Dr. Perry - Thank you! I've had 3 eye doctors and a neuro ophthalmologist since I started wearing glasses when I was 11. For the past 17 years I've known I had a "blind spot" in my right eye caused by scar tissue, for the past 5 years I've know I have astigmatism in my right eye, and through all of that time my vision in my right eye has been blurry and hard to live with. I've told multiple eye doctors this only to be met with "everything looks fine." After 15 minutes of tests and reviewing scans, Dr. Perry diagnosed me with Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, which makes all of the issues I've had with my right eye finally make sense. And for the first time in 17 years I'm confident I'll be able to see more clearly. And soon. So, thank you for listening to my issues and hearing me. And thank you for not only diagnosing me, but coming with a myriad of solutions. I feel like even though I now know I have this disease, I'm going to be better than I have been in a long time. I needed new contacts really bad, and this was my second time finding an eye doctor in Columbus. Central Ohio Eye Care was covered by my insurance, Aetna, so I decided to give it a try. It was the day before Halloween, and the nurses were all dressed up in costumes, and I can't remember the name of the one who helped me, but she was dressed as a witch. So right off the bat, I knew that the staff seemed fun and friendly, and they really were. They were all talking and laughing and the atmosphere was casual and cool. I had to wait for a while, but not ridiculously long. When the doctor finally saw me, I really had to give him points for being so considerate. Last time I went to the eye doctor (a different one) they had to dilate my pupils and it lasted several days longer than they had told me. That was awful! The doctor, (Dr. Heidish, I believe his name was) listened, and assured me that the drops he was using would keep mine dilated for only about 5 hours - and he was right! I was really happy about that, and glad that he took the time to hear me out. He also gave me a very thorough vision test. The only trouble we ran into was that I didn't have my previous prescription information with me, so even though I told them where I last got my eyes checked, they still needed me to call home and find out the name and number of my doctor. It wasn't a huge deal, but it took a little longer that way. They hadn't told me to bring along my old contacts boxes and I guess I really should have, so if you plan to give this place a try and it's new to you, you should do so - it'll make things happen a lot smoother. My contacts were pretty expensive, but I think that's an issue of my insurance and the type I wear. Other than that, no complaints. The office was clean and neat, the parking lot out front had plenty of spaces, and they were quite accomodating. I was a new patient and I scheduled my appointment by phone and they got me in later that week, which I wasn't expecting. My doctor also upgraded my contacts to a more comfortable brand to let more air into my eye, and they are great. He really knows what he's doing and I would definitely recommend Central Ohio Eyecare to someone who needs to find a new eye doctor. read more

I was a patient at Central Ohio Eye Care for a long time. I was happy with the medical care I received there. In 2019 I bought prescription sunglasses there. My prescription is expensive but I wanted new sunglasses. I have had prescription sunglasses for years. The glasses I bought at Central Ohio Eye Care have lenses that peeling around all of the edges. I called yesterday, thinking there would be some reasonable solution. I was told I would have to buy new lenses. The only explanation was that I must have been leaving them in the car or not caring for them properly. I never leave them in the car and I am really careful with all of my glasses. I sure didn't think my expensive sunglasses would only last 3 years. I have sunglasses I bought at Costco 5 years ago that are still in perfect shape. read more

My first venture into eye care, whew! Being in the technological age, and having a job that requires being on the PC, I noticed I was getting headaches and blurred vision by the end of the night. My doc recommended I get my eyes checked. What?! I'm supposed to have 20/20 :) Searching Yelp Reviews and reccommendations from friends, I chose Central. Such a great choice! I was able to get in that next week, and do my paperwork online! Such a snap. The front desk is very friendly and will assist with any questions you have. It was only a few minutes and I was back with the optometrist. They did a comprehensive exam, that unfortunately for me and my wallet, required a prescription of some new bifocals. Another lady was very patient with me while assiting my glasses selection. I narrowed my frames from 20, to 8, to 4, to 2! I'm a very indecisive person, so thank goodness for her input! I would highly reccommend this place to everyone! They are friendly, knowledgable, and more than helpful in all aspects of eye care. My husband purchased glasses here 7 months ago. He needs the lens replaced due to no fault of his own. This place is very costly. He paid around $1300 for these classes our insurance covered it all but 300. I called three months ago to tell them he was having problems with the vision they said that there was a one year warranty. We got him into see a specialist who said the glasses needed to be redone and now the company says it's only a six month warranty on the Lenses. These glasses were so expensive that we are in a state of shock that this company will not replace the lenses. It's so sad when acompany is this greedy. I spoke with Laura the mngr. She would not budge. Don't go here for glasses. UPDATE: The owner won't do a thing. Evidently Mr Ziegler only cares for the almighty dollar. My next complaint goes to the BBB for Columbus. read more

