"Outstanding School of the Year" out of 200 Cadence Education schools nationwide!
    Rica C.

Gosh, where do I start :-) Sunshine has been an absolute BLESSING to our family! Not enough words can express how SINCERELY loving, caring, professional, and competent the administration and teachers are at this wonderful school. Ryan, Taylor, the teachers, the counselors...they all collectively make this school top-notch! You can honestly feel the hard work and teamwork that everyone puts in to make this preschool the best it can be and exceed parents' expectations. And like in any organization, it is the tone set at the top. Ryan and Taylor set this tone CONSISTENTLY with smiles on their faces each and every day as you walk into Sunshine. Everyone up front knows each and every child's name :-) This is my 5 year old son's second year at Sunshine and I have to repeat again what a blessing each and every day has been for our family. My husband and I are both full-time working professionals who commute to Downtown LA and Ventura, and it is EXTREMELY important for us that our son is in the best possible care while we are at work miles away. Sunshine has delivered 1000%!!! From the first day, I have never ever felt doubt or reservation because everyone there has PROVEN themselves to us. I would consider myself a friendly, happy, and easy-going person but when it comes to my kids, I am painstakingly fastidious, discerning, and very selective. Mommy boxing gloves come out. So my LOVE for Sunshine speaks volumes! My 2.5 year old daughter will be starting Sunshine in June this year, and I can't wait for her to join this AMAZING institution, almost perfect in every way a preschool can be, in my opinion. Like I always tell people...it's the best preschool in town, hands down! We are so PROUD to be part of the Sunshine family!

My older loves animals, insects, and other non-human creatures so this place seemed perfect. We had been many years ago with our littles and they distinctly remember a giraffe so we figured their cousins would enjoy the experience too. We arrived at around 11 am on a Monday morning and found parking relatively easy- I think we were one of two families there which made it easy. There is a very small parking lot just outside the entrance and street parking. We entered through a really fun gift shop and made our way in. They have many exhibits of foxes, monkeys, birds, reptiles, and other small-to-medium sized animals to learn about. Each exhibit provided a learning display. We made our way through the "center" in just under two hours- really taking out time at each exhibit. Wr only noticed a couple of other families with littles as well, making it super easy to move through. While we say snakes foxes parrots and more, we don't see the giraffe . We did learn while we were there though that the giraffe was just visiting as it was being trained by the nextdoor business for television!!! Apparently that's a thing. Love L.A.! Ideal place for little kids! They have space for private parties, benches to enjoy a packed lunch (byobag situation), and a theater-education space where I believe they have events/activities, although we didn't see any. Since there was no availability in the appropriate level for my child I submitted a request for a refund. After a few weeks of continuously emailing and calling someone got back to me to confirm I'd like to cancel and get a refund. I was then told they would keep $42 in holds I had placed "which you can use any time in the future" and then there is a 6% processing fee for the refund IF it was approved. Weird business practice but whatever, fine, I just want my refund. Then they told me what my refund amount would be and it was wildly incorrect. So I corrected them and still haven't heard back. It's been about a month now, and I still don't have a refund or any communication despite my multiple attempts of contacting them. The instructor we had for our one lesson was fantastic but the management and administration is horrible. I'm sure they'll say "this is our busy season" well, then employ an office manager. So at this time I will say I would not recommend them, based off their business practices and lack of management.

He loved the variety of activities and made so many new friends. He came home with fun stories each day. I loved that they offered a variety of options from 2 days/week to 5 days. We returned last summer and an unexpected and sudden medical event threw our summer for a loop. They were beyond kind and accommodating. Michael, the owner, personally made sure we were taken care of at a very scary time and was just incredibly kind and communicative. I can't thank him and his staff enough for the support. I would recommend this camp for any family. Its like a classic, old-school summer day camp experience!

