The cleaner Brian showed up on time and went right to work. He cleaned it and got all the white yuck off the glass. He even did something to make that stuff not collect like that! Four weeks since they cleaned and smoke billowing into the house. Called and left message to which no response but finally reached them. Short story: the man was very rude and dismissive ...you burn stuff like paper and pine (no I do not - just burn cedar and madrone) and the chimney cap gets clogged...that's your problem". Asked him why after only 4 weeks when I've never had a problem before. " I get these calls all the time, sometimes even after one week (says a lot about the job they do)....Then he hung up on me. Last year $140. This year $200 for about 20-25 minutes of work. I find that anyone who cares about their business and has any integrity, actually looks at these reviews and responds. Note that this guy does not. Ironically, was considering getting a quote from these folks to paint my home - that's now out! Maybe he's overcome by holiday stress? Either way, being rude and blaming the customer is not a good way of doing business. Good thing about capitalism is that there is always somebody else other than this jerk.

Lindsey, who scheduled the appointment, was professional and explained that they serve one area on specific days, which is why it took weeks to get on the schedule. I made a mistake when I received a reminder text stating that no fire should be burning within a 24-hour window. I immediately called the morning of service to inform them that a fire had been going the night before, since their policy indicates that would prevent service. Despite my attempt to reschedule, I was told it was okay, that they would come later in the day, and that it would be fine. Instead, Rodney came while nobody was home, refused to service the fireplace, and left it partially disassembled. Lindsey later called to reschedule and did not mention any fee. Two days later, we received a surprise invoice for $150. At no point during scheduling or phone calls was this fee mentioned. It was only after I questioned the invoice that I was told it was in the fine print. I had been upfront and gave them the opportunity to reschedule, but they chose to come anyway and then charge me afterward. I paid the fee, but the experience felt untrustworthy--especially because Rodney claimed the fire vents were not opened as instructed. Because we were out of town, I believe he assumed he could say that without question. However, I had video evidence showing that I paid someone to follow his instructions exactly and open the vents. When I confronted him with this, he became defensive and said it didn't matter and that I would have to pay regardless. I offered an opportunity to resolve this privately, but the trust was broken, and it became clear they felt empowered by the scarcity of chimney sweepers in this area. Fortunately, I found another chimney sweeper and was able to create a safe environment without any hassle. I wouldn't recommend this company unless you truly have no other option.

He set up an appointment and gave me a brief rundown of what to expect. I received a reminder call the day before the appointment as well as another when the serviceman was on his way. I received impeccable service. The gentlemen that showed up were very cordial and left the fireplace and its surroundings spotless. You'd never know they were there except for the fact that my family room fireplace now works like new and the logs that were originally improperly placed are now placed correctly. The price of the valve was very fair and the service visit overall was very reasonably priced. This speaks volumes to the honesty and integrity of this local business. The entire experience was exceptional and I am now a raving fan of Smokey's.
