I could not find the Old Fitz listed on the Liquor Boy website to order. The person who fielded my phone call waited until I'd asked how to order, then, in a very hostile manner barked "forty-nine, ninety-nine". I said I didn't understand the person's response. The person then uttered, "We aren't selling that bourbon for the price in the ad. It's $49.99, not the price in the ad. It was a misprint." I could easily understand that, as it was half of MSRP and probably protected by M.A.P. (federal minimum advertised price regulations) but the demeanor of Liquor Boy's employee was simply unconscionable. I've spent a significant sum in that store and do not expect to be treated with hostility. I said to the person, "I expect that walk-in customers looking for the Old Fitz special have expressed some displeasure." The response was, "They come in look for the display, can't find it, ask where it is, and when I tell them it was a misprint, they storm out the door, all day Thursday and today." I asked the clerk why a sign wasn't put up simply saying, "Sorry, the Old Fitz has been sold out." Your ad does say something like, quantities limited. "That's not up to me." The upshot is the criticism I've read about the rude behavior of Liquor Boy staff is unabated which indicates ownership isn't listening to customers.

That said, I don't feel like the selection is as good as other Liquor Barrels, and I don't feel like the staff's beer knowledge is quite as on point as other craft beer stores in the area. One of the things I really enjoy about visiting a good beer store is having high-level discussions with others who love beer. Didn't quite get that here. It's clean and bright but not always well-organized. It seems I often show up while the beer cooler is being organized. My purchase was just under $10.00. I gave the cashier a $10.00 bill. I held out my hand for my change and receipt but the cashier (Dick H.) put my change and receipt on the counter and not in my hand. I was taken aback and angered, but took my change and receipt and purchase and left. As an African-American man in his 50's and Dick H. who was my age if not older, we both fully understood what his actions were saying to me. This is still a tried and true slight that we are subjected to in certain establishments. I decided at the time not to make a fuss over a receipt and eleven cents change, but the goal was achieved, I was annoyed and it stayed on my mind all night and even until this morning. I should have said something right then and there, or at the least just canceled the purchase and left. I hate the thought that in this day and age and in this country there are people around me who resent that I have the freedom to go out and interact as an equal to them in everyday society. I decided this morning to write about this. As I went into the site to do this I see that this store has a long history of poor customer service reviews. I have not encountered this issue at this store before, I don't go there often despite it being closer to me. I don't want to say I'll never go there again, but I do know that if I receive this treatment again there or anywhere, I will cancel the purchase and no longer use that business.
