I chose The Cabin as a place for our company Christmas dinner. What a great choice! The selections were great and the food came out quickly even though we had a large party. Lots of yummy appetizers, the the entrees ranged from burgers, to pasta, to steaks. Our group had plenty of selections to keep everyone happy. Even though we ate too much and couldn't quite do dessert they look to be amazing as well. There was live entertainment that really added to our evening. We had a request for a specialty drink and the bartender followed my directions to a tee for the perfect drink! Great spot between Cleveland and Columbus. Met up here for dinner and it was very good overall, both service and food. Arrived early at 5p. Venue didn't seem to come alive till 6ish as they open at 430p. Live band/singer started at 630ish with smooth tunes. Service was prompt and attentive the entire night. - A. Had the Monterey chicken via the extensive ' specials' menu and it did not disappoint. The Hawaiian burger was also chosen in our party which received great reviews and was cooked to order. Both solid B+ Wine selection appeared to be nice however I'm more of a beer guy. Had a few regional crafts on tap - opted for the GL Christmas Ale which is always great. Overall a solid place. Food. We decided to go to the Cabin this evening for a special dinner and it was everything but!! Nowhere on the website does it say reservation only, just a small sign on the door after we'd arrived. The hostess asked if we had a res and we said no, we didn't now we needed one. After walking back an forth a few times she very rudely said we'd have to wait and see if any of the servers wanted to take us because they we're so busy. There wasn't a single table being used in the dining room and only one on the patio. We will never be back!! read more

We decided to try The Cabin again after a few years and a few not good experiences. We love the atmosphere, log cabin, and really missed the ambiance. We had reservations at 6:30. We arrived about 10 minutes early and the lobby was full. It was super busy because it was Valentine's Day. We were seated promptly at 6:30. Our waitress was super friendly and very attentive. They had a special menu and we both had fabulous meals. Filet was cooked perfectly and very tasty. I had chicken that was coated in parmesan and served over risotto which was super creamy and tasty. They had a rose and candles on every tables. Prices were average for our upscale meals. Beautiful setting and fabulous food. We will be back. read more

I work for a company that provides services for clients. Needless to say, I get to take clients out for dinner at times. I've discovered the Ashland area doesn't have many options for fancier dining locations. We decided to give The Cabin a try, plus it's close to my house - bonus. It's a large place that has a banquet facility, actual cabins, and then a nice dining area with a deck and bar. It's semi formal with white linen and wine menu - fancy. It is located out in BFE - and phone service is totally sketch out there (I have two phones, and neither had service), so know where you are going before you take off and rely on your GPS. The service was terrific! Our waitress was uber nice and knowledgable - she did a great job of recommending starters. We opted for the bruschetta as we had four people total. It was really delicious, although it was heavy with cheese. The gentlemen I was with ordered wine. They brought it out and did the whole open, air, and sample thing (obviously I know nothing of wine lol). I ordered a drink special that was a girly martini-esque drink which was delicious! For main course I got lake perch and a side salad, another got a steak and then pasta. The steak looked delicious! My perch was adequate (fried fish, can't mess it up too bad). Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience and tasty food. It wasn't mind-blowing, but a nice change of pace and great atmosphere. read more

First off...we made reservations that were cancelled because we showed up 3 minutes before our time. We literally had to beg to get someone to attended our table. Appetizers were fine. Our food arrived at room temperature and mine didn't arrive at all. After waiting 10 minutes and asking twice the final entree arrived which was lukewarm and rubbery (lobster tail). We STILL waited 10 minutes for the waiter to bring the condiments for the orders on the table! My guests complained and the manger apologized and gave us gift cards which we never plan on using. One thing I can't stand is paying high prices and getting food that's just as good as Taco Bell. We'd planned for weeks on having a good time and a good meal with friends and this place REALLY failed to deliver. read more

This is our go to restaurant! They used to have horrible service but must be working hard to make sure it doesn't get that way again. If you had a bad experience there, you should definitely give them another try. The Bourbon Street Pasta is awesome, as is the Margarita Jalapeño Chicken. The pasta is made with super tender beef sirloin tips and spicy Andoille sausage in a cream sauce with a kick. The Seafood Collage is always on the list of specials, and my husband loves that too. We enjoy sitting in the indoor sun room space with a view of the rural landscape. So many restaurants are dark and gloomy, and the atmosphere at The Cabin is a refreshing change. read more

