They are very flexible with drop-off and pick-up times, and have before-care and after-care at no additional cost. Spanish lessons start at age 1. The rooms are clean, they have structured days, and an excellent child-to-teacher ratio. Safe sleep environment for infants. Cons: I know from a former teacher that they don't pay their teachers a living wage, which must affect morale and how they show up to work. The teachers all seemed burnt out and scared. None of them talked to us, nor did it seem the administration wanted them to talk to us. Also heard from previous staff they have in the past (not sure about currently) been discriminatory towards non-Catholic students, i.e. not providing them with needed occupational or speech therapy. (Illegal) The days are structured, but are they too structured? These are babies. They start wearing uniforms at age 1, which I thought was hilarious. So do they need 20 uniforms for a week for how many changes of clothes they go through? No diversity among the preschool population. Almost exclusively white. The food included for ages 2 and up was catered and all came in styrofoam containers. The thought of this kind of waste and environmental damage is unfathomable. He absolutely loves Amigo Ames and looks forward to going to school everyday. The staff is very friendly, and they follow a curriculum so your child actually learns something. After the morning "class" they have lunch and get to play outside. Not only am I paying $100 less in tuition a month than what I would at his previous daycare, but I also paid $10 less for each of his uniform shirts. He's very happy w/ the change and the only thing I wish is that I would have enrolled him here from the beginning instead of making a switch so far into the "school" year.

I have an ongoing relationship with this daycare center. My children attended this school over 5…read moreyears ago and I was pleased then, although I had concerns about the required fundraisers that each child was responsible for. At that time, I thought was unfair, and unnecessary, but complied. Nevertheless, I enrolled my smaller children recently and I can see where the fundraisers have benefitted the school. Their academic program goes to the 5th grade, when I took my children out of the center, they were beginning the kindergarten program, so each year since, they have increased a grade. This is a family owned business and operates like a well-oiled machine. The daycare center is clean, my children are learning and have been there for 3 months now. My 3 year old has learned to recognize mostly all of his alphabet, write his name as well as recognize several sight words. My 2 year old knows all of her alphabet and counts to 20, and can sing several classic lullabies. The owners are on the facility daily and parents are able to speak with them randomly. They have an open door policy and are rated 5 star with the state. They recently expanded classrooms to implement a new program and construction was done over a weekend to 6 classrooms. Impressive! For the upcoming new school year they freshly painted and updated all classrooms. I love Mcmillan and am happy my children are in attendance here. The main thing that I am impressed with is that over 6 of the teachers that were employed there 5 years ago, when my older kids were there, are still there. I think that says a lot about management, especially since we live in a society where good work ethic is hard to find. I know that they will continue to expand and set a fine example within our community to offer excellent quality care and education for our youth. Thank you McMillian.

During the first child's time, there were bullying incidents and understaffing leading to abuse. I saw a teacher assistant slam my daughter to the ground aggressively. My child suffered emotional distress that we still deal with. The final incident was starving my baby who started at a chunky 35 pounds and lost weight over a month due to inadequate meals and fluids despite their claims. I noticed when her clothes started to off and her bones were becoming visible. They harmed my child causing food insecurity. I have an active CPS case and a state citation. Please for the Love of God choose another daycare. They are not the best in Chalmette!!!
