The beer is very good, they started out with just 4 brews and a seasonal, and now they are up to about 6 and they always have a new one on rotation when we go. I was so locked in, in fact, that when the French waitress came over and asked what we wanted, I was beyond unprepared. I had just drank gallons of red wine in Croatia, and needed a day off from my beloved vino. There was a slight language barrier, so I didn't want to ask too much as I don't speak French and feel so disrespectful trying to have a long conversation in English in a foreign country. I asked if they had any tequila on the rocks, and she said "margarita?" "That sounds great," I responded. The last thing I wanted was a margarita, but sometimes you gotta put it on the game card. There I sat, drinking a sugary margarita on our first night in France, talking the night away. Everything was as it should be. I felt like Hemingway. Solid French restaurant near Sacre Coeur, 4 minutes walk from Abbesses metro station…read more The restaurant was recommended by an art gallery owner in Montmartre, where we had spent most of the late afternoon. We were seated a few minutes after we arrived at the only indoor table available. They had outdoor tables but we chose not to sit there because of all the smoking patrons. Once we had settled in, we took a look at the drinks and food menus, pleasantly surprised to find that they were in English. We ordered drinks and appetizers, plus one entrée to share. We were the only tourists there (all others were locals), but the servers were friendly and attentive and spoke excellent English. The drinks arrived quickly, and the food soon afterward. My wife loved her amaretto, and our daughter her Limonade. I happily sipped my Rebelle (wheat) beer as we shared the Camembert (perfectly baked), Guinea fowl stew with mashed potatoes (superb), and bone marrow (my favorite, but disliked by the missus and kids) family-style. The only dish I didn't get to try was the vegetable tart. We finished up with two delightful desserts - crème brûlée and chocolate mousse. Total bill was a little over €100. Bathrooms were adequate. Glad we came.

Since we like to live on the wild side, we showed up to the restaurant without a reservation (we feel like reservations can make dining on vacation too stressful). Fortunately, we were seating after three minutes of waiting. After browsing the menu, we ordered the following: Salmon Avocato Tartare (wife), Angus Rumsteak (wife), the special of the day - beef with potatoes (me), two glasses of Bordeaux, and one glass of Sauvignon. Roughly 15 minutes later our orders arrived, smelling just as delicious as their titles. Initially I found the beef to lack in flavor; however, the included sauce immediately wiped that thought from my mind. The side of potatoes were plentiful (so much so that I couldn't fathom eating dessert afterwards) and the glass of Sauvignon was the perfect selection to wash down my meal. Although we were both satisfied with our meals, I cannot say that we were so impressed that we would make a return visit. If you're looking for a good spot for dinner & wine, check out Les Rupins.

For our last night, we were looking for something special. This is not (only) an italian restaurant as the name might imply. As most cafes, they have a full bar with plenty of cocktails, wines, and beers. I had a Belgian Afigem, which is a safe bet, and a local beet - both were great. For dinner we went with the tapas. Onion soup, melted camembert cheese with honey and walnuts, and salmon. It was classic French and delicious too. The restaurant is in a busy street, perfect for people watching. Service was extraordinary. Our server was helpful and funny. He was so good we offered a $10 tip on a $50 check - which he refused! "it's too much. $4 is enough". Wow. The chef kindly adjusted the tasting menu to a pescatarian one, so I got to try a broad range of offerings for just €55. Beautifully constructed dishes with complexity of flavors and textures, though occasionally it was tricky to get the correct combination in a single forkful (e.g., fish, corn, spring onion, fig, etc.). The stuffed tomato, which was my last main, truly shone - absolutely "last meal" worthy dish. Definitely order it. The dessert was a bit of a letdown, however, after the beautiful meal - the delicious raspberry sorbet, culis, and white chocolate with hazelnuts rested on a pretty underwhelming and dense biscuit, which was too heavy compared to the rest of the dish. The staff was friendly, prompt, and welcoming. The pacing of the dishes was precise even as the restaurant got busy through the evening. I would definitely recommend, though maybe opt for a different dessert or cheese.