I have been a patient here for at least 7+ years. They are good at what they do but they are not cheap. I shopped them and found they were much higher than anyone else I called. When I inquired as to why the person on the phone got quite indignant and started listing off how specialized they were and how they do a whole eye health exam not just an Rx. Upon my arrival their system treated me as a "new patient" because I had gone 1 year past my Rx expiration. I pointed out that this seemed odd and was informed that eyeglass Rx are only good for a year. This is not true at all by Ohio law (source: http://optometry.ohio.gov/prescription.stm ). They are good for two years. Once I saw Dr. David Zigler, I inquired about this change in their expiration. He stated that it had "always been that way". I told him I had plenty of old Rx at home for 2 years each from them that I could show him, that it is 2 years by Ohio law and that many federal guidelines (not laws) recommend 5 years. His reply was amazing: "Well yes it IS minimum 2 years in Ohio but if we wrote 5 years people would only come in every 5 years." For people with stable prescriptions this might be true but the deceptive choice to expire the Rx after 1 year for glasses felt very slimy. After my exam I got my Rx and the system had automatically expired it out at 1 year and they had hand altered the printout to give me the 2 years I am entitled to by Ohio law. Then they helpfully pointed out that they were doing a drawing for $100 gift cards for anyone who reviews them on yelp, facebook, google. So keep that in minde when you read the reviews that are short, glowing and pretty much empty. Those folks probably just did it for the drawing entry. The summary: Good, but expensive. Will try to trick you into coming back annually to increase their revenue. Don't fall for this. Entices reviewers to leave reviews by offering an exclusive drawing for those that do. read more

I was referred to Dr. Zigler over 30 years ago, and first went to his original little office in Clintonville. I have been going ever since, except for a period when I lived out of state. I have a very high prescription, and honestly, I just don't trust anyone else with my vision. He is an excellent Dr, he is knowledgeable about the latest technology and equipment, and he truly cares about his patients. It is a little more expensive to come here than to go to, say, Lenscrafters, but there is no comparison in the treatment. You really do get what you pay for. read more

This is my second experience with Dr. David Zigler. I went in for an annual eye exam and without warning they had a student observing my appointment. I understand the benefits of teaching but we are in the middle of a pandemic and I don't think it's appropriate to just assume your patient is okay with having an extra person in a very confined eye exam room. But they were nice and the appointment was fine. I went to the checkout counter and my eyes were a bit blurry as they had been dilated but I noticed they wrote me up for the wrong prescription. Close save! I order my contacts a year at a time so that would have been a big mistake. After questioning me if I was sure it was the wrong order, the lady went back and had the doctor fix it. Then she asks if I want the contacts shipped to my house, and I reply yes, after all, best not to come in twice if we are limiting our exposure due to COVID, right? Well they charged me $11 without telling me. Nominal, but annoying since they never said anything about an extra cost. I get my annual supply of contacts in the mail a few days later and it's the completely wrong type of contacts. What in the world? I double check my prescription and it's correct on the Rx. So I call and they say they are really sorry, I will need to bring in the box of contacts but they'll mail me the correct ones right away. I go and drop them off the next free day I get. Why not offer to refund the shipping fee? Especially after they are the wrong contacts and I've had to make a special trip back to the office? A few days later, I go to input my rebate for the yearly contacts (which is a big reason I decided to purchase such a large amount) and it seems that the rebate will be $100 less than what I was expecting. I call Dr. Zigler's office and ask what the discrepancy is about. They explain that they gave me the wrong information about the rebate, it should have been the "dark blue" sheet, not the "light blue" sheet. So now I am wondering if my rebate will be impacted since they didn't give me the right sheet. All in all, one of these small gaffs doesn't seem like that big of a deal. But literally, at every turn, there was such a lack of attention to detail. I realize I am only one patient out of many. But I get one eye exam a year and purchase one supply of contacts a year. This appointment sure feels like a big deal to me-- I spend nearly a grand on it. All in all, this office's lack of consideration, lack of attention to detail, and lacking communication really frustrates me. It shouldn't be this hard to get good quality care. read more

I've been going to Central Ohio Eye Care my entire life. Even way back in the day at their original location, which I have no idea where that was located as I was a kid. I've been seen and treated by all the doctors here over my lifetime of visits. This is the only eye doctor place I've experienced, so I cannot compare. I used to have 20/20 vision however smart choices like college (actually doing the reading and going to class) and other even smarter choices (like attending law school, ahhh even MORE reading and looking at screens, and then studying for the bar, ahhh nothing but looking at words for 2.5 months!) that all took their toll on my eyes. They have slowly but surely deteriorated over the past 7-8 years. I'm not blind as a bat but may be in 30 years I'll get there. I've had various reading glasses over the years, but when I went to the DMV last year to renew my license and I nearly FAILED the eye test (to be honest, I didn't put my head all the way against the machine because ick they're nasty and its the DMV!). The guy let me pass but put a restriction on my license to wear glasses/contacts. Thinking about how much wearing and remembering my eye glasses every time I went to drive, not to mention sunny days, I felt TRAPPED. Enter contacts. I started wearing contacts about a year ago and developed horrible red eyes this past May. I kept dropping $$$$$ on OTC eye drop products to no avail. They actually exacerbated the problem. It was really bad. Looked like I had been hanging with Cheech & Chong for weeks. And the redness would last for days after I took my contacts out. Well Dr. Travis solved my eye mystery and told me I was allergic to traditional contact solution. I now use this fancy contraption and hydrogen peroxide-based solution which worked wonders. This was my first time here. New insurance means new doctor and I will admit that Travis Zigler did not disappoint. He was very friendly, fast, and was able to answer all my questions. My issues, however, came when I was out in the lobby looking at glasses. The receptionists were gossiping like two teenagers about CUSTOMERS! It was very off-putting, especially since without customers, these ladies wouldn't have a paycheck. What bothered me even more was a nasty comment made about me while I was looking at glasses. Very unprofessional especially in a doctors office. I ended up only ordering a 3 month supply of contacts because I know I can get them cheaper online and the woman behind the desk was just pissing me off. read more
