    Pork BBQ 3

Just spotted this kiosk, an outlet of BON banh mi (from San Antonio Village), today in Zuellig Building. They have stock of that crunchy baguette, and a small supply of the banh mi ingredients, all of which are prepared in the main store. Their stock of pork barbecue ran out by the time I got there (around 3 PM), and considering their small space, a line is likely to form if demand is high. The banh mi is just as fresh as it would have been had you bought it in the main store.

Sandwich lover? Check. Do variations in sandwiches and fillings matter to you? Check. Do you love Bahnmi? Great. You live in San Antonio Village? Doesn't matter. Why? Because no matter how far you're from, and if you crave for tasty banhmis, then Bon Banhmi is the place you need to go to. The shop can be found in the residential side of San Antonio Village, along the busy Mayapis Street. You can easily find it because of its characteristic yellow sign above the door. Inside, you will find some pictures of their banhmi selections, their menu, and some tables and chairs. In front of you is a showcase stall of fillings that greets you as you walk in. The owners of the banhmi stall are from Vietnam, and they're normally manning the counter and making their great sandwiches for you. Their selections are traditional, fire beef, roast pork, and their optional banhmi (choose your own fillings). Of course, their banhmis are served in baguettes which the owners baked themselves. While you are enjoying your toasty and tasty sandwich, why not order their artichoke tea? Their tea is at 59 pesos each and is surprisingly good that it really goes with the sandwiches. If you come by in the morning, go grab their coffee, which, is a bit sweet to taste. Overall, their sandwiches are a great go-to and the on-the-go food which are both healthy, handy, and deliciously filling. They also offer deliveries, and they can make your sandwich in advance so you can pick it up later.

When you hear of Vietnamese food, it's always about the pho or the fresh spring rolls. (Not that I have anything against them!) where's the banh mi love?? Enter Bon Banhmi. A banhmi is a standard Vietnamese sandwich, a product of French colonialism (hello history lesson!) which uses a baguette as the bread with a variety of pâtés, beef, cucumbers, cilantro and other stuff. Imagine my surprise when my Mamita (a true tita of Manila) told us about this place in Mayapis-- a few blocks away from her house-- that sells really good Vietnamese sandwiches that all her senior citizen friends loved! Bon Banhmi is really more of a stall than a restaurant, and offers little else other than a banhmi and a standard Vietnamese coffee with a hella kick. It's better to go in the morning when he bread are freshly baked and the store just opened. If you are lazy, but craving for some banhmi, the restaurant also offers delivery within Makati for a minimum of 500 pesos, until 7Pm in the evening.

Located in a non-descript part of San Antonio Village in Makati is a little hole-in-the-wall bahnmi shop that packs a flavorful wallop. Personally, I frankly never got the whole enthusiasm for the Vietnamese bahnmi. I always thought - ok, another sandwich. Big. Friggin. Deal. That was way before I got the chance to try the best bahnmi ever. I've actually never been to the physical store of Bon Bahnmi. My officemates and I simply ordered our bahnmis via phone. That's also one great thing about the place - their delivery service. At Php 79 for the medium bahnmi and Php 99 for a large one, Bon Bahnmi's selections are incredibly affordable. Because of that, I didn't hesitate to order a large of the Traditional one which is made up of lean pork ham, salted and shredded meat, pig's head pate, and boiled meat. Our order finally arrived without a hitch and as I took a big bite out of the sandwich, I let out a loud, incredulous sigh. The bahnmi tasted so good. Each bite was so much better than the last. And before I knew it, I inhaled the whole sandwich. This review isn't an overstatement, folks. Bon Bahnmi's sandwiches are simply incredible.

Packed with flavor! I'm a fan!

Fist off, I love Banh Mi sandwiches! So I've been looking for a place in the Metro that serves up a decent banh mi... Found it!! As I first walked in, I wasn't sure what to expect. This is a quaint little spot that probably seats 10 people max, and I mean max 10 peeps. Thank goodness for air conditioning! I saw a lot of potential goodness walking in but unfortunately, all their spring rolls were not available, so I was off to an obviously good start, not! Who cares! we're here for banh mi! So on to the sandwich; they have a small and a large, I opted for the large being in NY they make them about a foot and a half long, but to my surprise, I see this French LOAF-ish looking bread come out and they start making the sandwich! I'm like ok 119 pesos for this huge sandwich, hmmmmmm, I wonder what I will have to sacrifice to get this honking huge sandwich for just over a hundred pesos... You know what... Totally took me by surprise, like a Mike Tyson 1st round knockout! I thought wow, this is really good. WOW this IS really GOOD! The sandwich although kinda awkward looking due to the large loaf-ish looking bread, was totally on point. The pâté was great, the meat and veggies plentiful for the sandwich. You won't get a mouthful of "tinapay" with your first bite, which I thought would be very possible, yet I'm pleasantly happy that I have yet discovered another place to enjoy those special cravings of memories past. The bread crust was actually perfectly crisp, I honestly don't have anything bad to say... Oh! I ordered the traditional banh mi sandwich, so I cannot speak for the others. This location is a little off the beaten path on one of the side streets in Makati, careful or you will miss it. For you guys who use WAZE, it's listed on the map, BUT its actually like caddy corner from the map location, I drove around the block a few times lost before I finally saw the joint. I tried to visit at night on one occasion, but a word of caution, they close early, in fact I drove by there tonight at around 7:40PM to find they've already shut it down for the night, bummer! a la cuisine! Stay Hungry!

