A great place for kids to learn. Friendly and courteous staff. Treats my kids like their own. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

We know a lot of the other familys now that they been in the system for so long. So its a comfort thing. There is a new big gym lovingly called "The Deuce" because it is the second version of the bldg. Not cause it looks like a deuce. Like most private schools, it is busting at the seams with attendance. Every year the classes get bigger and the parking and pick up and drop off get crazier. This school's big fund raiser event is called Cajun Fest. Like other schools fairs, they will have a few local favorites like Chee Wees or Molly Ringwalds or Amanda Shaw along with the in-school in-parish band. Then there is all the cookie dough sales, the Worlds Finest Chocolate sale, endless Weekly Reader book fairs and something else I cant remember. Only thing they haven't done that I used to sell was fruit cakes. I actually liked them. But I digress. This school isn't really any better than others I have seen in the same grades, what I am paying for is better parents. Not teachers. Parents. Parent teacher nights here are waiting in line outside the classroom , parking lots are full. Parent teacher nights at a equivalent public school, those are typically empty. Better parents mean better students. Teachers are not supposed to raise your kids, only teach. That is why I break off $800 in my butt every month to ensure they get the best education without distraction, without fear of a crazy pajama wearing momma come in shooting because the teacher sent a note home that her child should take a bath and brush her teeth one day. I do enjoy this school and attending the church and all events like the annual fish fry during lent. Its a great opportunity to reconnect with those we only see in the gym and dropping off in the car pool line. All the teachers and the principal are very nice and somehow, know each of the students name. I seen it and I don't know how they do it. They do care here.

So far My son and I are loving this school. I'm going to start off with the Cons because I honestly…read moredon't have many. The neighborhood that the school is in has terrible roads. Most of the houses in the immediate area are French Style New Orleans homes so it's really cute. Just be aware that if you drive a couple blocks down in the wrong direction the roads will start tearing apart and scenery will change. I've told a few people my son will be attending this school and most ppl applaud the news. I hear great feedback from other parents of a mix of different races and I've only heard good things about them. During orientation they stressed about how they are a school who welcomes families of different cultures and students who have differences. And I feel like they mean it. During orientation one of the teachers was giving a story about how much they care about their students and how racism is around us so much and the students who attend this school will learn how to accept one another and learn and understand the different cultures of different races and learn to love one another. The lady was in tears at the end of her speech and I just knew she meant every word of it. We did apply for a scholarship to attend the school, we applied rather early and we got in. They have an online system to pay for lunch, field trips, donations etc.. which I think is very organized. They do have a bus service for New Orleans parish residence, for Jefferson Parish, parents have to pay for bus service. Inside the school is very clean, everything looks fairly new, colorful, bright, and organized. I'm really picky so yes I looked around. The equipment in the cafeteria also looked fairly new and clean. They stress the importance of music, art, and physical education. Which most schools do not. Also they have a speech therapist at the school. Some people tried to discourage me from bringing my son to a language school when he has some catching up to do with his speech. It's amazing to see that he's not the only child who struggles with speech and they have professionals there to help regardless if he's learning one language or two. They also have after school programs like home work help if they stay in after school care, science club, and Soccer Shots. My son just started attending, we find out who our teacher is on Monday but I'm really excited, some say it may be challenging but we are ready for it.

Work that would have been an A plus at the regular school becomes a B- or lower. It takes a toll on mental health for sure because just imagine excelling at your old school but then it gets flipped upside down that quick. Quite pathetic.

I love Patrick Taylor!…read more Preface, my children are 1000X more intelligent than I am. I never got Bs much less A's ever. This is one of the rare schools in the NOLA area that consistently score A+ overall. To get here, the kids have to test in. That alone is scary intimidating for an adult, much less a 12yr old child. Basically the best of the best come here. Thankfully one of my girls (hopefully both) attends this school and it is by far the best decision her Mother and I have made. My children have attended private school their entire lives , not because the teachers are of better quality, or the school building is, but because the parents are more invested in their children's education. Better parents, better kids. In my opinion. Better kids means less disruption and other negative behaviors in school. Private schools don't need to keep bad kids in school because there is typically a waiting list to get in from parents that are fortunate enough to be able to afford the ski high tuition. Patrick Taylor Science and Technology Academy has the same parent student standards. There is no messing around here. The difference is that is is a public school. A school I am already paying for. Bonus! The school is definitely a newer building. My first impression was it reminded me of the Disney High School Musical school. Super modern, huge open spaces, oozing high tech everywhere. School spirit and art hanging. It kind of reminds me of my years in high school but without the danger and bullying. Oh and on that. All the kids here have a 3.5 minimum average. All of them are super smart. And I would say the majority, with all due respect, are nerds. Wonderful, beautiful , lovely nerds. There is pocket protectors all over the place. Thick glasses, slacks pulled up too high and raging acne and I don't see any kind of bullying, teasing or nothing. These children are awesome!! I try and make as many parent events as possible, talent shows, teacher meetings, lunch with Dads and all and I absolutely love this school and how the kids of all races and sizes interact with each other. I find my daughter excelling and growing academically and socially at an amazing pace. I cant help her with her homework anymore. They are advanced big time. The children that graduate from here, ALWAYS get a Taylor grant. I know a child graduating this year and will attend Loyola ...full ride. That's what they do at this school. Set kids up for success. Not for the stupid annual year end testing. If you have the means , and maybe even think your child is smart, test in here or a sister A+ school.
