yes, that's right, it includes closed captioning. You'd be surprised at the number of museums, factories, etc., that don't include them or are not on for the guests. The majority of the time, we're omitted, and with the deaf and hard-of-hearing population in the United States being at 1.8 million people, that's a shame. So, thank you, Bush Brothers and Company. Next, there are other areas of interest, like family photos and a history of collaboration with other companies, but the other attraction is their general store. In it, you'll find plenty of canned beans, several that we've never seen at our local grocery store, like Simmerin Caribbean Black Beans, Southwest Zest Pinto Beans, Organic Soups, and many more. What a cool place to visit!! It's a quick stroll through the museum that leads you into the gift shop. You can watch a video of the plant also while visiting! Loved the picture ops available in the front. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with such friendly staff. They even offered to take our group picture in front of the Bush's sign. Saw a few items on the final wall that showed the aisle of all Bush's offerings that we've never seen in stores before! They just released their zero sugar baked beans this past January. Found that they have dips and chili too!? But don't panic, you can purchase these in the gift shop and they are reasonably priced at a little over a dollar. We stocked up on a few :) and the staff member said that if you don't see the items in your store that you can ask your store or you can call the number on the can to ask that they bring to your area. read more

This was a random stop for lunch while passing through. The cafe is good lunch stop. The museum has the history of the family's start into the business of canning then into beans. So interesting. My biggest surprise was that there are only 3 things going into their can of beans. A piece of raw bacon, then the blanched beans and lastly sauce. The can is sealed and turned to mix ingredients. All of their beans are then cooked in the can. The family home is on site with a huge manufacturing plant, museum, gift shop and cafe. Nice place to visit with very interesting and friendly staff. Nice way to kill a couple of hours out in the beautiful, verdant countryside near Townsend, Tennessee. You don't get to go inside the huge cannery (kinda bizarre being out here "in the sticks"), but in the visitor center, there are exhibits and videos showing the history of Bush's from its humble beginnings as a general store, thru the large canning and distribution enterprise it is today. There's also a store selling a large selection of Bush's wonderful beans (all sorts of canned beans), hominy, peas and lots of souvenirs, etc. They have a restaurant too, but I haven't eaten there yet. read more

I got to learn about beans and buy a new can of beans I haven't seen in stores before! So many flavors of beans! And some fun bean merch. Driving along the 411, had no idea that the Bush's Bean Visitor Center is here, so my husband and I decided to stop by. Admission is free here and there is plenty of free parking. When we came in, we were greeted by two friendly employees and told us that the video is going to be starting in the next 5 or 6 minutes. The video (maybe about 15- 20 minutes) is a brief introduction on the Bush's family and the canning production. I have learned a lot about the canning industry from school, so I had already known how the process works and recognized a lot of the general processes that was used and shown in the video. But I did like that the video did provide some insight to their products specifically. An example was that it was mentioned that those they had surveyed, an overwhelming amount of people like to have the baked beans made with bacon but they don't actually eat the piece of bacon that is at the bottom of can (of Bush's Bake Bean products). It would have been great to see the actual process instead of a video, but I still enjoyed the video, nonetheless. After the video, there are numerous of plaques and storyboards you can read to learn more about the Bush family, how they all got started in the canning industry and more about the family and the roles they play working at this company. I think if you watch the video and read everything, visit the gift shop afterwards, then you could probably be here for an hour or a little more. We were told by a few employees that Duke the dog had come by a few months before our visit and all the people were so excited to have their picture taken with him (I would have been one of those fans to try to get a photo with him). We were told he was a very friendly and well-behaved dog. Maybe you will get lucky and Duke may be there on your visit. I think stopping at this visitor center is worth a visit, especially if you are a fan of Bush's Beans or if you are just curious to check out the place. They also have clean restrooms in case you really need to use them. read more

The visitor's center has a 10 minute very informative movie about the history of the Bush family and the employees who helped make them a great company. Arrived 1 st visit. Free parking, level parking lot. Handicap accessible access. Met at entrance by a young lady who wanted to seat us at the Sunday Bar? We advised her we would wait on a table. We went to the clean Rest rooms which were Handicap accessible. On return to front we were seated right a way. We were seated at a comfortable table and chairs. The waitress took are drink orders and returned quickly. She explained the limited menu which was well planned out and offered a good variety for everyone's tastes. I opted for the Bacon Cheese burger and Bush Baked beans. The food was served hot and to order with correct toppings and a bonus Pickle spear. My wife enjoyed the Ruben sandwich and fries. She advised she has had better sandwiches but it was ok. She enjoyed the fry's and sweet tea. The waitress kept are drinks full. The manager checked on us often and cleared table as we finished. Driving up I was surprised at how huge the Bush's Baked Beans Manufacturing Plant was and how many trucks they had. The museum/visitor center is right next to the Diner so Im not sure why it has a different address. That just seems silly. The employees were friendly. I guess I was expecting something more of a tour such as seeing how its done like they do at Tillamook. You can easily walk through in 5-10 minutes unless you want to read a bunch of stuff. I love seeing how things we use in everyday life are made. The only downside of this tour/museum is that you don't get to go in the plant for the tour. This is really informative and there is a video tour in the theater room. There is a store where you can buy different merchandise and cans of beans, some of which you may not know they make! Hands down, I recommend! I've driven by here a dozen times since it's between my home and the Pigeon Forge area, but this was our first time stopping. It was wonderful. This was such a fun place to visit. The day we went Duke wasn't there but it still a great place to visit and lots of fun for all ages. If you haven't been, I highly recommend you go. I love that they sell the small cans of beans in the gift shop. It is hard to find the small cans in stores and here you can try different flavors in small sizes. And Whoops, I may have bought a Duke puppy! Lol It is free admission and even so it is one of the most fun factory tours I have been on, lots to see and lots to do. Highly recommend! We were heading back to Asheville from Dollywood and our route took us past the Bush's Beans Visitor Center. I've had my share of beans in my life, and since we were playing tourist anyway we decided to stop and check it out. I had no idea Bush's main production facilities were here. I saw the factories and such from a distance, but we stayed in the visitor center where they had a free museum, gift shop, and cafe. We weren't that hungry, so we decided to explore the museum a bit. It was actually really nice - they showcased the history of the Bush family, their history in the canned food industry, and had a plethora of information. This is also a good spot for kids since a lot of the exhibits are interactive. At the end of the tour, you're able to get a picture with Jay and Duke superimposed on it; I thought that was a nice touch, especially since it was free of charge. As with any tourist spot, there's a gift shop which had a nice selection. Finally, I need to give it up to the staff - they were all super friendly and answered any questions that we had. Overall, this was a fun detour on our way back to Asheville and definitely worth a quick stop. read more