Bun Bo Hue, u made me be homesick!

It's very worth to have Pho and Banh Mi sandwiches at this store. Yes, authentic! and cheaper, more delicious than Pho I had tasted in China (Dalian) before. I'll come back and take some friends.

I love it when I find Asian Street food here that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Case in point, Bon Banh Mi in Makati. Located way inside San Antonio Village in Makati, a place you shouldn't normally find joints like this one, Bon Banh Mi serves damned good Banh Mi at beyond reasonable prices. The first time I tried this, I was an instant fan. The Banh Mi was everything I wanted in a sandwich; the crispy exterior enveloped a wonderful combination of meat and vegetables. I can have this every day, seriously, and I'm happy I have a Banh Mi place so close to home that serves excellent sandwiches. Two thumbs up.

Stick to the classics. Traditional banh mi.

I've had this slight obsession with the banh mi ever since I took that first bite during my teenage years. That banh mi had bread that had just the right amount of crunch on the outside but was soft enough inside to welcome each bite. It was packed with pate, meat, coriander, and some veggies. San Antonio village in Makati has been getting some attention for some of the hole-in-the-wall restaurants that have popped up there. One of them is Bon Banhmi which is owned by a Vietnamese couple. We ordered the traditional bahn mi which had some pork lean ham (cha lua), salted shredded meat (cha bong), boiled meat (thit nguoi), pate (gio thu), coriander, veggies, and some special sauce. Vietnamese sandwiches made by Vietnamese people for around Php 99 - how can you go wrong with that? Having that first bite didn't disappoint and reminded me of that first bite I had when I was much younger. It's exactly how I recall a banh mi should be - a crunchy outside, some pate slathered onto the inside of the bread, a soft and meaty inside with hints of coriander, some veggies with the right amount of snap when your teeth break into them, plus some of that special sauce to blend everything together in all the right ways. This has got to be the best banh mi in Manila right now.

    Best Vietnamese sandwich in Manila.

The space is a bit cramped and service is soso - considering that there are only a handful of tables to wait on. Nonetheless, this is still one of places I'd go to whenever I want a steamy bowl of soup.

The place has air conditioning which makes it a plus as you try to get out of the heat. Seating is super tight which makes it a bit hard to navigate when the diner gets busy. Place was 4 stars at best, but it bad to knock a star off due to the slow service and items that were on the menu but not available. As proof for this foodie, I think I've eaten here a few dozen times, even though I haven't lived in Manila for over 10 years. Run by a competent friendly pinay Jane and other supervisors, on the 2nd or mezzanine floor overlooking the main atrium of this large mall, Pho Bao is really well worth your well-spent cash. Their Vietnamese pho soups and Thai/Viet stews are really good with flavour ingrained in the broth, with quality noodles, lots of tasty tender beef, fresh basil leaves, and competent service. You will leave filled. The prices have edged up over time, but that is standard in much of the food industry all over the world. What's very interesting is that Pho Bao is better than most of the Vietnamese restos in one Canadian province: after checking out and eating in about 20 Viet venues in Calgary (1.3 million people), we only found one to be exemplary (Pure Contemporary Vietnamese Kitchen), only one other to be good, and the rest just playing games with ignorant westerners. In fact, if you want better in the Phils, likely one has to go to Troi Oi in Iloilo City (not hard for a google maps and a taxi to find). Thus, given too many imposters who don't care, it may be a fair assumption to say that it's rare to find a truly great Vietnamese restaurant in any 'foreign' country. So come to Pho Bao for some good nourishment as one of the best casual little restaurants in the country. I don't think you will be disappointed. Just inside the main entrance off Pedro Gil, walk past the competition to this simple place on the 2nd floor and enjoy?

I always go for their Pho Bo Nam (Well Done Beef Brisket noodles) and it's only Php185. The meat was tender and the broth was light yet very flavorful. With the Pho, you get the bean sprouts, white onions and coriander plus the Sriracha! I've also tried their Bánh mì. It's actually pretty good but, sometimes, their bread is not crunchy which is an essential factor when eating a Bánh mì. You must try their Vietnamese drip coffee.
