I am confused. Nothing on the menu suggests a Baton Rouge, LA culinary experience. Rather; the menu is "North American corporate." I opt'd for BBQ ribs and chicken. The sauce is very dark, very thick, coats everything and of the sweet variety ... and the smoke flavor ... I suspect is liquid smoke. I opt'd for veggies rather than the available starches. My dining companion ordered salmon. It looked good and he enjoyed it enough to put it on his "would order again" list. Hostess and waitress (Leah?) we're both prompt and attentive. Update: The general manager Jason Pollock responded to my review on google and sent me an email. He doubled down on the aggressive attitude of the manager at the restaurant. He also read my prior google review and said that I tend to have a negative experience. Overall this business does not understand customer service. He did not address the fact that his manager did not seek to solve the problem instead he just insulted me more via email. Don't dine here. The food and service were not great. For a restaurant that is charging these prices they needed to train their staff better and season the food. I visited this restaurant on the evening of June 3rd at around 9:30pm. I was seated immediately and ordered a calamari appetizer and 2 entrees. The entrees were both the top sirloin steak with a baked potato and a half rack of pork ribs. Upon receiving the food we noticed that the food was severely under seasoned. The ribs were smothered in bbq sauce and you could barely taste the smoked rib. The steak had no flavor and I questioned if anything had been added to it. We then asked our waiter if the food could be taken off the check and if we could just pay for the calamari as the food was inedible. The waiter then took the food and said he would bring the manager. As we waited for the manager I could see the waiter over in the corner with the manager whispering. At that point I could see that the manager was upset. The manager proceeded to come over and basically yell at us. He told us that the restaurant sells so much food and that this is the way the food is. My friend then questioned why he had such a bad attitude and wasn't offering a solution. He basically said we had to take the food as it was and pay for it whether we liked it or not. I then asked why he couldn't just have the food seasoned more by the chef. The manager then started to backtrack and accused us of giving the waiter an attitude. We had simply said we didn't like the food and told him what was wrong with it. After we clarified that we had not given anyone an attitude he said he would have the food re-made with more seasoning. Overall the experience left a bad impression. To be yelled at in a restaurant is unacceptable. read more

I came to celebrate a friends birthday. Atmosphere is really cozy and perfect for talking, but the food was a hit or miss. Their ribs are consistently delicious; tender and fall of the bone, with a thick, rich, BBQ sauce. The lobster tail was also flavourful. However, their fries are not good, they are too soft and lack flavour. The burger patty is quite dry as well. I love this restaurant for their awesome ribs!! NObody comes close, for tenderness and taste. I'm so glad they've opened this site so close to home!! The only down side that I can think of is that it tends to be a bit dark inside, but all the outlets are like that. This restaurant is a bit upscale and might not be the first choice for people with kids although people do bring them here. Definitely a great place for any adult get together. Arrived and it took longer than expected for waiter to acknowledge our arrival and ask if we wanted to start with beverage or appetizer. I ordered a smokey old fashion off their menu with picture included. What I got was more like a whiskey sour. It was cloudy, light in color and had soda water or something fizzy in it. It was sent back and was told that was an old fashion. Not sure where the bartender learned that. I then ordered a whiskey coke and I swear they forgot to put whiskey in it. Ended up ordering a glass of wine with dinner. The food was very mediocre. Ordered soup and a New York strip with mashed potatoes. Never received the soup before the meals came out, so I never bothered to follow up. The steak was over cooked and the mashed potatoes were very dry and lacked any flavor. This is the place!! I keep coming back and I know why!! Everything I've tried on this menu has been beyond great!! RSVP if you can as this location is always busy. Service is first class. I've been to the location downtown and its night and ay between the 2. Like someone mentioned before, lunch is a bit pricey. Can't remember exactly if it was a philly cheese steak sandwich or a prime rib sandwich but it was good. The menu's pretty limited for lunch. Parking can be annoying because its a shared lot with the strip mall and Best Buy. When you're walking towards the restaurant you'll smell why I keep coming back and you won't be disappointed when you are seated and are served your delicious meal. read more

