We two stopped in for coffee and cake in order to experience this traditional old coffeehouse. AMBIANCE: 3.5. A bit ragged around the edges, but pleasantly evocative of an earlier era. COFFEE: 4.0. Quick service for a party of 8. We came on a Tuesday night where most restaurants were booked or packed. We decided we needed something quick before heading to the Opera house. I got the Wiener schnitzel as my meal. I've noticed that some restaurants tend to clobber the meat more, making it incredibly thin. If wanting proper Wiener Schnitzel is best enjoyed in a beer hall or country pub. The oil and crumbs make it perfect drinking food. I'd say the best I've had was in Germany but this one gets the job done when you're in a pinch. It came with a lemon on the side and a salad came with the meal unbeknownst to me. The salad had coleslaw, iceberg, beans, what looked to be potato salad and tomato . It was vinegary but light. Food came out within 15 min. We also had the apple streusel and cheesecake which I preferred the streusel. read more

Service and hospitality outstanding! While there is outside seating the interior of the restaurant feels like you've travelled back in time to an old coffee shop. Desserts are displayed behind glass in the middle of the restaurant. Food is made fresh to order and very flavorful. We walked in and after a few minutes sat ourselves. We sat for about 10 minutes before a server came by. We ordered two hot chocolates and asked for a menu. We received the hot chocolate very fast and it was amazing. We never received a menu and were tired of waiting so we got the check and left. 11 euro for 2 hot cocoas. Crazy! I got to say I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the service here. I got into the cafe and this waiter in the late 50s gave me an attitude. I sat down on the table about 10 mins. He shows up and asked what I want. Since it's my first time, I didn't know the menu. I asked for the menu and he shoved it in my face. Then he walked off. I really hate arrogant waiter or waitresses. If I paid to see an asshole in a zoo. Then I got my money worth. But came to drink and eat. Needless to say, I left the cafe. By the looks of the cafe, it was dirty and with so many cafes and restaurants around. You can skip this place. DO NOT GO! read more

We were very happy with place at first but after several visits, our rating has decreased each time. On the positive side, its got the Vienna coffee house vibe - with the mini couches, and newspapers on sticks. People seem to take however long they want, and there is no rush. Its also a good location near the tourist office and Albertina. We have had various coffee drinks, scrambled eggs, bratwurst, sausage, and apple strudel. All of them were good and roughly 5 eu each more or less. A few issues. First of all, you should no this is cash only and no credit cards accepted. We never got an actual bill ... the water itemized things on a scratch sheet and then just gave a total verbally each time - and each time the bill was higher than we expected by 2-5 euros with no explanation. And since nothing is in writing you can't figure it out. The waiter's English was limited and it seems pointless to discuss the matter. Despite ordering all this, they also served 2-4 bread rolls, unrequested. Later we found that there was an additional charge onto our bill of 2-5 euros which was unexpected, even though we never asked for bread. There is no mention of cover charge in the menu. The coffee was really nothing special at all, and the food not that great. The apple strudel was pretty good, and the bratwurst was good although expensive and skimpy. Each time we paid about 28 EU and felt hungry and unsatisfied. After the last time we decided we would not be back. We actually estimate we would have paid less and gotten more food at Starbucks a block away, but we came back anyway for the ambience. There is a market two blocks up, which serves coffee and far better rolls far cheaper. They also seem to be understaffed. One waiter was working and seemed to be breaking a sweat walking back and forth and doing the best he could. read more

Vegetable soup had chunks of meat in, and was small and unpleasant and massively overpriced (3eur for a stale bread roll or just a tourist surcharge? hard to say). It's not a bad place to sit with a coffee for a while though, I just wouldn't try to eat there again. To respond to Amary N, if you don't like older waiters with attitude, why did you go to Vienna?? Came across this cafe a few times while on a search for the perfect spot for desert and a coffee. Though it didn't stand out initially it became a favorite, so much so that we came back the very next day. The plum cake and the cheese cake were delicious, not too sweet. If you're looking for a traditional Viennese cafe, this is the place to stop! Menu available in English, coffee drinks were great along with the pastries. On a Sunday it was very empty but the few people inside we're locals. Staff wasn't overly friendly, he seemed short with us once we asked for the English menu. On a rainy Thursday we stopped into this place and found a non-touristy clientele, friendly waiters and decent strudel and cakes. We were looking for a place to take in the city without having to sit in the rain. So we people-watched our fellow tourists and locals while sipping wine and playing cards and were left alone for a couple of hours. I love how storied this place seems. It's clearly been around a while, and has seen its fair share of guests, local and international. A good spot for a stopover before continuing on your way to wherever you're going. read more

Stopped there to get a Apfelstrudel on a Sunday afternoon. The menue itself and the interior looked a bit worn down, but we were quite amazed by the awesome Apfelstrudel. The waiter was super nice and we enjoyed every minute there. read more