Ordered a wedge salad (mediocre) and two small plates, pierogies and grilled shrimp/steak kabob. I was expecting HOMEMADE pierogies, not frozen from the box Mrs. T's and this was exactly was these were. How disappointing. I almost laughed out loud when the waitress put them on the table. I guess they think they can hide frozen food w/ some parsley on top of it. The grilled shrimp/steak combo was ok, but overkill on the cajun seasoning on the shrimp. Went here with my sister for her birthday. Brussel Sprouts were dry and needed more balsamic vinegar and blue cheese. Should have known it was bad when we were charged for a butter and sour cream to put on an otherwise plain baked potato,which had to be sent back, cold and uncooked. I just went to this place a few days ago for the first time. I was with my group of boys that I look after along with a coworker. My coworker said they have updated their menu and hired a new chef since she's been there last (about 2 years ago). The facilities are beautiful! Cloth napkins, wine glasses set on the table, and a professional staff. Our waiter referred to the boys as "sir" which they got a kick out of. Our boys aren't used to such a place! The food selection was varied. They offered a wide variety of food for the kids and smaller portion entrees that cost about $8. The kids got steak on a stick and loved it. My coworker got lobster tacos and enjoyed them. I got kobe and mushroom risotto. It was ok. If I were to rate my meal, it'd be a 3/5. The first piece I ate was a bad cut, and I struggled to chew it. The flavor of the beef was great, but the risotto was only so-so. The atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner, and the space is large and nice enough for catered events. read more

We used The Cabin to cater our wedding reception in Mansfield and while the planning process was uneventful (we had a lovely tasting), There were (3) main issues that made using this company hugely stressful. 1) They changed menus and pricing after our menu was set, just weeks before the wedding and tried to tell us we had to pay the new prices - we argued this point and eventually were forced to compromise and pay more than agreed upon or lose our caterer. 2) The menu items we tasted and agreed upon varied from what was served. Not big variances, but enough to make a difference (IE, we ordered green beans with almonds, and they serves a mixed vegetable medley which included onions, and as the bride, I HATE ONIONS! We also ordered white cheddar mashed potatoes which were piped out for the tasting and had a fantastic presentation - our guests were served lumpy yellow cheddar potatoes) Short story - the tasting food was lovely, but DO NOT trust this is what you will get at your actual event. 3) The service at the event was sub par. The staff rushed guests through each course and were clearing things that were still needed. The whole night it was very apparent they just wanted to rush through so they could pack up and leave. The main point of contact was also less than professional and very snarky when trying to discuss issues and disappointments with the experience. If you are looking for a professional caterer who delivers on what they promise, steer clear. read more

My husband and I attended their bourbon, beer, and wine event a few weeks ago and had a great time, enjoying the food pairing buffet immensely. All of the items were delicious and our server was wonderful. With that in mind I called and made reservations for us and our daughter for their Saint Patrick's Day buffet. On arrival the server was directed to show us to a table identified to her by a woman I believe to be the manager. The table was located in the far corner of the dining room with the 3 prepared seats facing away from the dining room and toward the wall (which was about 2 feet from the table). While the tables were decorated with a variety of St. Paddy's "bling", our reserved table for 3 had only 2 items while I noted other tables had multiple pins, buttons, etc. Our server was nice, but according to our bill at least, we did not receive the beers we ordered. The food this time was also disappointing: the shepherd pie had gristly meat, the colcannon was not hot, and the other items were just not the high quality I was expecting after our first visit. At $17 a person it was a big disappointment. I'm not sure we will ever be willing to make the 30 minute drive to try them again. The only reason I even can give them 2 stars is based on our 1st visit. read more

