Hubby & I were here to see Tina the musical. I remember now why I don't like this theatre. It's gone through several name changes. It used to be called The Pantages theatre when I first saw the Phantom of the Opera here. It's pretty but it's not practical. The lounge area outside of the theatre seating area is too small to handle all the people when seats are sold out. Also there isn't enough washrooms for the women & even the men have lineups. During intermission it's a mad dash to get to the washroom so you don't have to stand in line. The acoustics of the theatre are great. The seats though are narrow. I was elbowed by the lady sitting beside me because we were so close. I also had the bad luck of having two tall ladies sit in front of me & hubby. They had large hairdo's too so it obstructed our view a lot. I was leaning from one side to the other to be able to see the stage. I don't think I'll come back to this theatre if I can help it. It's in a great location (across from the Eaton's Centre) but it's such a pain. We ended up leaving about 5 minutes before the musical was over just to be able to use the washrooms & get out of the theatre in a reasonable time frame. I have no doubt that if we had waited until the musical was done we probably would have been in the washroom lineup for at least 20 minutes if not more.

Ever since they upgraded the theatre for The Cursed Child, it's been so much more memorable! Beautiful navy blues with gold accents throughout, it really captures the magic of theatre in a classy way. I love the popcorn and it's decently priced around $6-7 dollars for a box. Seats are comfortable with good acoustics. I usually sit in the orchestra section in the section without a balcony over so I can see the full stage & ceiling props (you never know if there's a scene when something "falls" down). I also watched Mamma Mia! Wheelchair accessible- there's a chairlift at the Victoria Street entrance and designated washrooms.

I came to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and it exceeded my expectations! The theatre had been closed for months and months specifically for renovations to be able to put on this show and the little details really showed. From the moment i walked in everything was Harry Potter themed and there were many different photo opportunities. The staff there were all very nice and professional. At intermission there was staff in the bathroom directing traffic and showing people to empty stalls to keep everyone moving. Definitely go see a show there if you haven't! Right in the heart of downtown. The only negative was that the seats were not super comfortable.

I went to the Ed Mirvish Theatre with my wife on 08 December 2022 to watch the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play, and all I can say was WOW. When you walk in, you're greeted with a very clean and picturesque hall, where you can take pictures of all-things-Harry-Potter. From the wall lanterns that are in the shape of dragons, to the flags of the different Hogwarts Houses. You can also buy various items from Harry Potter -- wands, plushies, shirts, books are all on sale. You can even buy foods from Harry Potter!

My wife and I went to see Chicago and the show itself was fantastic. It's been running for a long time around the world and if you haven't seen it and you like Music and I however, recommend it. We were sitting in the orchestra section a little bit back, because I had bought the tickets a little bit late in the game. Everything was great until age gigantic man sat in front of my wife and blocked her entire view. We decided to switch and I too was completely blocked , I went to the hostess and they did an amazing job of getting us a couple of seats brought in as the show was sold out. So that was kind of a funny, but resourceful way to allow us to enjoy the show.

I came here for Harry Potter & the Cursed Child and was so impressed with the cast, special effects and set design! It was absolutely perfect! The theatre itself was gorgeous and also decorated with the Harry Potter theme in mind. As a huge potterhead, I was like a kid in a candy store the entire time. The lobby is small though in comparison to the large amount of people that can be seated and there's only one washroom so intermission was a nightmare of long lines. The staff did their best though and they even had a worker in the washroom helping move the line along and point out empty stalls. They only do snacks and drinks so make sure you have a full meal before your show unless you're okay with eating small boxes of popcorn. I do appreciate them having themed snacks and drinks as well like chocolate frogs and butter beer!

Great Theater, well run and managed. Special effects were wonderful. We saw Harry Potter and the cursed child. First time at this downtown Toronto theater. Magnificent interior, sweeping, staircases, domed ceiling, old world charm with high technology. Not a bad seat in the house. Decent acoustics. Long lines for the bathrooms during intermission, but you get that everywhere. They do allow eating inside the theater, which could be distracting with all the crackling bags, but all in all a great theater experience.

I was having SO much trouble picking the seats I wanted for this theatre. So I would like to give some tips on where to sit. After doing some research, I ended up picking Orchestra Row B Seat 34&35. We went to watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the play was great! Our seats were close enough to see the actors but not too close that you would hurt your neck looking up the entire time. I think getting tickets a few rows back would suffice as well. This play had some components where the entire theatre was used so balcony view at the front would have been a good choice as well. Overall the play was amazing! Would definitely come back to watch something else.

