I'll be honest, this Sando can/should be improved a lot. I would give the sando a 2/5. You guys can do better here. With the sando, I upgraded to side of poutine. This was the winner of the night. Very simple classic poutine: fries, curds, gravy. It was excellent. The fries are thin and crispy. I prefer this over thicker cut fries. Gravy and curds were good. They didn't put so much gravy that everything got soggy. I thought it was a very very solid poutine. 5/5. The Beignet were also very good. A maple sauce of some sort I believe. Presented nicely. 4/5. Stopped here on our way from the US into Quebec. Really cute bar vibes and fun music. My friends and I were treated right away when we walked in and offered an English menu. Our server was really friendly and social. As someone with celiac, I have to eat gluten free and it was no problem here. I was able to have the chicken tinga tacos and the spinach artichoke dip. They made it obvious that they didn't want english speaking customers. Food was ok. Sat for 30 minutes before having to ask for a waitress. Then it took us another 30 minutes to get fish and chips. I'm always on the hunt for great cheap eats and this place is POPPIN'. Each item for $5.95 CAD...I'm quaking. Granted, the food isn't to die for but combine it with the hip atmosphere and you've got a fun place to hang out with friends at. Note that the music was quite loud. Here's what we ordered: -Poutine: Just your average poutine with bacon and peppered gravy. A dab too salty and peppery for my taste. -Swiss Mushroom Burger: Pretty good burger. I did myself a dirty and had just finished watching The Burger Show with Alvin Cailan, so I was craving burgers real bad. Visited this restaurant when my boyfriend and I were looking for some late night snacks. This place was open really late. It's a nice place for cheap eats. You can get a full meal for under $10. All things on the menu are $4.95 but add ons make it more expensive. I got the mac and cheese with bacon. It was ok, a little spicy. Decent if you're hungry but I've had better. My boyfriend got the braised beef spaghetti. There was little or no braised beef on it. Taste wise it was also just okay. As for drinks, there is a large variety of alcoholic drinks. This place rocks my world. Honestly one of my very favorite restaurants ever. My husband and I were in Quebec for the first time and were staying in a hotel a few blocks away. We were starving, it was late, and we had no idea where to go to get some decent food that late at night. My husband found Le Bureau de Poste on Google and when we found that the food was all under $5, we were sold. The atmosphere here is incredible. We just got good vibes being there. We loved the live DJ and the fun 80s, 90s, and 2000s music playing. There are TV screens all over the restaurant and they will often play music videos on them intermittently. Lots of people in their twenties, but also plenty of the older crowd too. The decorations are simple and pretty much non-existent, but we loved the lights stringing on the ceiling. The food was really pretty amazing, especially considering that it was all under $5. We loved the burgers and the chicken wrap, fyi. Sweet potato fries with mango sauce and poutine were excellent as well. Now. Word of caution. If you want to eat here, just come on a weeknight. It's not worth waiting in line for hours on a weekend. We only waited about 10 min on a weeknight, and had quick service. It was also almost unbearably loud on the weekend. Bottom line: If you are in the area, COME HERE. It was way fun. In a nutshell, this was my experience: We waited quite a while to get in; there was a long lineup!! The inside was dark and loud and there was a lot of people just sitting together and chatting over the loud music. I myself enjoy this type of atmosphere because I like loud, lively and informal eating establishments. The waiter was pretty nice and chill and kept reassuring us we were getting our food.... Cause we had to wait a while for the food (45mins). But it is very cheap. Everything is $4.95 and you get a pretty big portion. Since I was extremely hungry, I ordered a burger and fried chicken! There was a language barrier that I think hindered some of the service, none the less, the service was accommodating and eager to please. Four stars for this. The two stars come in for the food. There are snowboards on the walls comfortable booths and solo seats, wide screen tv screens showing extreme sports, a wide tall bar and a happening exterior patio terrace. We looked over the menu wondering where the prices were until we found out everything is $5. Excellent value for very decent food. Don't expect the ritz, it's $5. Drink are more expensive hence the whole equation works. The ambiance is very hip and lively and why it gets 5 stars when adding everything up. As for the food, it is as good as it gets and it is very decent, considering the price: 3 stars - skinny buffalo chicken wings: wow - garlic shrimp on toast with avocado: wow - corn chorizo queso with chips: no thanks - chicken Cesar wrap - so-so - sweet potato fries - good Costco style - peppered French fries- good - BBQ jalapeño beef burger - so so The beer list: wow & extensive and drinks are in the $6-9 range. I was let down by this place. We had to wait in line outside in subzero temperatures for 20 minutes before we were seated (at the bar) and there were a number of spots open. We ordered after looking over the menu and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally inquired where our food was. Bartender walked away without saying anything and five minutes later comes back and says that the food is on its way. Food quality was good (for $5 a piece). A little less flavor than I'd expect but after spending 8 hours on a plane and being slightly delirious any nourishment was welcome. Beers on tap were decent and mixed drink we got was ok. I also had the wings and they were the best wing I had in a long time. My friend had fish taco and described them as something he could have made at home. Really bummed that our first dinner in QC this summer was kind of a let down. The bar area was extremely loud so we were happy there was seating outside. I've got to imagine if the owners sold only their $5 dishes they'd never turn a profit. Don't get me wrong all the $5 dishes I tried were terrific. They were nicely presented and served with full sized portions. Others