My son attended Adventurewood camp for the first time this week. For the most part he enjoyed…read morehimself -- particularly the characters they introduce throughout the week. However, we decided to pull him out for next week because of a very disturbing situation. He shared that a counselor had pushed him with both hands on his shoulders during a capture the flag activity. He had dropped his flag and was putting it back on when a counselor (he didn't know her name) pushed him back hard enough to make him lose his balance and fall. She also barked "you need to reset!" She didn't ask if he was ok or help him up. You'd think if this was an accidental push and he fell over she would say something like "sorry bud are you ok? Here let me help you up" but nope, not a word. A friend he's attending camp with witnessed the whole incident. Since I pick them both up in the afternoons they both recounted this situation to me and both of them noted how inappropriate her behavior was. I immediately reached out to Michael, the owner of the camp. He said he wanted to identify this counselor and get her side of the story. Understandable. My son felt uncomfortable going back the next day but I reassured him it would be handled and offered to drop him off in the morning and stick around to talk to Michael and the counselor. I wanted him to feel safe. Michael identified her (her name is Carson) and said he wanted to talk to her first, which he did a few feet away from me. I heard her say she didn't push him. They then walked over to me and she again denied everything. So we asked both kids to come over and recount what happened. They both did -- in front of her -- and reiterated she pushed him. She denied even touching him. So Michael suggests at this point that perhaps it was an accident and my son responds by saying "how do you push someone like that by accident?!" No response. So I ask her, are you saying these kids are lying? She again said she didn't touch him and at this point we send the kids away. I'm incensed because not only does she gaslight both of them to their face but tells this bold faced lie to her boss in front of the campers and me. I tell her I believe them and I think she's the one lying. At this point she gives me this dirty look - angry, irritated and almost rolls her eyes at me. I turn to Michael and say "and now she's giving ME an attitude?!" Unbelievable. In a follow up call, he tells me how good of a person she is and that this is shocking for him to hear but that she doesn't seem like someone who would do something like this...that she's getting her teacher credentials and he knows her really well. I am getting the vibe he doesn't actually believe any of this and he sounds very skeptical. I respond by telling him that it's almost always surprising when people exhibit bad behavior and that even teachers do bad things...that doesn't make her any more credible in my eyes. He acknowledged that. In fact, it's worse because I would be really concerned to have someone like that teaching a kid. Lack of empathy, accountability, and integrity. I mean, I think it's great he's trying to have her back but there are moments in life when you need to draw a line and act swiftly...these are one of those moments. Because ultimately, this impacts the reputation of your camp. I told him that it would be good to offer training to his staff in case this ever happens again in the future and honestly he sounded baffled and asked me to clarify...I said well maybe tell your staff not to give dirty looks to a mom who's clearly upset that her son just got pushed by a grown adult at summer camp?? I told him that the response to this situation could've resulted in a totally different outcome. Had she said something like "I really don't recall pushing you but if I inadvertently did and made you feel bad I'm sorry - I didn't mean to do that" - I would've went home that morning feeling fine about the situation. When I told him this he said that he's not going to police all her reactions, that she's still young, that she's still learning and made all kinds of excuses for her. Exhausting. Apparently she got a "warning" and will sit out of the flag activity (umm, ok...). He seems like a smart guy and wish him nothing but success in the future and I was earnestly trying to offer advice for how to handle a situation like this better but it fell on deaf ears. I really hope that some kind of learning comes out of this for both of them. Oh and to top it off, my son's friend told her mom that Carson was giving her looks several times throughout the day today and when she asked what kind she said "side eye" looks. NOT COOL. My son also said she was kind of mean to him but wondering why they were even in close proximity when Michael said they'd absolutely be separated and would not see each other? Validates we both made the right choice by pulling them both out. He offered a refund but I'm still pissed about the situation.

Everyday they got off the bus so sweaty, and dirty, and tired but FULL of stories. They told stories about the activities, their counselors, what they ate for lunch, who bought up all the root beer at the camp store, the bracelets they earned at camp, and they sang me ALL the songs they learned at camp. My kids absolutely loved it. I utilized the bus drop off and pickup (included in the camp price) and found it SO easy and comfortable to drop them off at the bus and pick them up hours later. There were at least 3 counselors on the bus (in addition to a bus driver) and they sat with friends and sang their new songs on the way to camp. I always felt safe as they double checked the kids on and off the bus. During the day the kids rotated to different activities with their small group (maybe 10-12 kids + a counselor?). They did high ropes courses, archery, team building puzzles, swim, hammocks, trampolines, karaoke, zip line, a huge hanging swing thing (like the one you pay $30pp to do at Magic Mountain), crafts, and gaga ball. Then on certain days they had something "new" - my kids had a big inflatable waterslide one week and a foam party their second week. And then there's campers choice where they get to pick what they want to do. As others mentioned there's not tons of shade, but my kids never came home sunburned or complaining about the heat. The camp communicated regularly via their app and posted photos at the end of each day. I was impressed when there was a teeny tiny minor earthquake and they immediately sent out a message to us letting us know that everyone was safe and well. Same with all the summer fire updates letting us know of their plans and the air quality. Only minor complaint was the food. There was a menu for the whole summer (pizza, burgers, quesadillas, corn dogs, nuggets, bean and cheese burritos, orange chicken) It was really hit and miss for my kids - some days they loved it and other days they hated it. There's always a "picky eater" food option of buttered noodles. And apparently they encourage the whole table to drink all the water supplied before they can get more juice. And then once they finish that, more water before they get more juice, etc. So really encouraging the kids to stay hydrated which I loved. If you're thinking about it, I'd tour the camp in the new year (I think we toured in January and made our deposit right away to take advantage of early booking discounts). The tour was so informative and got the kids (and my husband and I) excited about camp. I wanted to go to camp after that tour! Every week is themed differently (apparently some kids go all summer), so if you want to pick a popular week, be sure to book early. My kids loved Color Games and Olympic Week. But there's also a Pokemon week and some other themes. My kids will for sure go back next year. It was PERFECT for my incoming 3rd grader this year and she'll probably have another 2 or 3 years to really enjoy it. My incoming 6th grader loved it, but as he gets older I worry about them not having as many kids his age as he enters 7th and 8th grade but I'll probably get at least one more summer out of it for him.

You will most likely feel like an outcast, if you insist on attending the school, there will be some good teaching and classes but there will be a tons of hypocrisy so you have to gird up and take it and constantly remind yourself why you are there and press on.