Not a Morton's but a still solid local choice for a steak dinner. I'm told the baby back ribs are quite good too. Tasty caesar salad and they will add anchovies on request. I've personally always had good experiences at this Bâton Rouge location - both with the food and the service. The last time I was in I had the Bâton Rouge burger which was great. A group of 8 of us went there this past Saturday night. We had reservations for 7:30 and our table was ready when we arrived. We ordered crab cakes, spinach dip and calamari for our appetizers - everything was delicious! The spinach dip is a favorite of mine! The staff was very accommodating - we had one person arrive an hour after everybody else had ordered. Our server was able to rush their order through and it arrived around the same time that the other entrees were brought out. The food was hot and well seasoned. I ordered the half rack of ribs (I always go for their ribs - they're my favorite!) with the loaded baked potato (hold on the shallots). Everybody received the correct order and enjoyed the meal. We had a peanut butter fudge cake slice for dessert that was amazing! Overall, we had a great experience, loved the food and will definitely be going back! read more

I started with the caesar salad, with the filet mignon and loaded baked potato with a skewer of shrimp for my main. The caesar was ok in the sense that it wasn't overdressed as it so often is elsewhere, but it was strange in that the caesar dressing had an uncharacteristic sweet tang, while I was really hoping for the garlicky emulsified smoothness of a traditional caesar. My filet and baked potato were "A-Ok" in Yelp-speak, but definitely nothing memorable. A truly great steak should leave you thinking about it for days, lusting after grilled meaty perfection; this steak left a decidedly "meh" afterthought. The shrimp skewer was good, however again, there wasn't really anything memorable. One thing that I found strange was that for a higher-priced restaurant, the beer selection was pretty terrible, only serving the usual Molson and Labatt Beer Store brands. Why not include some good Ales and Stouts? For the price, you could definitely find a better, more memorable dining experience. read more

My hubby and I were here for a dinner date and our first mistake was not making reservations-hence my tip-after about a 15 minute wait we were seated, drinks were ordered and specials explained. Now we weren't in a hurry, but if you are familiar with Baton Rouge's MO- sit, eat, leave-we did feel pressured to be quick in return (minus one star). We decided we would force a slow meal on them. Once drinks came-no, sorry we were not ready to order, about 15 minutes later we were asked if ready to order again and we said no but we did order an appetizer (Cajun calamari that was good). From there we felt there were too many servers hovering around-making us both feel annoyed. (Minus one star) and to boot we couldn't get a beer refill despite the abundance of staff. The waiter came by and finally told us if we didn't want to be bothered we could put an open menu facing the end of the table and when we are ready close the menu. Hearing that was a relief, why we didn't hear that earlier in the night I'm not sure. We both had ribs (what else right?)although the ribs were good-I ordered the ribs and chicken tenders which looked better than they tasted-they were soggy so minus one star. This isn't the first time I've been to a Baton Rouge Steakhouse chain but the first time I've been to the one in Kanata. I was in Ottawa for a wedding and this place was chosen as the place for a rehearsal dinner. I ordered the New York striploin, medium rare. I know my steaks very well as I've been to restaurants all over the world, including Michelin rated restaurants so I know the difference between medium and medium rare. When our table received our food, some people were missing their shrimp, others were missing the goat cheese on their steak, and my steak came out way too well-done to the point where it was almost well done. Our server addressed everyone else's concerns (about their missing food) very courteously but when she came to me, she had the audacity to argue with me as to what a medium rare steak was. I had not even taken a bite out of my steak yet and when I cut into it, I knew right away, that that steak was *NOT* medium rare. She then said, "Oh really? Because this looks like the PERFECT medium rare steak to me." I then told her I would give it a try but when I cut into another part of the steak, it was WELL DONE. I basically then told her, "No, I'm sorry. I cannot eat this steak. I really have to send this back." She very reluctantly sent the steak back and the next time it came out, it was fine but I have had way better steaks before. She also did check in a second time to make sure the steak was okay, which I think was respectful. However, I feel like had I not been tough enough and had I lived up to the stereotypical "cute little fearful Asian girl", she would not have backed down and she would have further challenged me on what the definition of a medium rare steak was. I was mostly upset with the fact that this server addressed everyone else's concerns without *any* hesitations and when she approached me, had the nerve to basically challenge me. This is a service industry and when someone tells you that their food isn't done right, I expect one to be respectful about constructive criticism. It is not as if I had been a d-bag and eaten a full plate and then tell her it wasn't right. I had actually made sure to cut into my steak and *very respectfully* told her about the steak not being medium rare. Overall, I had a great time with my friends as this was one of my closest friend's wedding but the customer service at this restaurant could definitely use a little bit more work. read more

