We hired this company to fix a recurring erosion issue on the steps into our basement. We have a cellar-style basement with an outdoor entrance from our porch. They quoted us almost $5,000 to pour a concrete pad and build a cinder block wall around part of the entrance. They took weeks to fix it, even stopping in the middle for a few weeks without communicating the pause to us. After they "fixed" it , we realized the problem wasn't fixed and all the dirt kept falling on the same area. We called them back, but they blamed it on another issue. Unfortunately they didn't want to fix it, and we are still having the same issue with the basement as before we hired them even though we paid almost $5000 to get it fixed. Imagine that you and your siblings inherit your grandmother's home. Before you take possession, a court-appointed administrator allows the basement to flood, and now there is mold growing in the basement and sub basement. Your realtor recommends c&j basement solutions to remove the mold and repair the water damage, so you get an estimate and sign a $21,473 contract which itemizes the work to be done. You are informed, in writing, that residual counts of mold spores from air flow may be present on the first floor and above, but that no mold growth was detected on the upper two floors. You did not, at any time, authorize or pay for work on the upper floors. **Imagine your shock when you walk in your front door to discover that the entire house has been completely gutted. Walls, ceilings, floors, doors, cabinets, sinks, stove, lights, fixtures, moldings, oven, toilets, bathtubs-- everything was gone. (See pictures) You no longer have a house. You have the frame of a house, and a bill from the company that destroyed it.** You consult with your attorney, who immediately drafts a letter to c&j basement solutions. Unfortunately for you, your sibling decides (against attorney advice) to actually pay the remaining balance. Once the bill is paid in full, there is little you can do to hold c&j basement solutions financially responsible for their negligent, unprofessional behavior and the complete destruction of your home's interior. Imagine how you'd feel if you hired a company to work on your basement and they gutted every room in the house down to the studs. Within 3 days of being a first time homeowner, I had a massive flood in the basement that occurred in March of 2020 from a crazy downpour. I was obviously distraught and wasn't looking forward to spending an additional excess amount of money after purchasing the home. The home was a rehab home built in 1900 so there were some pretty significant basement issues that were neglected due to the stone foundation. I met with three (3) other companies to get estimates and the first two (2) were all had different opinions, objectives, and of course pricing. The gentleman who came to my house and did the overall estimate was upfront, caring, truthful, and had multiple suggestions on what to do. The fact they offer to finance has saved me tremendously during this difficult time with the COVID19 pandemic. I made the decision to go to C&J within minutes. Several weeks go by and ultimately it was a three (3) day job with two (2) individuals who were some of the hardest working people I've ever encountered. The end result exceeded my wildest expectations and of course, the day after they finish? It rains and not a single drop got inside. I'm so relieved that I no longer have to go down to the basement and mop out water. The workers even took the time to do small little things that weren't requested that went a long way (filling certain holes and cracks in the concrete and ultimately leveled out spots that needed it.) I will recommend C&J any day of the week, save your time and research, and use this review as a benefiting factor that you want this company for all your basement needs. Our sump pump quit working on Thursday evening and water started backing up into our basement. I did have a backup one that had a defective battery so I was able to use that temporarily to stop the flooding and get the water under control. But it was quite clear something needed to be done. We had been quoted a month earlier $804 and $1,199 from two other basement plumbers that specialized in Sump Pump. Vacation was coming up though and we didn't have that sort of money. I remembered I had a friend who was in the plumbing business though so I asked him for a referral to some place that was affordable and wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg. He recommended C & J Basement Solutions and so I gave them a call about 6:45pm, just 15 minutes before they were to close for the day. I got voicemail and left a message, thinking that I would get a call Friday morning. Instead just 5 minutes later a very friendly woman called me back and got me on the schedule for Friday morning! Friday morning comes and Jeff, the service technician from C&J shows up early by about 10 minutes. After waiting on cable TV and other repairmen sometimes for hours it was refreshing that Jeff was respectful of my time and showed up slightly early. Impressive so far. Jeff went downstairs and I explained the history of the sump pump. He said he would need a few minutes to look at it and so I went back and checked on him in 15 minutes and he said my main pump wasn't functioning at all. I asked him for a quote and he said he could do it for a fraction of the cost of the other two guys, by about half. I was very happy with that and asked him when he could do it. He said "well how about now?" Now that was music to my ears! After briefly discussing it with the wife we decided to go ahead and authorize Jeff to put in the new pump. Jeff had one quick trip to a local hardware store and then was back and working on it within 30 minutes. After about another 30 minutes he came upstairs and told me it was all done. I verified the work and noticed our water level was considerably lower. Jeff explained how the new pump worked and that our old pump, when working, had simply not been installed correctly and had let our water level get way too high. This new pump was top of the line and would pump out all of the excess water the way it should and keep our water line low. After a quick handshake with Jeff it was all done. I was very happy and that is a huge understatement. To have a failing pump on Thursday evening and a service visit, a quote and a full install at an economical price by the next morning was beyond the pale. I thanked Jeff profusely and told him he'd be getting an excellent review from me asap. I cannot recommend Jeff enough. He is a friendly guy who will take the time to explain all of your options, he's punctual and respectful of your home and most importantly for many of us he is not going to charge you a huge markup. So if you are looking for someone to help you with your sump pump or other plumbing and basement needs I can tell you that I wholeheartedly recommend Jeff and he has my eternal gratitude for getting our situation resolved as he did before our vacation. We've been trying to solve our basement water issues for a while and have had numerous companies come out to give estimates. (Everdry led off with a $40K+ "solution" that wasn't needed.) Ron Frye gave an honest assessment about our patio and land grading that didn't benefit C&J, but is the right way to take care of the problem. He even cut into the drywall to confirm the water was entering from the top-down. If they needed to have done the work the others suggested, their price would have been lower too. I was initially extremely impressed with the sales representative and work crew I dealt with, but that all changed after my payment for services was made. After completion of my waterproofing project, my hot water heater would no longer remain lit. The technicians on site advised they had taken care of it prior to leaving, but this was not the case. I called the business to advise them of the issue and was told they had not touched the hot water heater as part of the process. I questioned this because the job order included a $350 fee for moving the unit 16". I was then told this was not needed, but had not been advised of this overcharge nor would have had the water heater not been damaged. For several days I tried to work out a solution with the business, but after 6 days was finally told their plumber could not address this for 3 additional days. At this point I handle the issue through a 3rd party. Deceptive pricing (charging for services not provided), not responsible (big coincidence in water heater issue the day of basement jack hammering), poor communication (could have advised day 1 i was on my own). Find another provider of services..... Not the only option for basement waterproofing around. read more
