Had some great classic french food! Been a while since I have had duck confit that was not dry. Escargot was on point and the butter leaf salad was an absolute star of a dish (literally!). Looks like the bad reviews are mostly for brunch and some mediocre burgers. I guess I will stick to the dinner menu. Brunch is a double egged sword for a restaurant! Cafe Paulette is the perfect place for brunch in the Fort Greene area. We got to the restaurant around 10:00-10:30 am and were seated immediately (recommend coming before 10:45 for no wait). As for the food, we got the croque monsieur and the eggs benedict which were $14 and $16 respectively. Both dishes were very filling and were spot-on. My only regret was that I did not get the Norwegian eggs benedict- the dish had a generous amount of the lox slices. read more

Always great experience. The food the staff the owner the vibe. A small French restaurant with a cool wine bar next door. You can go alone or with a date or the family. The steak frites is one of the best in the city and the prices are reasonable for what you get. I also really love sitting at the bar there. The mix of people is just what I want at a restaurant. been here several times now for brunch and dinner and the food here is good, not great, but the service is mediocre at best. i remember once when my bf and i came here for brunch, i ordered the nicoise salad and asked if i could get the eggs poached instead of boiled and the server gave me a nasty look saying "that's really weird." ok, so i understand it's not conventional but i just felt like she could've phrased that differently? then my bf asked for an extra order of poached eggs with his meal and she said something like, "ANOTHER order?" we both just looked at each other like, "mam, they just eggs." anyways, for brunch, nicoise salad is good! the eggs are also good, not great - what you'd expect from a regular shmegular brunch resty. for dinner, the burger and the mussels are bomb.com! i've tried the fish which was fine but it's cooked and served in an inch full of olive oil so take what you will with that information. the location really helps this spot out. a really great date spot for any time of day - especially on a spring, summer or fall evening - and they play live jazz on tuesdays. read more

For those who want to take some fancy brunch pictures to make your friends jealous - this is your spot. The food looks and tastes amazing, and there are a lot of good options. If one thing holds this place back slightly it'd have to be the seating and vibe of the place. It isn't bad, but it doesn't really match up with the really nice looking food. Over priced and underwhelming. Menu is very specific and tailored. I wanted a traditional breakfast but that turned out to be too much of a task for the cook. After the waiter talked it over with the owner, they were able to accommodate mines and my boyfriend's order. My Waiter was inexperience and not capable of taking ours orders. After a bit of back-and-forth, our ordered finally came. Food was room temperature and quite disappointing. Let's just say 2 orders of scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, 1 small plate of lamb sausage, cut up into little circles, french fries, a half sliced avocado, and red wine was not worth $107+tip! Charming restaurant! I had the Assiette Végétarienne... sooo good but forgot to get a picture. Normally I would be all over the Croque Madame but too many slices of Sicilian Pizza of late. So I took a risk on a dish with no picture. So glad I did! Roasted vegetables (Blue cauliflower, French beans, cherry tomatoes, etc) with a pile of perfectly seasoned quinoa tossed in an oil dressing on top, with sliced avocado on top. My table also liked the avocado toast with salmon (so much salmon!) and the Salad Niçoise. read more

I was very disappointed with my visit at this cafe' today, i met a client for lunch which was good, our first server (female) was very pleasant and patient, however my teenager is a student at the high school next to the cafe', after we paid our bill, I decided to wait for my child. Fast forward 30 minutes later I ask for a menu for drinks that is suitable for a minor/teenager, our new server a male kept ignoring us, I had to leave my outside seating and walk to the entrance door to get his attention, he would not come to meet me, putting his hand to his ear gesturing that he couldn't hear me... smh ‍... I couldn't believe it!!! Finally he brings out a drink menu for adult beverages... I look at him in disbelief ... he just walks away... maybe being brown people isn't his ideal customers, I don't recommend that anyone to bring children to this place... It reminds us when we were in Paris :) Great location as well, we can see the fall foliage of Fort Greene Park right thru the windows. We had croissant, French onion soup and Croque Monsieur. Lunched here about a year ago. Very expensive but good burger. Lunched here today. Burger was more expensive, smaller, overcooked, and grisly. The bun embarrassed the burger. Friend ordered an inedible, hockey puck salmon burger for even more $. Another friend found a bug in her mostly eaten salad. Paulette has come down a lot in a year. Fries were still perfect. I would like to give this place 3 1/2 if I could, but I'll round up. Came here on a Tuesday night for jazz music with my mom and my boyfriend. I had a reservation for 8PM and arrived at 750. The hostess told us that our table would be ready "at the time of my reservation" ...ok so ... in ten minutes? We waited ... and waited ... and waited ... until it was 820!!!!! The hostess came over and apologized profusely multiple times - and I get it, it's not her fault. But she clearly pointed out the tables she had in mind for us and told us some of them had been there milking a bottle of wine for "about an hour" .... I have gone to many places in NYC and there is always a time limit to a reservation - and sure it's annoying - but it allows for your other guests who MADE A RESERVATION to be able to have a place to sit at the time of their reservation - not a half hour later. They need to implement a policy of either 1. Time restrictions on tables or 2. An additional charge if you stay over a certain amount of time - because in the end, you've just pissed off a customer that probably would have returned if it wasn't for this experience. The hostess came over and told us to look at the drink menu- we could each have a drink on her - unfortunately they don't serve liquor- just wine - and 2/3 of us can't drink wine (migraines!) so she changed her offer to each of us getting a dessert on her. She ended up having to push a table into an area just for us since no one was getting up and we finally sat down at 830. Well, when the time came for dessert, instead of being asked what we each wanted, we were brought over 1 creme brûlée (which is funny because we had all just been talking about how we were least interested in the creme brûlée) no worries- we ordered two additional desserts .... which they charged us for. The food was fine - absolutely nothing to write home about - the music was enjoyable, and we made friends with one of the tables next to us - but other than that ????? Completely disappointed in this place. If I had a table that waited 30 minutes after their reservation time for a table ... I would've given them the 3 desserts (one per person) that I had promised them before they were seated. Hell, I would've given them an appetizer on the house. Will not be returning, which sucks because we live down the street. I'm getting upset just writing this and reliving it. Work on the table turnover time and you'll be better off for it because making your customer that had a reservation wait (technically 45 minutes bc we got there early!) is ridiculous and unprofessional. read more

