Excellent food, fast service, and an incredible view of St. Joseph's Cathedral (well worth a visit itself). However, the staff was quite unfriendly and rushed us to get our table in time for a reservation that was coming soon after us. It was mostly unfortunate because (despite our group-of-3's efforts to be friendly, polite, and unobtrusive) the staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming to other patrons while being very cold toward us. In spite of the terrible service, I would return for the food and location alone.

Quiche with smoked salmon and leek + hot chocolate

I was there for the first time and ordered quiche with smoked salmon and leek with hot chocolate. The food was great as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant. At this time, they don't accept credit/debit cards because system went down. Totally recommend you to go there with a company of friends or family!

Chiq and trendy cafe with a French touch near Schottentor. The ambiance is really nice. Even when it is full of people it doesn't seem loud or packed. But be sure to make a reservation!!! The food is very good but I wish they had more meatless options. The service can be slow sometimes but the food usually makes up for it. I am deducting a star because the door to the smoking area is always open and eventually the smoke fills parts of the downstairs area too. And you have to walk though the smoking section to go to the bathroom. Not pleasant...

One of my favorite places in Vienna. They have shockingly good, huge portions. Their club sandwich - the "le club" - is bloody amazing and comes with a forest of steak fries. The balsamic they use on their salads must have been stolen from Olympus it's so damn tasty. They also have a really good steak frites. It's really more of a filet, but they know how to cook it beautifully rare. The only downside is the cost. The proper entrees are in the teens, so two people will probably spend somewhere in the range of 30-60 euros.

It has been newly renovated and reopened in late 2013 so everything is looking great. I really like the style in the restaurant/Cafe, ir is a good mixture between old and modern style, in my opinion. The serves here is impeccable and the food and drink quality is to die for. I actually have nothing negative to report about this place.

The glass is not tinted. This is a violet soda--violet as in the flower.

Wonderful food, friendly service and lovely ambiance. The menu is very creative and interesting. I had breakfast here and I really want to come back for lunch! They have interesting drinks like lavender or violet soda (as in the flower). The have unusual juice mixes, I tried mango, orange, grapefruit, celery and ginger juice, it was very tasty. Their food is very fresh. The service is extremely fast! They were very friendly when I called to reserve, too. Unfortunately, the door to the smoking section is always open. And the kitchen is open directly onto the smoking section. So they're preparing amazingly healthy juices in a smokey environment? I can't quite get my head around that. On the up side, the hostess was very open to finding me a table as far from the smoking section as possible. The air there was pretty good. I'll definitely go back. They have moules frites on the menu! Must.Have. And the quiche specials looked worth an extra trip, too.

The building is very elegant and classical, really enjoyed the atmosphere as walking in, we sat down at a corner next to the window and could not wait to try out the coffee and pastries here. We got Cafe Central Kafee and Maria Therasia for coffee and shared one Viennese Apple Strudel. The coffee is so smooth and with the added liquor, the fragrance is amazing!!! No question, this is the BEST Apple strudel I've tasted, crunchy texture for the outside crust and the filling is full of fruity flavors. We spent about a bit more than an hour there and that was the most relaxing, appreciating and beautiful moment among this Europe trip.

Well known for being a beautiful and historic cafe established 1876 frequented by the likes of famous names like Trotsky and Freud, this traditional Viennese coffeehouse and cafe is a popular tourist destination. Having walked by around 7:30pm the prior evening and seeing a line of about 15 people outside, the next morning arriving around 9am the line was about 15 minutes without reservations. Upon entering the inside is beautiful, cavernous domed ceilings, chandeliers and a very classic bistro vibe. Enough seating for probably 150 customers, quite large inside, and about two-thirds full. That's when I realized the line outside was more for show, which at some places I get because staffing might be hard and they want to ramp up the pacing between breakfast and lunch services. In a place like this it seems more like a marketing technique to create hype, which kinda annoyed me--it's not respectful of customers' time. It took a while maybe 10 minutes for a staff member to pass menus, then another 10 minutes for him to come back and check in. What I'll say is he was swift to answer our questions and knew the menu well. In general service felt lacking though, after eating it took quite a long time to get our server's attention again to get the check. For breakfast I was a little surprised by the prices for the food offered, on the high side. While the vegan spreads were very good, from the menu it wasn't clear that it was actually vegan cream cheese that was the base of the spreads. Unfortunately the rest of the food was meh, €14.50 for a small croissant (not especially good), a plain roll, a boiled egg and latte, with a pat of butter and jam. Would I come back? Maybe to try a couple of their baked pastries and dessert, but not for breakfast. For more info: https://cafecentral.wien/en/

We were directed to go upstairs and found an open seat in no time at all. Just passing by all the display cases filled with desserts and pastries triggered the cravings. We did a quick menu perusal but really knew that we wanted to try the kaiserschmarrn which was a traditional Austrian dessert made up torn up pancakes, served with a plum compote and dusted with powdered sugar. It was light, had a nice caramelized flavor from browning in the pan and little pops of more sweetness from the raisins. It was so delicious that we came back the next day for more but shortcut the line and got it to go from the takeaway window. Same kaiserschmarrn but around 3 Euros cheaper for a larger serving. After eating we wanted around the restaurant and towards the back you can see just how the cooks juggled making many pans of Kaiserschmarrn at the same time. Yes it's a bit pricey but so tasty to try at least once.

This was a wise decision. The indoor space is beautiful and we were seated promptly both times (mid-day). The first time we both got coffee drinks and shared a piece of apple strudel. Second visit we were hungrier so shared the two tiered "best of" sampler. It included four savory open-faced sandwiches and four desserts. All in small sizes, although still big enough to share with another person. The other reason for the second visit was to peruse their downstairs shop. We wanted to bring some high quality souvenirs home to gift to family/friends and this was the perfect shopping location. We got a few chocolate things, including a little something for us. One thing I noticed is that, in addition to tasty chocolates, the boxes themselves are quite pretty and a gift themselves. They also have some non-food options, including branded aprons and reusable bags.