I recently ate here with family and friend, and we all were well-pleased with our meals. First of all, I was surprised to see such a creative menu for a place in such a rural area that calls itself The Cabin Tavern. Additionally, the view is delightful. I was seated where I got to take full advantage of that view. Yay! It was clean and more formal than the word "cabin" suggests, but it was a very cozy dining experience. We all liked the upscaled atmosphere. There were so many tasty-sounding menu options that it was hard for me to choose! I opted for a California Chicken Salad after my French onion soup. The salad was fresh and crisp, with an excellent combination of favors and textures, and it was truly delish. I ate lots of their very tasty breads, with real butter. Loved it. Others had steak or seafood, and one said his steak was maybe the best steak he'd ever had. Those who had the scallops and lobster tail special said they were excellent. The food was excellent quality, well-prepared, perfectly seasoned, and nicely presented. The menu offers plenty of options for diners, and they also include a small plates section for those who may have smaller appetites. They seem to have an excellent chef who is creative and who gives local diners a chance to step out of their comfort zone, but not into the ozone. Bravo! They also have excellent desserts! I had an excellent creme brûlée. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I hope I get a chance to dine here again when I return to the area. I highly recommend this place. After less than an hour, while my grandmother and daughter were still finishing their meal, we were told that our table was needed and we would have to leave. I have to write an update to my last visit as The Cabin deserves another star. We started at the bar for a cocktail as we were a bit early for dinner. The wine selection by the glass is pretty good. This time we dined outside as the weather was nice. It was very pleasant although a slight bit of noise from the road. We had to have the bacon wrapped scallops again. The jalapeno corn cream that tops them is just THAT good! My husband and I shared the baby field greens. The toasted goat cheese was so creamy and tasted so good with the herb vinaigrette, roasted pecans and cranberries. This time I tried the Bourbon Street Pasta that I wanted to try last time. It was creamy and just a touch spicy with the Andouille sausage. There were also bits of tenderloin, asparagus and onion. It was delicious! My husband ordered the Lake Erie perch. The server made sure to let us know the fish was farm raised. It was crispy and light and served with a mountain of crispy delicious French fries as well as slaw and hush puppies. Service was great again, both at the bar and our table outside. read more

Group of 5 for dinner, mixed review. I had the onion soup, nothing special, followed by pecan crusted chicken salad. The chicken strips atop the salad were over cooked, rather tough. The fresh lettuce was nice and crisp, hard to find the promised pieces of blue cheese. Unfortunately a long hair in the salad that I pulled from mouth during dinner ended the best part of my meal. Other folks at the table enjoyed- seafood fondu ("very good"), veal pasta ("tasty and good"), Cod (" its OK"), Clam Bake special ( "so so, clams flavorless, asparagus over cooked, chicken dry overcooked, clam chowder good"). Desserts ordered by two at the table were a chocolate mouse type cake ( "good"), and bananas foster ( "I like it"). The bread is a variety of sourdough that is like toast when served and then some slices of multi-grain that were soft and almost warm. Service was good, our waitress quickly brought out the asparagus that the kitchen forgot to replace potatoes for and took half the price of the hairy salad off the bill. Nice wine selection. Good atmosphere for visiting. Family friendly. This may be a long way to drive for just so-so food. I recommend Malabar Farm Inn and Skyway East over this place, both within a few miles. read more

My husband and I had heard this was a nice place to eat. We were celebrating a special occasion and decided to give this place a try. We were dressed up and were surprised to see people wearing ball caps and jogging pants! We were seated and were upset when about 5 minutes later they sat a screaming baby at the table next to us. We had to wait several minutes before our server came over and took our drink order. My husband ordered the perch sandwich which was more like a giant glob of tarter sauce on a bun and I ordered the flat bread pizza which was literally about 6 bites. The pizza had no taste at all. I had heard good things about the cabin and decided to take my wife, son and family for a special dinner because of two anniversaries and a birthday. Bottom line: I was embarrassed. Just a few points: 1. Despite our requests for quick food for our hungry grand kids, hot dogs and pasta took 45 minutes. 2. Our waitress was like a fish out of water. One of several examples occurred when she brought us our white wine (before dinner) and placed it on top - not in, but on top - of the completely filled ice bucket. She knew little about the menu, nothing about wines or beers. We also ordered a bottle of red with our meals and of course she brought the wrong wine. 3. Her inexperience could have been tolerated (it was fairly entertaining) if the food had been prepared in a reasonable amount of time and was at least mediocre in quality. Unfortunately, neither was true. I have to praise our otherwise inept waitress for trying to keep our spirits up during the hour wait for entrees on a night that the restaurant was not busy 4. My bill for D+ food and failing service was $250. We won't be back. read more

My nephew got married last month and The Cabin did the catering. It was a very small wedding. There was a variety of food, and all of it was really good! The Cabin is close to our home in a fabulous setting and offers a beautiful and well-priced menu. Our visit was my husband's 7th and my first. Sadly, it took 35 minutes to receive our 'gourmet burgers'. We had convinced ourselves that the wait would be worth it. Sadly, our medium rare burgers came out well done...completely unacceptable! My hubby and I agree that the ONE waitress on staff was great, but take issue with management for both front and back of house failures. Not that we asked (or expected) to be comped, we were offered ONE dessert for our disappointment!??? I must admit that SMALL slice of Key Lime Pie WAS delicious! To add insult to injury, when I reconciled my checking account a few days later, The Cabin had 'stiffed' the waitress out of the tip we had left her!!
