This was an optional excursion on our tour, and I'm really glad we decided to do it. The music, dancing, and singing were incredibly entertaining, there was never a dull moment. I honestly don't know how the dancers avoid hitting each other, especially with five couples on stage at once! The show started on "Argentina time" around 9:45 pm and ended around 11 pm. One of the highlights was their performance to Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal which so fun and unexpected. Dinner was a prix fixe menu. We started with wine, bread, and empanadas. I ordered my steak medium well, but it came out fully cooked and quite chewy, which was disappointing. Luckily, one of my tourmates ordered hers medium and shared a piece with me and it was perfect. So many Tango show options and this one was recommended by our Hotel. They had a transfer option which was seamless and convenient especially considering the ride after the show. We took the Show sans dinner (with drinks/snack) option which worked out better for us. Starting around 9:45 and finishing at 11. We got a choice of two Empanadas (meat/veggie/cheese options) or dessert. Empanadas -meat, spinach were delicious. Our Malbec which was poured often was also tasty. The show didn't disappoint with a mix of talented dancers along with acclaimed Singers and live orchestra. Two story theatre that takes you back in time in a good way. We were on the second level and had a perfect view of the stage. Service was attentive. Would recommend booking directly or through your Hotel. The show was stunning, from the musicians perched above the stage to the dancers who actually looked like they cared about putting on something memorable. The atmosphere felt classic without being stale, and the room itself has this warm, old-world charm that makes you want to stay long after the lights come up. We dined here as part of a 28-person tour. The food was exceptional. I had the fish, with a pumpkin side dish. Yes, I know that in Argentina one must have steak, but I had steak for two the previous meals. In Argentina, a steak can be almost spoon-tender, but it's typically not at a price-fixe restaurant. Regardless, the fish was delicious. The dessert was superb, caramel del leche. It was very rich, but there wasn't a drop left after I had mine. The entertainment was professional and exceptional. A live band plays on a second-level bandstand, while a dozen singers & dancers perform on stage. Their performance was wonderful. Our tour group of 34 came to a tango dinner show. We had two long banquet tables reserved. We sat at the very front of the stage. Not a good idea as we couldn't see the tango dancers' feet. We started with a three course meal. Ordered - * hubby & I both had the empanada starter. One meat & the other cheese with onion. We both felt too doughy. * main course - we both selected the angus beef. Requested medium rare. As much as Argentina is known for beef, it's not choice or prime USDA like the States. * dessert - we both selected the dulce de leche mousse as South Americans love their dulche de leche. Once again too sweet. * choice of beverage- we both had a Malbec. They kept refilling. The tango show - reflected how tango evolved from the 1920's to the present. Our trip leader said this venue was where tango became an accepted form of dance. The performers were all very talented. I came here with my tour group for dinner and tango show. The space is absolutely gorgeous with elegant, classy decor. We were seated downstairs in the spacious dining area, where we enjoyed a 3 course meal before the tango show. There were little bread rolls, chimichurri oil, and crostini with some type of tasty cured meat, which made for mouthwatering bites. For my appetizer, I had the Baked Duo of Argentinian empanadas. One was filled with meat and veggies, while the other contained cheese and onion. Both were very yummy, but I preferred the meat one, as the meat was juicy, tender, and flavorful. The outer breading was wonderfully crispy and pillowy. I selected the slow cooked braised pork for my entree. The pork was cooked with honey, white wine, ginger, and served with sweet potatoes and compressed pears. The pork was a generous portion, and delightfully succulent, juicy, well seasoned with the sweet sauce. The sweet potatoes and pear were perfectly cooked and worked well together. Dessert was Suspiro Porteno, consisting of evaporated condensed milk, Italian meringue flavored with moscato and cinnamon. This was quite unique, but enjoyable. It was creamy, smooth, as well as sweet. And of course, there was coffee to end the dinner. Then came the tango show, which was amazing and like nothing like I've ever seen before. Each act had an actual storyline. There was passionate and skilled dancing, beautiful singing, live orchestra, as well as gorgeous costumes. After my dinner at Don Julio, the hotel arranged for transportation to this venue for the tango show. Seated in the top balcony of the theatre- the there was a live orchestra playing above the stage, and the dancers wore beautiful costumes and the main singers had great voices. Their Dinner and Tango show was a fabulous experience. The staff provided a warm welcome at arrival and swiftly seated guests as they arrived. The guests included what appeared to be a very large tour group, a large number of couples, and a few solo diners like myself. The staff seemed equally attentive to everyone which in my experience is not always true for solo diners. The dinner included an appetizer, a main dish, and dessert with three choices in each category. For the appetizer I chose a corn soup which was