Dark, rich wood paneling everywhere, shoulder height booths, dark coffered ceilings, and cosy leather secluded seating. I REALLY wanted to like it....but I can't. This appears to be a ribeye with some of the rib still attached. For those of us with cave man ancestors who sat at the front of the fire, the description is mouthwatering... "Center cut...dry aged 28 days...wonderful marbling and exquisite flavors"... Well, it did not live up to the hype... Hell, it didn't hit 25% of the goal. I admit the frozen veggies flipped my perspective a bit, but I was willing to write off the vegan chew toys IF the blood sport was up to snuff... It wasn't. I am guessing my previously mentioned ancestors would have appreciated gnawing on this tasteless hunk of corn fed sysco prime... But only because they were attempting to avoid starvation at every corner. "Severely disappointed" comes to mind. $38 AHD (America's Hat Dollars) for this debacle? Never again. For less money, you can walk across the mall here, to the Crazy Horse Stone Grill Steakhouse & Saloon... and indulge in grass fed ambrosia! (Write up pending, due to my insistence upon triple taste testing the best steakhouses in town, prior to reporting in) :-) To drag this poor steakhouse a little further through the mud... Their "house made" aioli tastes and textures as if it is nothing more than cheap mayo with some garlic paste... Regarding service: the waiter and waitress were very nice and engaging, and professional. This reviewer has no complaints regarding the service. I feel bad for them.. Maybe they should go across the mall and apply at the Crazy Horse! They are the ONLY reason this was not a one-star review. Overall: Very disappointed. That is my final thought. No, wait... My FINAL thought is "man, I am gonna be in dutch with the Missiz for spending $40 on THIS?... Damn -- In restaurant UPDATE: They charged me $3AHD for SODA WATER...not San Pelligrino... The overall taste of the poutine was good, although the fries could have been more crispy. I found the service to be fast. Came here for dinner with my boyfriend on a Saturday night around 5pm. We didn't make reservations so had to wait for 30-40 mins to get a table. When we put our name on the wait list we went and did some window shopping near by. When we came back we felt that some people who had gotten in after we did were being seated before us. We weren't sure if they had reservations or not but it still seemed odd. When we got to our table my boyfriend ordered calamari for us to start. The calamari was good! My boyfriend had the 14oz prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes with mushrooms and grilled vegetables. He was very happy that the 14oz's were thick not spread out and thin. He also really liked the fact that the grizzle was on the outside of the steak and a nice marble throughout. I got the crab cake sirloin, garlic mashed potatoes with mushrooms and grilled vegetables. I was very pleased that the vegetables were nice and juicy and flavourful. The veggies were also crunchy but not raw and not soggy. The serving size was way more than the keg from my experience. I couldn't finish all my potatoes. I asked for a medium rare steak and got a more rare steak. But it wasn't bad enough that I had to send it back. The gravy was really tastey and tasted home made. I wish I had room for dessert! I would have loved to try some of their desserts. In the end it wasn't anything super special and not really that spectacular for the wait we had. read more

In late December 2009, I visited this restaurant with friends for the first time. I have eaten at the downtown location many times and enjoyed the experience. This location is first class. Of coarse the Restaurant was packed and reservations are a must. As we entered the aroma of their famous rib sauce filled our nostrils. We were seated on time and the service throughout the evening was excellent! Our reservations were for 7:30 pm and we were not rushed to make way for a later reservation. We left the restaurant around 10:30 pm. The ribs were "fall off the bone" excellent! My partner had a chicken dish which was also first class. They have excellent fries. The group experience was also excellent. Everyone in our party had the same comments about this restaurant - Excellent! And we will be returning. read more

