We reserved 2 rooms, more than a month ago, to see a concert at the La Mar and the owner just called to cancel our reservation due to him getting a better offer. The concert is in 10 days. Only reason I'm putting half review is because of one bartender. I had my black brother with me and the bartender (Ashley) started saying racial slurs to him. I intervened and I turned into an all out war, food was great and service was alright, but the racist bartender put me over the edge. If your anybody of color I'd beware read more

Buzzard's Roost is my favorite hometown place to enjoy drinks, food and live music. Karen and Jay are so fun and friendly and they run a great establishment, love the mix of people. Its a nice place, but be careful with the bartender you get Jerry the owner is good but the bartender female with black hair is aggressive on tips just tonight she threatened to not surve me if I didn't tip. I left her 2 dollars i hope she learns threating patrons to tip isn't right. read more

went for my first time and had the worst service ever. First whoever the bartender was, she was extremely rude and treated us like she didn't want us to be there at all. got there before 9 and she tried to say the kitchen was already closed when they were clearly still taking orders from other customers. She then tried to shove us out of the door after we got our food and told us they closed at 10:30 when their hours online and the door said 2am. Worst place ever read more

My band played Lamar last night and called around to see what might be open and still serving food after the gig. They told us as long as we were eating and drinking, they'd stay open, which is pretty much what we look for in a bar. This place didn't disappoint. Cheap drinks, an unexpectedly cool section of craft beers, and some of the best food we've had on tour. We had calzones, pizza, wings and the meatball sub. All great. John the bartender (hanging out on his night off) even bought me a shot for my birthday. If I find myself in Lamar again, I'll definitely come back here. read more

Driving through to Kansas, stopped in Lamar for the night. Not much going on in town, to be sure. Ended up at the Buzzards Roost for a drink and couple games of pool. Not too many tables & chairs set up in the joint, the few that were there were occupied by locals. Seems strange to have so much unoccupied floor space since the interior is pretty huge. Another oddity were the restrooms. One room for each gender, no lock on the door even though inside, they appear to be a one-at-a-time set-up. Women's had a shower curtain that only partially went around the toilet ... weird. Walls to the rooms were thin plywood and a loud gent doing his business on the toilet was keeping the folks in the bar highly entertained with his noises. Grabbed a beer for the spouse and asked for a true margarita. Ended up showing the bartender how to make a real one: lime, Cointreau and tequila. Amazed a place like this had Cointreau ~~ been to plenty high-brow bars that don't! She was game for the education (gotta appreciate that) and seemed to enjoy the interaction. Drink wasn't bad, either! Drink prices were beyond reasonable (at least compared to where we live). Place wasn't that busy and we kept to ourselves playing pool. Quiet little dive bar in downtown Lamar. Went here on a Monday night with a friend of mine when we both happened to be in town for different reasons. We were the only ones there along with a group of 4 people celebrating a 40th birthday. Decent draft and bottle beer selection. I have been referred here by the the guys at my hotel as a place for good food. But, by the time I got there, the kitchen was already closed. Too bad. Maybe next time. read more

What a cool find in Lamar! I guess this place was recently renovated and it looks pretty cool. The bartender was really nice and I was kinda amazed how many good microbrews there were on tap! We had a pizza there that was actually pretty darn good too. I also like that they have some games... pool table, darts, juke box. And they are doing fundraisers for community causes! Awesome! Maybe Thursdays are their dead night (bars are like that). I didn't really see what was that great about it besides all the stuff on the wall. But all I wanted was a little bit of beer and I was satisfied. Didn't feel like asking if they served food bc of a previous review. I used to service the lower Arkansas Valley in my business for 12 of so years and have eaten in dang near every restaurant from Pueblo to SW Kansas but have been away for nine years. I worked on a job in Lamar recently and my client recommended we go to Buzzards for dinner. The place we went to was a real dive back when I was traveling in this area. Yes I wanted a beer but I was hungry! We ordered wings and pizza. The wings were very good but the pizza was heaven! Most bars throw a Tombstone or Totinos in the countertop pizza oven and hit you up for Pizza Hut prices. I am talking cardboard with sauce and cheese. The first pie was gone in no time. We had them double the first order and luckily there were a couple slices left over for breakfast! Excellent pizza, great wings, and cold beer! Who could go wrong AND the bar has been cleaned up quite nice. read more
