The lady working INSISTED on finding scrap cloths to match it and he kept politely telling her he did not want to be serviced anymore. She was very rude and would not stop harassing him. I just got a brand new dress and wore it once and went to get it cleaned and it came back with several holes in it. Don't waste your time on this terrible place, their is better stuff down the road. I was a first time customer today. I walked in, the lady did say hello; hesitantly. I asked her if she could sew on a very uniquely made patch onto a very lovely jacket. She abruptly says, WHERE? I thinking ok, relax and remove the hesitation from your voice. As I proceeded to explain where the patch would go she days, no, too many turns. She picks the jacket up again looking at it with a sour face. I said of you don't want to do it, just tell me. She hands it back and says nooo with this, passive aggressive response/behavior. I politely said, thank you and left. Finding people to actually wanna do the job they've specialized in is almost impossible. Needless to say, I found a very nice woman who'll have the jacket complete no later than next Wednesday. It's costly. But very worth it. Nu Glo has nothing to worry about with me; I'm only one customer but. For every person who asks about a dry cleaner they hear about my experience. Thank you consumers for listening.

She RUINED my daughters prom dress hem…read more First of all her studio is disgusting and dirty but her name was on a recommendation list and we trusted her. All we needed was a simple hem on a multi layered tulle skirt. I have a background in clothing design and marketing so I could have done it myself but didn't have the time. She not only sewed the hem CROOKED and made it too short in areas but she left a train on the back of the dress despite me specifically telling her we want a straight hem all the way around with NO train. When we went to pick it up she told us it would be $500 CASH!! I was shocked. Shame on me for not asking the hem price in advance but I assumed I knew the average alteration prices because of my background. Here's where it gets interesting. I knew I was screwed and had to pay the $500 because the prom was in 3 days but I wanted her to fix the hem. We were desperate! She gets on the floor and starts willy bully pinning the hem to fix it and is moaning and groaning and mumbling...then she proceeded to start taking the pins out. When I asked her what she's doing she said she didn't want to work on the dress anymore because it was killing her! I said she shouldn't have accepted the job if it was too much work for her (4 layers of fabric). She told us to leave and take the dress. If you are wondering, yes, I did NOT pay her a dime. At that point I had a $600 valued dress that had been ruined and I had to try to fix the hem within a few days. We drove right over to Kathryn's dress shop in McHenry (where we bought the dress) and every employee in there bent over backwards to fix the dress. We immediately saw the seamstress and came up with a compromise to fix the hem enough so that no one would notice and have my daughter wear flat shoes. They fixed the dress beautifully at a very fair alterations price and had it ready in 48 hours on the morning of prom! (Originally they could not alter the dress because they were booked so they gave us a referral list. They will no longer be referring to Maria!) NEVER use Maria's Alterations in McHenry and ALWAYS shop at Kathryn's in McHenry for your special occasion dresses!