I came here for the performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The theatre itself was located in a very convenient location right near Eaton. The whole place was decked out for Harry Potter and I absolutely loved it! The place had an old school elegant feel that transports you away from the city. It was quite packed though and I thought that there could be more signs to help navigate. I had to ask multiple people where coat check was and the lines for the washrooms were disorganized, though I recommend going before the show if possible as it gets worst during intermission. Overall, a wonderful theatre and I can't wait to go back and watch more performances.

This is a beautiful building. You can tell the place is well kept up and preserved. We came here to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. They had different things decorating the lobby for us to enjoy before the show and had a few different merchandise stands as well. For how old the building was, I was not sure if they could pull off the special effects and still protect the building. It was amazing! I still am not sure how they did it all. The tickets we bought claimed that some views may be blocked, but I feel we saw everything! I would definitely see another show here!

I went to see Wicked with my mom the other night. We picked up our tickets at will call on Victoria street. There seemed to be less people at the Victoria street entrance than Yonge street. There was a vendor for merchandise and a few places where you could purchase a beverage and snacks inside. Our seats were on the mezzanine level which meant another set of stairs up. Row V is almost at the back of the venue. Once everyone was in their seats it wasn't the easiest to see the actors if they were at the very front of the stage. I had to move up in my seat and sit up straight to see over/around the heads in front of me. While looking around during intermission I saw the row of seats at the very back. They were chairs raised high. If that provides a better view I may choose those seats next time. It didn't take too long for everyone to file out of the venue when the musical was over. I'd definitely go back for another musical. Being right across from Eaton Centre and so close to Union station as well as Dundas station is a plus for commuting from the suburbs. The plethora of restaurants around provide plenty of dining options.

    The Hamilton stage.

First time coming to this theatre and I was totally surprised how big the venue was from just viewing the front entrance. It's a beautiful space for a theatre show and there doesn't seem to be a bad viewing angle in the house. How do i know this? Well I went to see the musical Hamilton but I was up in the mezzanine in row O which is about 10 rows from the very back of the theatre.I still had a great viewing angle of the stage. During the intermission, I took a little walk around to observe the other viewing angles of the theatre. The sound acoustics are very very solid in here.A tip I learned by accident, try to exit onto Victoria St as there is usually a gate that is blocked off so the theatre actors can come out for pictures, autographs, and praise from the fans. :-)

I was inside FSC on March 29, when it cancelled the first Shen Yun show, citing an bomb threat that Toronto Police shortly confirmed on site as a hoax. Then after I changed my tickets to April 5 show, I was again informed by the presenter that FSC unilaterally cancel all 5 remaining shows citing new threats which again police deemed as "unfounded" threat according to CP24 and other media. Here I need to tell you some background. I'm a big fan of Shen Yun Performing Arts and has been enjoying the show every year when it comes to Toronto. I know that Shen Yun has been a target by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because the show portraits a China before Communism and the artists practice a persecuted spiritual discipline called Falun Gong! One of the most used tactics that the CCP attempts to stop Shen Yun from being seen is to send FAKE bomb threats to the show presenters or theatres. There have been about 200 such incidents globally according to Shen Yun's website. But not a single time had a Shen Yun show been cancelled until the one I went to see at the FSC. It's really nonsense and unprofessional. Further more, you know what? The same day when FSC cancelled Shen Yun shows, our Canadian minister led a business delegate arriving in Beijing ready to strengthening financial ties with China. Among the delegate was FSC owner Canada Opera Company (COC)'s sponsor BMO. COC general director, the person who gave the directive of cancellation of Shen Yun, has a long-time relationship with the Chinese government. The vice-chair of the COC board serves at a Canadian company that has four decades of deep relationship with China and was praised by the Chinese leader. As a Chinese Canadian immigrated from China, it's clear to me that these are not just coincident. That's why I'm deeply concerned that a hostile foreign government, the CCP, can suffocate our artistic freedom so easily with ZERO cost yet our Canadian institutions gave up our principles so easily!