We had a family dinner here last week and were really happy with the experience. We had reservations for 7pm and were seated on time. Ordered a seafood medley and was pleasantly surprised at the portion sizes. We all left with full bellies I definitely left satisfied and will be going back for sure. It gets quite loud as it's very open but the food and service certainly made up for it. The prices are a tad high but we went there knowing that. My wife and I went for lunch last week. I ordered the classic hamburger with cole slaw and my wife ordered the beef dip, She did not like the taste but did not complain. The hamburger I got was very burnt and dry as if they had cooked it the day before and then reheated it today. I sent it back they cooked me a fresh burger and it was like night and day. We've had mixed experiences here but the latest one was disappointing. We went in a group of 12 so we new that service might be a little slower for our table but what we weren't expecting is for our orders to get forgotten or wrong. Don't get me wrong, the food is almost always delicious but its the service that seems to be hit or miss. When we were ordering drinks, a few of them were forgotten and had to be reordered. For dinner, I had ordered the full rack of ribs and only the half was brought out. When we asked about it, they said that it got punched in wrong and they would quickly cook up another half rack and send it out. However, it never came (they still tried to charge us for a full though). When they asked if they could bring us anything, someone asked for mayo for dipping their fries... it also never came and we had to ask again. After dinner, coffee and teas were ordered, however, they brought the wrong type of tea for another person at the table. It just seemed like they did not care about the service at all. I understand that serving a table of 12 can be difficult but there's still a certain level of service you expect and we all felt that they fell short. read more

This beauty we frequent about once every two weeks, the last visit being Dec. 29th. As with most of the other yelpers, I agree the food is a-ok. The majority of our time spent is at lunch time, hoping to catch a quite bite to eat. On a regular basis I always find the lunch soup dissapointing. It is always quite bland, without much flavor at all and at times can be too hearty considering the size of their main dishes. In this case I had the cream of potato...which after that experience, I'm going to skip the soups from now on. Not only was there no flavor (I threw a good deal of salt and pepper in there) it had a very glue-like consistancy...and disspointingly had a HUGE chunk of potato in it, unmashed. Next came my primerib sandwich which I had never tried before. Ususally I find their ribs generally good, the sauce sweet, but enough if its lightly brushed on. This sandwich looked dissapointingly small considering it was listed to come on a baguette, and mine came on a small ciabatta bun. Also 3/4 of my plate was filled with fries that slightly resembled pubic hair. My first bite into the sandwich was horrible. Not only was the pork overpowered with the sweet sauce, my bun was rock hard. The service as usual was very friendly, so the waiter immediatly switched out my plate for a new sandwich. When my plate came back about 10 minutes later (brand new) my bun came back as a premade villagio hamburger bun instead of the rock hard ciabbata, which should have been a baguette. Also, on both old and new plate, I was missing my au jus, and of course saw that there was no cheese on the actual sandwich. Overall it was a huge mess of over sweetened, goopy pork sause with a little bit of onions slapped on a Tim Hortons sized, rock hard soup bun (first) and then the same thing slapped on a cheap and untoasted Villagio hamburger bun. Sadly I was pretty dissapointed with this experience, and will think twice before I decide to return for the lunch. As stated I have been here many times before, and find no issue with the decore or the service, as both are wonderful, but the food lately has been really turning me off. It also doesn't help the fact that a huge piece of dried crusted food came with my soup spoon twice in a row (don't ask me why, but thank god I carry a tasting spoon in my purse). I will be back, but it won't be anytime soon, and when I do I'm going to stick with something idiot proof like a hamburger and a ceasar salad...lets hope they get the bun right on that one! I would normally rate this place 3 stars, but because of the soup, and the sandwich, this time it deserves 2. read more

As some others have said, the atmosphere in here is very pleasant and it's comfortable and has great appeal and appearance! The classic British interiors really do set your expectations way higher than what you get! We are staying across the street at the Holiday Inn and the smoker smell of the ribs also raises your expectations another into a realm making you believe you're dining in a dream! The hostess and server service is acceptable but it's not fantastic. Of course the flip side is it's not horrible either! But, both times we were there, multiple flys were buzzing around our table the instant the food showed up. This was a huge turn off and a major distraction. The prices are a bit unreasonably high. We're here on business from the USA and I understand there is a 1:1.2 conversion rate plus the local 13% tax, but still, unreasonable. $14.00 for a small chicken Cesar salad (x2) and $3.00 for a drink (x2) and tax left us with a $38 bill for lunch. Add a tip and it was $45. On the previous visit we both had a small rack of the smoked ribs with the included side and a pop and is was $65 after tip. The food is not bad, I'd say decent but not fantastic! There is nothing specific I can fault about the meal itself, other than I have had better salads and better ribs on many occasions. Overall, not bad, a bit pricey and they need a bug zapper. I'll be here another 21 days so I'm sure I'll be there again but this time my expectations won't be quite so high. read more
