Between the technician not collecting appropriate funds, and the rude interaction with staff who did not contact me until 10 days later notifying me my glasses were still not yet ordered, treating me like a delinquent over the phone (after patronizing the practice for over 12 years), requiring me to make another run to their facility to fix the problem they caused - I decided this was all a red flag for me. I went elsewhere for my eyeglass purchase. Sad to see the office go downhill like that.

The other consultations provided options other than Lasik. I was told the outer layer of my eyes were not smooth and lasik would not be good option. They suggested a couple procedures that were newer and more expensive than Lasik. I was pretty disappointed about that. When I finally got to Arena Eye Surgeons (Dr. Kelley's office), his consulted told me that I actually was a candidate for Lasik. What the other doctors neglected to tell me was that wearing contact prevents oxygen from getting to your eye, and alters the shape. They advised two weeks, no contacts. Dr. Kelley advised four. After four weeks of glasses, my eyes apparently returned to their normal shape. The surgery itself was painless. You are awake, and your eyes are completely numbed. They say you can see instantly, but with all the goo in your eyes, you can only see things fuzzy. But over the next day after it starts clearing out, then you actually can see! It even gets better over the next week! Dr. Kelley always reminds me about the success of my surgery. Sometimes your vision is 20/20, sometimes a little less, but mine is now 20/15 (better than 20/20). Coming from a -8.5/-9.25 glasses prescription, this is amazing. The total cost was around $3,750.

Dr Kelley has a very extensive resume as well, and has been doing this procedure since 1996. Doc took plenty of time answering my questions and making me feel comfortable and explaining exactly what to expect. I asked why some of his competition offers a menu of different prices and he has one price? He was upfront and honest in saying that the procedure is the same, regardless of how good or bad your vision is. While it might not be the cheapest around at $2300/eye, I'd rather pay a bit more for a great doctor who is going to work on my eyes. He called me the evening of my procedure, just to make sure I was doing ok, and left his home phone #, just in case I had any questions or concerns. It's hard to find docs these days that will do that. My vision is great and I'm very happy with my experience with Doc Kelley.

It was all very anxiety inducing. I once stopped in to pick up contacts and they looked at me like they were visibly afraid and were mad at me that I came in without an appointment. They then wouldn't give me my contacts until they put my information in their computer so they could record I had been there. I have a lot of respect for the pandemic and was an ER nurse through the whole thing but this is just crazy.

It just means that he has a wealth of experience to draw on. I have diabetes, and my vision can vary with my blood sugar levels as well as my blood pressure levels. Dr. Schecter discussed how he would use his best judgment in writing the updated prescription, but to be aware that it might not be perfect on some days. Sticking with the same doctor is also valuable because the historical record of your vision can help flag issues that might be missed otherwise. I would Despite living across town, it is worth the drive for a very thorough eye exam and for the impressive covid-19 safety measures in place which include only one patient in the office at a time, mandatory mask wearing (although fully vaccinated patients are allowed to remove their mask to check the look and fit of eyeglass frames that are thoroughly cleaned afterward). Jason was very helpful in recommending frames and in pulling the ones that interested me, and he could safely remain behind a plexiglass screen after slipping a tray of my choices to me to try on. With my insurance, I have found the cost of the frames and lenses for my rather complicated prescription was comparable to ordering online from a reputable company, but I prefer to support a local business when I can while still limiting my exposure risk. I was impressed by the selection of frames given the relatively small office space. When I selected the ones I wanted, Dr. Schecter himself adjusted the nose and ear pieces for a perfect fit and did the necessary measurements for the progressive lenses. This is the same pair I will receive back once the lenses are manufactured and installed, so no additional office contact is necessary. They will notify me when they arrive, and I can schedule a curbside pickup. However, if you prefer to order your glasses or contacts online, Dr. Schecter is quite willing to provide a printed copy of your prescription and it's still well worth scheduling with him for a thorough eye exam in a safe environment.

Dr. Perry - Thank you!…read more I've had 3 eye doctors and a neuro ophthalmologist since I started wearing glasses when I was 11. For the past 17 years I've known I had a "blind spot" in my right eye caused by scar tissue, for the past 5 years I've know I have astigmatism in my right eye, and through all of that time my vision in my right eye has been blurry and hard to live with. I've told multiple eye doctors this only to be met with "everything looks fine." After 15 minutes of tests and reviewing scans, Dr. Perry diagnosed me with Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, which makes all of the issues I've had with my right eye finally make sense. And for the first time in 17 years I'm confident I'll be able to see more clearly. And soon. So, thank you for listening to my issues and hearing me. And thank you for not only diagnosing me, but coming with a myriad of solutions. I feel like even though I now know I have this disease, I'm going to be better than I have been in a long time. Went there because they sold a specific brand of frames I wanted. Told the Dr. from the beginning…read morethat I required Zeiss lenses. After putting 50% down and them sending the frames to their lab, they call me and tell me their lab doesn't work with Zeiss lenses (which they knew all along and didn't mention that). I tell them I want a refund then. They then tell me the Dr. wants me to buy the lenses I did not want and that they'd deal with it if I wasn't happy once I got the glasses. I refused, asked for refund, and asked for a copy of my insurance-paid exam results and new prescription to be faxed to me so that I could buy the frames and lenses somewhere else. As of this writing, I have not received my prescription and they state they are cutting me a check and mailing my refund to me. Totally unacceptable. Maybe they should work with a lab that allows them to give them what their customer wants as opposed to telling the customer what they think the customer should do. Buyer be ware going to this establishment.

Midwest Retina is on the 3rd Floor. I was considered a new patient, since I hadn't been seen since 2008. Registering/checking in was fast and easy. I was taken back for exam #1 right on time at 10:30. Exam #1 consisted of getting your blood pressure taken, verifying medical history, quick vision test, checking the pressure of your eyes, and application of 2 different eye drops-one to numb the eyes, the other to dilate the pupils. Then you wait in a darkened waiting room (smart idea since dilution eye drops make your eyes super sensitive). Exam #2 consisted of a lengthy examination of the internal and external condition of your eye balls by 2 different doctors. They each tell you what they saw & give you a plan for your eye health moving forward. Total office visit time was 1 hr 15 mins. Overall, I was very satisfied with Midwest Retina. Everyone was very professional and extremely thorough. Many of the staff I interacted with were very friendly and did their best to help alleviate the anxiety I have with eye appointments. I have an appointment scheduled for prophylactic laser surgery on one eye so I will update once that is complete.
