I've rented skiing equipment from BYUOU many times and have always had fast and friendly service. I sometimes have a hard time getting hold of them over the phone, but in person I've never had to wait in much of a line. I can't say enough good things about this business. On a long trip to tour bicycle trails throughout the western US and Canada, the pedal crank threads stripped which made my bike unrideable. Facing the prospect of terminating our trip early, we stopped at this bike shop on a late afternoon for an emergency repair to get it rethreaded. We only had a limited amount of time due to an overnight reservation 200 miles away. The friendly staff and talented mechanic fixed my bike right away within an hour, as well as fixed my derailleur, all for a reasonable price. There is no where on earth you can get all the gear for a rental for $20. It was easy, fast and the equipment was good. Closing at 6 is the only downfall so if you go anywhere other than Sundance it's hard to get back in time. read more

Outdoors Unlimited is a BYU-owned outdoors goods retail and rental store. I've only gone there for rentals so I can only speak to that. First, the interior is very nice and well-kept. There are two sides of the store--one for retail and one for rental. The two things I rent here are ski/snowboard equipment and tandem bicycles. For ski/snowboard equipment, I think this place is tough to beat. The equipment is not only always very new and well-maintained, but it also comes at a great price (about $20/day) I do night skiing and snowboarding every now and again and Sundance so I'm glad that I can get cheap rentals somewhere convenient and cheap in town rather than getting gouged at the resort. The tandem bike rentals are also awesome. It's a great date, and it's $25 for the day. The Provo River Trail is one block away which is beautiful and leads right up Provo Canyon past Bridal Veil Falls if you're looking for a longer, but more scenic ride. The one thing I don't love is that, because the store almost exclusively employs college students, it leads to high turnover. High turnover for me ends up meaning that oftentimes the employees aren't familiar with prices. I've had to almost with people there two or three times on prices I knew, but they insisted were more. I don't think it's bad customer service on their part, but it is a little annoying. Overall, I think this place is great! read more

Terrible customer service these guys don't know what they're doing. They set up my stance wrong and my binding snapped about 30 mins into a beautiful powder day at Brighton. Very sad and very frustrating. The outdoor center is a waste of time and waste of money! Go somewhere they know what they're doing without the cheap ass gear. read more

Came from out of state and called ahead based on a recommendation from a friend. I needed a MTB for a couple of days of downhilling Utah's amazing mountains. I made a reservation online and it was simple and efficient. Upon arriving for pickup, the staff greeted me right away and confirmed my reservation. My bike was ready with a checklist attached of services performed on the bike. Even if it's just for peace of mind...it worked. I felt confident in the bike I was renting. I got a hard tail MTB and they gave me a quick rundown and even offered me a helmet (free of charge). They really have everything you need. Lovely service and got me more excited to head out to the trails. After some gnarly rides, I headed back to return my bike, it was much busier then (weekend), which is expected; but still very good service despite how young every worker looked. The crowd was being handled in a smooth manner. You aren't supposed to return the bike too dirty, but they offered their hose in the front to give the bike a quick spray down. Checkout was quick once I was attended to, and the price was incredible (borderline cheap). Extremely reasonable pricing on all of their gear. 100% will be back here to rent all my outdoor gear when i come back to UT. Professional service and all of the gear was neat and tidy despite crowds of people. Great experience while on vacation! read more

I recently visited a friend in Utah and she suggested we go here to rent my kayak. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. When I took out the kayak on the Provo River, it as really hard to paddle upstream. the current were pretty fast and water level was high. This was due to there being a lot of melted snow flowing from the mountains into the river. So, after this failed attempt at kayaking, we called to see if we could rent a bike instead. Staff gave me credit towards renting a mountain bike. This worked out perfectly, as I got a chance to ride parallel with the river. It a truly awesome experience to ride under the shady trees and watch the powerful Provo River flow into Utah Lake. I don't think I would have been able to have this experience if the staff did not credit my account to rent a bike. I truly appreciate how accommodating they were. read more

The prices here are unbeatable for the gear. For the most part the staff seems to knows the correct gear to put you in. We have rented a snowboard that was too small and had to returned it (they gave us a free rental) and we rented a bike that the brakes weren't 100% solid (they weren't as forgiving on this one as terrifying as the first time experience was.) I would recommend if you're not in a super hurry, but there is plenty of awesome gear to go around for all seasons. read more
