The engine is now seized and will not start. I have been without a vehicle for almost 6 months now (157 days exactly). It has been sitting in the sun and weather at Toyota of Hattiesburg and is undriveable due to their negligence. This has affected my job, families means of transportation, as well as finances. I want my friends and family to know what has occurred so that the same thing does not happen to them. I will go into detail below. I was leaving for work October 14th, 2025 at around 7 in the morning. I was driving down the road when my engine began to knock. I pulled over behind Sunrise Trading Post and I saw a red warning light on my dash that said to pull over immediately. I stopped and got out. After looking beneath my truck, there was oil on the ground. I called a wrecker, and my Dad came to get me to bring me back to my house so I could drive my mom's car to work. After arriving at Toyota, the mechanics there took a look at it and stated it was missing the oil filter, and whoever had done it last did not tighten it good enough, leading to oil starvation. They also stated it was not on the vehicle and it was believed that it may have fell off going down the road when the wrecker was pulling it to Toyota in Hattiesburg. They stated that it would be at least $17,000 for a new engine. So I called Rainforest CarWash and Oil Change in Petal and let them know what happened. After 2 to 3 weeks of them beating around the bush, looking for the oil filter between my house and where my truck died and denying it, saying they had footage of the oil change, but never showing me, saying they tightened it and put the O-ring on correctly, they filed it on their insurance and put in a claim. I thought things were finally, after almost a month, starting to progress. After 2 weeks of dealing with their insurance, United Fire Group, they denied my claim as you can see below, stating that it could be due to an engine recall with debris in the engine, an oil tech noticing a "gas smell", the timing, and a screw missing from the skid plate, all of which anyone with half of a brain could understand does not cause a loose engine filter. The oil filter began to loosen due to them not tightening it enough. This has been the most frustrating vehicle experience I have ever had. I want all of my friends and family to be aware of Rainforest's poor business practice, and I hope you will share this so this doesn't happen to you. I will be getting my oil changed at the dealership from now on. Interesting things to note are the time when I had my oil filter changed in August (6:17 p.m. right before closing time at their facility) and the picture of my engine I took before the wrecker picked it up. I believe the white circled object is my oil filter that fell off. Don't ever let this company perform an oil change on your vehicle.
