Excellent dinner! The seafood pie is outstanding. We're staying here tonight (unfortunately one night) as we drive around the southern coast, cramming as much Ireland into our vacation. Fantastic hotel, wonderful room! Highly recommend! read more

Klondyke House

Yet another lovely stay at Klondyke House. The location is perfect along the Ring of Kerry, near…read morethe sea, surrounded by mountains and rolling green Irish countryside. This is a magical place to visit, truly enchanting. The hosts always take care of us well. They know everything about the area, having spent most of their lives in Waterville, and Cahersiveen (larger town just down the road). The Waterville Golf Links - a world class golf course - is located within minutes by car. Excellent seafood restaurants are nearby, either by car or on foot. The Waterville Craft Market is located right next door. Also nearby, the Tech Amergin Arts Centre offers all sorts of interesting classes, workshops, art exhibits, as well as amusing Irish film nights we enjoyed viewing during our stay. Lastly, behind the B&B, they have a lovely modern vacation rental property that is available to rent by the week. Having stayed in the B&B, and the vacation rental, I highly recommend both. My only complaint: I can't stay here long enough!

I always…read morefigured that they don't offer the facilities and comfort of a hotel, and the whole "staying in someone's home" vibe was something of a turn off. Klondyke house completely changed my perceptions of this. Our room was of the standard of many hotels I've stayed in, very modern and clean. It also had a lovely bathroom (which appeared to be brand new, or else very well maintained), with a very nice, powerful shower (I like a good shower). Everything you'd expect in a hotel -- kit for making tea and coffee, hairdryer, good TV, free and fast Wifi -- it was all there. Noise does seem to travel between rooms in this house, but the other guests were very quiet. I would worry about the noise levels had there been any louder guests. The proprietors were nice and friendly, but not at all overbearing. They made polite conversation without annoying you (I'm not really a people person when on holiday, and am always wary of B&Bs because I'm worried of the hosts being up in your business). The breakfast is beautiful! A very good selection, and the soda bread is a highlight (bacon and salmon are also very good). I do prefer the buffet style of hotels, because I like to try a bit of everything when on holidays, but I appreciate this mightn't be feasible in a B&B. Maybe the hosts could encourage guests to order more than one thing from the breakfast menu? But that's a tiny gripe, the food and service were both wonderful. The property is a five minute walk into the heart of the village. There isn't a huge amount to do in Waterville itself, but it's at the centre of a beautiful part of Ireland, so there's a plenty of attractions in the vicinity. If staying for a week or so, a car would be handy for seeing the sights, but for a weekend, all you need is to make your way to the pubs for the great seafood. A highly enjoyable weekend, and the Klondyke B&B played a large part in that. I would recommend it to anyone.

I thought service was excellent, and the food in the restaurants was very good. They have a family room (king plus two twins) which was very reasonable and a great option for families. There's lots to do- a game room, tennis courts, walking trails, murder mystery, etc. We really enjoyed our stay, and it was the kid's favorite place in Ireland. Be aware though that the resort is historic, which some would perceive as dated. It's also off the beaten path, with most other dining options some drive away so plan on eating at the hotel a lot. My only other gripe would be that you have to make reservations for the pool, which is kind of a hassle.

We were really lucky to get a last minute booking at the Sea Lodge Hotel, newly reopened, in the heart of the small seaside town. After a long drive across country, we were greeted by friendly staff, comfortable beds and luxurious toiletries, all a short walk from the lake where the competition was taking place. In addition to comfortable surroundings, the food here was excellent, with the staff able to cater for our large group of hungry rowers at dinner time (most of whom weren't fortunate enough to stay in the hotel), as well as providing substantial breakfasts and great coffee and lunch. Even when we tried to eat elsewhere (to give other local places a chance), we kept ending up being drawn back again for more!

Also dinner is eatable but I recommend restaurants in the village. The hotel is clean but sometimes it lacks refinement, but nothing to worry about. I would go back in a heartbeat cause we really spent some nice 4 days there.