As someone from out of town who enjoys theatre, I visit Toronto often to see relatives, and when I…read moredo, I always look to see what Mirvish productions are showing downtown. For some reason, I always seem to be drawn to the Royal Alexandra Theatre as four different productions I have seen in the last few years have all been there. From the physical layout of the theatre to the customer service of the staff, I have enjoyed my all around experience during each visit. I have been to the theatre with colleagues during a conference, with my sister, and with other family members over the last several years. I have sat in the balcony, front couple of rows, and further back in orchestra before, and every seat seems to be good. I often take advantage of the American Express reserved seat program to purchase a great seat not too far in advance once I have details of my travels. I have been completely satisfied with my experiences at the shows there! The Royal Alexandra Theatre is a Canadian historic landmark as the oldest continuously operating legitimate theatre in North America and the continent's first truly "royal" theatre, granted official letters patent by Edward VII entitling it to the royal designation, along with his permission to name it after his consort, Alexandra. It was built in 1907 and was Toronto's first steel-framed structure, one of the first air-conditioned buildings in the continent, and the first theatre to be considered fireproof. The Royal Alexandra Theatre is one of four theatres that is run by Mirvish. The facility is mask-friendly but by no means required. There are concessions and a coat check. It is generally accepted to arrive approximately 30 minutes before a show. If you arrive late, you may need to wait until an appropriate break in the show for you to go to your seat and not disturb other patrons. Mirvish Productions is Canada's largest commercial theatre production company. You can learn more about Mirvish and this theatre at https://www.mirvish.com. After all, it was Ed Mirvish who in 1963 purchased and saved the Royal Alexandra Theatre from demolition. I certainly recommend a Mirvish show in the Royal Alexandra Theatre for someone who enjoys theatre!

We arrived about half an hour early after stopping at Lake Effect for scoops. Who needs dinner and a show when tummy ice cream is involved? The theater also sells snacks as food and drinks from the outside are banned. We were greeted outside by a dapper gentleman who held the door for us to get into the lobby. Unlike other theaters, there was elbow room to have them check out printed tickets and make conversation about the show. Others had digital tickets that seemed to work as well. We popped into the loo, which thankfully had multiple stalls, hardly any wait and was fully stocked with soap and towels. There were people selling souvenir toys and raffle tickets that we bypassed to find our seats. The playbill girl gave us a rough estimate of where we would be located. Thankfully everything is clearly labeled as to not get lost. For a mere 40 each, after fees, we were five rows back, centered. The view was clear, the sound was clear and the leg room- my gosh. For the first time in a long time a theater had room for me to stretch my legs a bit instead of cramming in more seats. The view is historically gorgeous in architecture and paint. Though we were there to experience the show, not just a building. The show started on time, held a brief intermission and concluded in about two hours. During that time, we got wowed by talented singers, very acrobatic dancers and mostly talented actors. (There was one that we would have probably chosen a different person to portray the roll, but I'm not going to crush a child's dreams when they did adequately. And others filled their rolls amazingly so I'm chalking it up to personal preference.) The costumes are well constructed without being extravagant. Tiny shorts cover any areas that would make this child friendly show receive an R rating. At the end, after all the standing ovations, we were able to exit with ease and get back to the car, parked at no cost in a nearby lot. Beat that Buffalo parking. Extra shout-out to whoever put the dual drummers in the loge to let us see the masterminds at work. They were the heartbeat of the show for me!

After pouring myself a glass of water, I went to the salad bar and basically picked a bit of whatever I saw. I was in new territory here... As in I saw a white onion and said "lychee!" and the customer in front of me corrected me that it was in fact, not lychee. I returned to my seat and enjoyed my salad. I noticed a line was forming for the buffet. This is apparently an old style buffet when you leave your seat to wait in line to be served. I've never encountered a buffet like this...usually I go to self-serve buffets. Anyway, I waited about 10 minutes when there were about 10 people in front of me. I think their menu changes from time to time, but boyyyy their raviolli was SO GOOD. I went back for seconds...and thirds. Their chicken was also very juicy. Everything else was above average. I just wanted to note the standout is definitely the ravioli. Get ittt. You also have your pick at unlimited dessert, which is a slice of pie or cake. The only con during my buffet experience is that I had to wait in line...too used to the grab n' go self-serve experience! You know dinner is about to end when the man playing the guitar starts singing. That gives you about 10-15 mins to finish your dinner or grab more food to finish. Once he's done, he'll tell you to make your way upstairs. Once upstairs, your group is assigned seats at random. Their staff member will tell you where you are. Once everyone was seated, the lights dimmed, and the play began. We watched Sylvia, which wasn't my cup of tea. I didn't enjoy it as much as my partner's parents did, but I can appreciate the story, acting, and overall effort the crew and cast put into the performance. Overall, I got a very "homey" experience here, despite coming here for the first time.