delicious. For the main I chose the pork which was served with sweet potato. The pork was incredible tender and very good but the sweet potatoes were a bland accompaniment. The size of the main entrees were huge and I didn't finish mine as I wanted to save room for dessert which I was glad I had as the pavlova I had chosen for dessert was amazing. The accompanying drinks, including the wine were free flowing and my glass was never close to empty until I turned them away when I'd had enough. The same was true for the water. After dessert coffee was served to those who wanted it. The tango show started after dinner. I appreciated that the singing and music were all performed live. The tango dancers were all very talented, fit, and had great chemistry. The costumes, sets, and lighting enhanced the tango numbers. The dining room was gorgeous. Saw an Authentic Tango Experience here after some really good food. The steak here was decent compared to the other ones we had in Argentina. The risotto rice here was made well, but nothing stood out too much, expect for the Tango Show! We had empanadas here, rice and other grain options, but they were decent compared to the other empanadas we've tried on this trip. This is definitely not a Mexican restaurant though! The tango show was outstanding and something not to be missed in a trip to BA or Argentina, in general. The athleticism of all the dances was really impressive and made for a fun and culturally-engaging evening. I didn't realize this was a really amazing Tango spot (or I did) until I went to one that was not so good. Been to Buenos Aires twice now (love it) which is know for their Tango. This place is also a historic cafe for coffee and tea during the day, the tango show and dinner is one of the best at night! Originally called Bar Rivadavia, this café was once the haunt of poets, musicians, even criminals, which is why a police commissioner jokingly called it "los angelitos" in the early 1900s. The Tango show is Top Notch with a live orchestra, amazing costumes, and choreographed by the same people as Rojo Tango (which is #1 Tango show in Buenos Aires and $290 a person) This Tango show is $130 a person and all meal and all you can drink included in the price! I absolutely loved it and want to go back again! I do not remember what the food is in the photos so I apologize but most is a set menu with a few choices here and there. Perfect for me! What a spectacular show! The show follows tango from the Belle Epoque through the Golden Years to Neo Tango. Excellent five-piece orchestra with imaginitive arrangements. A jazzy candombe, "Buenos Aires" from Evita with a nod to milonga, though a dark one (has no one else but me found it strange that Evita had no tango numbers in it even with the reference to Agustin Magaldi?). I enjoyed a very cool Bond Girl Pink Panther number in the style of Piazzolla. Tango, you have done it again, and I remember why I love you so. The current menu looks spectacular on paper, but I found it "meh." However I was here for the show. Nuce bebefit, they will pick you up from your hotel and return you. Wine is free and good! Let's start with the food, it is definitely the reason why you should come to this place, besides the place itself. The cakes are amazing, the coffee is great, has some of the best pastries in town. Let me tell you today was a 110 F degrees afternoon in Buenos Aires city and this very closed place didn't have AC, the waiter told me it was broken, let's pretend that we believe that for a second but if that was the case, why wouldn't you put at least a fan in the salon??? It was insufferable in there, plus our waiter didn't have the best attitude towards it, since he gave me a cold look when I asked. Plus the restrooms are super pretty and clean and the place is disable accesible, it even has it's own elevator Will be back just for the food, probably in fall lol. read more

I came here for the tango show only, and so cannot comment on the food. Now this was my first tango show, so I am certainly not an expert, but I liked this show very much. I thought the dancers were excellent, as was the five piece orchestra, the costume and set changes were classy, and while the wine they poured beforehand was not exceptional, it was poured rather liberally. The front of the café looked quaint, and I would gladly go back to have a bite to eat, a drink, or even to see another tango performance. read more

This is more a review of the tango show than the food itself. We spent an evening at this place. Entering this place takes you back in time and reminds you of a bygone era. Our group had a small private tango lesson session with 2 of the artistes before we saw the show. It was very good... the dancers were elegant, gracious and very friendly. We had a great time trying to learn the few basic steps of tango - and see them glide on the floor. The tango show itself was spectacular. 1 and a half hours of great dancing, singing. The costumes are great - the artistes are superb. Its such a difficult dance form but they make it look so easy and elegant. The show was nice they did a good job but it got a little long in the tooth. The food was deplorable, they called it a ribeye and it was peasant pot roast, I sent it back. The wine was plentiful and good. When I showed the host what a real Ribeye looked like he got angry and stormed off. They replaced my so called steak with vegan ravioli, it was not better. At the end the waiter came by an asked for a tip, well I'm sure you can guess what happened. I know this sounds like I want to be cheap but what happened to the days you tipped on the experience.
