They are extremely knowledgeable, and I love their forward thinking. They only use local ingredients for their drinks. If it doesn't grow in Canada or Quebec, they do not use it. So they do not use things like citrus. Instead, they come up with other ways to bring the flavor into their cocktails and food. And definitely try some food! We went for the drinks, but the food blew our minds. We got some mixed tapa plates and loved it all- especially the homemade beef jerky. The back patio is so nice during the summer. Opened in 2024 by the team behind Quebec City's only 2 Michelin starred restaurant, Taniere, this is now the spot to be for those in the know. So, how is trial and error going of crafting something genuinely Canadian? Cocktails are superb on both taste and presentation. The food is remarkably plated with extremely high quality ingredients. The room itself reminds me of a cool speakeasy bar/resto you'd find in the streets of New York City. It's hidden in an alleyway behind a very unassuming door. Oyster's with sauce, I have never had oysters that were so smooth and clean. And I have had a lot of oysters over the years. Anyone would enjoy these. My buddy has the French onion soup, might be the best we ever had! I had filet (6oz) with lobster; so delicious! I had a baked potato. So good! My wife had the filet with mashed potatoes. To make matters worse, a drooping, waterlogged lobster tail had been placed directly on top of the steak, leaving the meat not only dark gray but also watery. Instead of a perfectly cooked steak, I was served something that looked and tasted overcooked and soggy. When I mentioned it to the server, she told me to cut it open. I did, and the inside was dark gray from edge to edge. Rather than apologizing or immediately offering to replace it, she said that if I really wanted to, she could take it back, but that it looked fine to her. At that point, I gave up. I ate an overcooked, chewy, waterlogged steak along with cold frites and vegetables that had clearly been sitting for a while. The service made an already disappointing meal even worse. Steak Avenue has a nice atmosphere, but if they can't cook a steak properly, or stand behind it when they don't, I can't recommend it. Steak Avenue should be called "Steak Cul-de-Sac," because you'll want to walk in... and then walk right back out.
