We were at the Hogue Tract. This site is across the Rapidan River from Kelly's Ford. There is a short trail takes you to 4 hunting sheds. Very old information mounts about the wildlife. Very interesting infomation board regarding what to hunt and when. You can access the river from this trail - foot access. Climb down some rocks to the sandy shore. Very pretty and peaceful but you lose all that peaceful stuff when you see the tracks I photographed in the mud by the shoreline. Check them out. Are they dog prints or something else? read more

Open September through March only; check their website for hours, but when open, 9am to 530pm Mon-Sat, and 130pm to 430pm Sundays. I'm not sure if the old review will show up, so I'll post that info again. If you go, take clothespins, cardboard backing and your own targets, otherwise you'll be going home disappointed. The only two downsides are that you have to shoot from a seated position, and the distances for the targets aren't marked, they are 25, 50 and 100 yards. Longarms only (rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader), no pistols. There are 7 seated stations. Any time I've gone (went there today, the day before firearms season starts) and got a seat right away, a couple of guys had to wait maybe 15 mins. Everyone is very courteous and professional that sight-in there, no one rushes anyone, but no one hogs the time either. There is plenty of parking and one porta-potty. The range rules and hours are prominently posted in front of the parking. There are no trash cans, so bring a plastic bag to police your trash and casings. They do have a can now for casings, but of course people are throwing their trash in there, SMH. The CF Phelps website has the hours and rules as well. read more