Walked in without a reservation on a Friday evening and they were able to seat us outside in the streetery. The hostess was funny and friendly and accommodated our specific table request. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list, and also sprang into action to swap out our wobbly table for a stable one. There was a tasty poached pear salad special, and then we also ordered the steak frites and burger. Both were cooked properly to temperature, fries were crunchy and well seasoned. The service here is average, but the waitresses aren't too attentive. It took a few minutes before anyone acknowledged that we were waiting for a table. The food was not bad, I had the croque monsieur and my boyfriend ordered the eufs norvegiens. The salmon from the eufs norvegiens lacked flavor. The coffee here is also terrible, avoid at all costs. Great service, great food. Really like the vibe here. And right next to Ft Greene park so nice for a stroll after. There were no open tables inside so we waited next door at their wine bar. They texted me when a table was ready and we were able to take our wine with us to the restaurant. And our server boxed up our charcuterie food and brought it to our table! We both got the steak au poivre and it was very tasty. I think next time I will order medium instead of medium rare because I actually like a little more char on the outside. This place is so cute from the outside, it catches my eye every time I am around the neighborhood and I finally was able to try it today. Restaurant aesthetics are very cute and service is great however, food is definitely lacking in flavor and specialty. I ordered the omelette of the day with bacon, green beans, and fingerling potatoes. The omelette desperately needed some salt or some flavor. The finger ling potatoes I felt could've been replaced with something else. My friend ordered the shashuka and she didn't really enjoy it either, it wasn't a traditional shashuka. It was way too watery. Overall, semi decent experience and wouldn't be back for the food. Also note that brunch is only on the weekends and not served on the weekday. Bathroom 2, Food 4 The bathroom is pretty meh. Really dimly lit and there's only 1 bathroom which creates traffic. A little moisty in there too, just makes me want to do my thing and leave for another impatient customer waiting. The lock on the bathroom is one of those old sliders and I hate touching those since thats what everyone touches after using the bathroom. Maybe if there were paper towels I can use it to unlock the lock. Food was really good. I had a brunch menu and got poached eggs with salmon (lox). I killed it cause it was really good. I usually dont like poached eggs too much and I loved it so thats a huge plus. The coffee is nice too but I find pike place nice so that's not saying anything. read more

This place was near our hotel and the online menu looked like it would work for all of our party, plus they were on OpenTable--which I always appreciate. We were not disappointed with Cafe Paulette from the excellent Croque Monsieur sandwiches to the powerful coffee that will stimulate the growth of hair on your chest! The only things that keeps this from being a five-star joint is slow service and a slight lack of air conditioning. Our server appeared to be the only one working and we could have used a little more attention and air flow. Bonus: They were shooting scenes for an upcoming episode of "Elementary" right outside the restaurant. I really like this neighborhood French cafe and I can't put my finger on exactly why. The food is pretty good but not amazing or anything, same with the service (which is usually slow and sometimes a little disinterested) but overall, I always have a positive experience here. I highly recommend anything they have on special, the wine is all natural and though they can get crowded during rush hours (expect to wait for a table but never as long as they say you will) it's a great place for a date or to meet a friend - great for appetizers and wine or a full meal. Maybe it's the ambience that keeps me coming back? The interior is simultaneously classy and homey and really does feel like a piece of France in Brooklyn. Some friends and I had an impromptu brunch here on a rainy Sunday. We had intended to dine at Walter's but there was a wait as expected, and the rain put a damper on our be flexible plans. There was a brief wait at Cafe Paulette, but my friends and I were able to wait inside before sitting at one of the booths by the window. We shared a bottle of sparkling rose, which was delicious. I ordered the burger, medium. The burger was just okay which makes it kinda disappointing. The accompanying salad was tasty, as were the fries. The burger was kinda dry and I never got a chance to ask for more aioli because the server Just wasn't coming back around. I've had so many tasty burgers in Brooklyn, that a just okay burger for almost $20 was not okay. My friends said they liked their food. The presentation was good-- the avocado toast with salmon looked amazing! We had some coffee after brunch, and that was decent. Overall, the best part of this brunch was the sharing of wine with two friends I hadn't seen together in quite a bit. I may be back if a friend suggests it. But when craving a burger, I'll likely go else where. read more

Fort Greene is one of those neighborhoods where the great dinner restaurants have been replaced with cocktail/wine/tapas bar. Cafe Paulette tries to do both, but my impressions with my dinner left me disappointed. Small portion sizes for entree, limited menu and charging $10 for a domestic pilsner. We had dinner for 4 ordering escargot (nothing special) & a cod cerviche (good). The steak (overcooked), mussels (not fresh) and duck (good, but very small portion for $38). Went here on a brunch date with my husband. I was blown away by the service and food. Outstanding! I ordered the French onion soup which was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. For my main, I had the French omelette with salad. Delicious, perfect French style omelette. I have to emphasize service. There was one person for about five tables during midday on a Thursday afternoon. We felt very cared for, our waiter did an excellent job at multitasking and making sure we had everything we need, brought out promptly. He was very attentive so major kudos for that and shout out to the back of house for quick turnaround. I will be returning for sure! Such a gem! read more