have referred to them as "small plates" but there was nothing small about the plates I received. Each dish was a decent size. The mashed potatoes in my Shepard's Pie might have been from a mix and the fries in my poutine mighty have been slightly soggy, but eh, I've had worst. Plus I took it all in context. Less money for food meant more money available for booze ;-) Speaking of booze I think Unibroue's Blanche de Chambly "on tap" is my newly found love. Overall I loved the atmosphere of this restaurant. Its vibe was lively, loud, and kinda young (that really shouldn't be a surprise for a restaurant that serves $5 dishes and hangs numerous skateboards on the walls). This is a bar where everything on the menu is $4.95. A family friend recommended this place to us so we had somewhat of a high expectation. We kind of went ham and ordered a LOT since everything was $4.95. Here are some analysis for each dish we ordered: Homemade Peach Iced Tea: It tasted like melted candy. It tasted like they used peach juice from can, I still liked it nonetheless being a sweet tooth :P Onion Rings: Had a sweet glaze over it, with a side of aioli mayo. It was average, it tasted like frozen onion rings out of the box. Wings: We chose lemon & salt flavoring for the wings, but it just tasted salty. The wings were dry and old. Do not recommend :/. We also got a side of carrots and celery for a dollar extra but turned out to not be worth it as you can see in the picture. Perogies: Their only saving grace. The crispy bacon and the green onions were a good compliment to the cheesy fillings. Nachos: The dip was super rich, warm and creamy. The nachos were meh, the bread was good. Salad: We got beet and goat cheese salad. It was simple but good. Portion was pretty small even for $5 though. Potato Skins: The potato skin had wayyy too much of the potato, it turned out to be more like bland baked potatoes instead of being crispy. The braised beef on top was good, but we left most of the potato uneaten. Spaghetti: So the biggest culinary shock I've ever gotten at a restaurant was this spaghetti 'cause it was just laughably bad. It tasted like spaghetti from a can. Noodles were way overcooked and the sauce was tasteless. Braised beef was good, the same as on the potato skins, but definitely not good enough to salvage everything else that's atrociously bad. The plate came out like the picture, with a really sloppy presentation. Burger: The burger used frozen store bought patty, it tasted bland. Worse than that were the buns. It was the furthest thing from fluffy and made everything else taste worse. read more

There's a $1.75 charge added to each take out meal ( outrageous! $1.75 for EACH order) so $5.25 added to the total which would have been another meal. We walked across town to go to this place after the recommendation of our Airbnb host. We were drawn not only because of the recommendation but also because it seemed every restaurant we passed in Vieux Quebec and its surroundings offered the same, mediocre, overpriced food. We were not looking to spend $60+ on lunch at a jacked-up tourist luring place or even $30 on fast food. We ended up spending about $50 with tip here. We ordered 3 food dishes (soft tacos, queso dip, and veggie stir fry) and 2 shock top beers on tap each. The beer came out to $22 and cost more than the food, so the drinks are definitely where they're making their money. The food didn't knock my socks off, but was very very solid for the price. We were stuffed when we left. The service was eh, as some people have mentioned it took a while to get seated and in addition our first round of food took a while to come. However, in all, this place was exactly what we needed as 2 20-somethings traveling on a budget. We would definitely return and recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent, cheap bite. After reading a number of rave reviews and a few very negative ones about some service issues, I decided to give Bureau de Poste a try on a rainy Sunday evening. Upon arriving at the restaurant, a waiter approached my group of two and told us we couldn't wait in the entrance and had to go stand outside - AFTER DARK, IN THE RAIN. There was no greeting, no mention of how long we'd have to wait, and no offering us a spot at the bar... Um, excuse me? Now I've served and bartended before and I get that sometimes things can get hectic and stressful, but someone really needs to train the front of house staff in customer service because that kind of attitude is completely unacceptable. Period. Needless to say, we decided to leave and simply walked a few blocks down to Nina Pizza Napolitaine where we were welcomed inside to wait for a table. I read about this spot online so when my friend and I arrived we had high expectations. They were met and surpassed. The food was amazing (we had poutine and beef tacos), the service was impeccable, the drinks were great, and most of all the environment was legendary. It's hard to beat an entire menu under CAD 5. As a 22 year old, it was fantastic to sit at the bar and watch a bevy of classic music videos from the past 15+ years speed by on the well positioned TVs. They played a wide range of music including Kendrick Lamar, Outkast, DMX, Ludacris, Jurassic Five, and Queen. This place reminds me of the El furniture Warehouse franchise in Toronto and now Ottawa. They both have food for 5$, same crowd, same environment and style.. etc. We were in Quebec for 2 birthday celebrations and Thanksgiving so we were in the mood to drink and hit a few pubs. Luckily, this place was a quick walk from our loft. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was when we walked in there was several empty tables and no one around to seat us. I've worked in the f&b industry so I know it is usually a no-no to seat yourself, but we watched a few people walk right past us and nothing was said. Eventually, after being ignored and no obvious signage asking patrons to wait we decided to grab a table and immediately the hostess appears to tell us it is her job to seat us and we would have to move. We get up and wait at the door only for her to tell us to sit where we initially were. She did not handle this very gracefully. Luckily, the server was very sweet and prompt. She treated us no different than the locals next to us. Her English was perfect (although we are bilingual). Yes, food is cheap, but so are drinks compared to that of Toronto.
