Generally don't like to eat breakfast out because with a family of 5, you end up spending £60 on a mediocre breakfast you could have made at home for under £10, but really loved this spot. Even when I ordered an Americano and got a latte, and then proceeded to get two more coffee's that I didn't order and then got bacon on my Bethnal green veggie breakfast I can't complain. Sitting outside on a rainy, cold summers day with good company, and full belly, and at 7 pounds it is pretty good. The portions are MASSIVE though. read more

Okay, I have been meaning to update my views on this for the last few weeks, as I have since been back and had a very different experience. Just have not had a moment to write this (sorry for the delay Cafe 338!) If you have read the previous review you may (rightly) wonder why I ever returned? Basically, I was coming home from a party with some friends and on getting off the tube at Bethnal Green, everyone started realise they were hungry. I suggested we go to Little Georgia, but this was vetoed due to being too far away. Plus, my girlfriend is a major fan of 338. I explained to her that it was impossible for me to go back due to the previous experience and the review. Reader, my protestations fell on deaf ears. It was recommended that I go in disguised. I was drunk enough to think this a good idea. It was not. The disguise consisted of a Chinaman's hat (conical Asian hat), which covered my face about a third of the way down. This would have been a great disguise if I wasn't 6ft 3in tall. But I am and the woman who runs the cafe (my nemesis from the previous review), is very small and so could see my face right away. This was confirmed when she said, "I know you, you are the man who wrote the review". It was not possible to deny this. We exchanged a few words about each other previous attitudes. I focused on her rudeness. She on my drunkenness (which, I for some strange reason, forgot to mention in the previous review). After a moment or two of this we decided to become friends and even had a hug. I then spoke to the rest of the staff and then was served a giant breakfast with mountains of extra baked beans and hash browns. Dear reader, it was a moment that allows me to believe in the possibility of world peace. We are all human. Me, you, the entire staff of Cafe 338. We all make mistakes and we all let our moods get the better of us. But what we don't all do, is make breakfasts as amazing as the one I had a Cafe 338 on Bethnal Green Road on Saturday October 1st at approximately 6am. Yes, like others, took a chance because Pellicci's was closed (Sunday). Glad we did. The full English breakfast was the best I've ever tasted, attention given to every detail and the prices are just something else in terms of value for money. It's be a dilemma of Pellicci's or here next time I'm around there but if it's a Sunday it's a no-brainer. read more

It was one of the first typical english cafè that i tried when i came for the first time in London and it's definitely the best!They are really kind everytime,sometimes you have to wait a little bit because often it's quite full,but for the rest the food is great and the price good!I recommend it to everybody!!!! read more

Will NEVER eat here again due to paying for Cafe 338's error! Initial impressions were good, the place seemed to have a good vibe, staff seemed friendly and the food on the menu looked tasty. While I was waiting for my meal, one of the staff came over and asked if another customer could sit at the table. I had no reason to object and was quite happy to share the table. However, when the customer left he clearly paid my bill instead of his own. Thanks buddy! Upon leaving, I was charged for a large vegetarian breakfast when I'd ordered what the menu described as a 'pure' vege breakfast. I tried to explain that it was the other customer who'd ordered the large breakfast but this seemed to fall on deaf ears. With five members of staff present and the cafe packed with customers, I just didn't have the will or energy to argue, like a typical English shmuck I relented and paid. Though the difference wasn't astronomical, I felt aggrieved that I was made to pay extra for something I never ordered. Thanks Cafe 338 for helping me get the day off to great start, It's great to subsidise the meals of other patrons! Take this story or leave it, you have been warned. read more

Café 338 doesn't accept card payments, and the coffee is undrinkable. Everything's super cheap, and the service is slow and nothing is organic. Kudos for clearly marking the vegetarian options. read more

Up until 3 weeks ago I used to eat our regular saturday or Sunday morning breakfast until 3 saturdays ago when I had food poisoning from there and was sick for the following 3-4 days. I have on more than one occasion seen the staff wipe their faces and scratch etc and then not wash hands and I still went back there to eat the following week (I know this bad hygiene happens in many places but what you dont see you dont know) This has naturally put me off from eating there. I also know my body well and know it was from no other source than this cafe. What a shame !! read more

Well done cafe 338...what a fantastic place! The food was amazing and certainly great value for money. Not only were the portions large, there was plenty to choose from.....totally spoilt for choice. Particularly liked the way the food was prepared and cooked in front of the diners, the chefs took so much pride with presentation. The staff were friendly and the cafe was really clean. The only negative that may pose a problem is that you could get asked to share a table during the busier times as the cafe isn't very big. Well worth a visit. read more

Cheap and delicious, great place for breakfast and lunch! The only downside is that it is fairly tiny, so it is often completely full.

By far the worst experience I've ever had eating out. I arrived at 388 cafe around 12 noon Sunday 28th July 2015. There was a long queue which me and my partner didn't mind joining. My partner popped back home (he lives across the road) to drop off a bag while I stayed in the queue. While he was away I got to the front of the queue. The waiter came to me but wouldn't seat me till my partner came back. I understood this but his attitude and the way he spoke to me was appalling. At this point I already wanted to leave. But my Partner came back and he wanted to stay. After another 15 minutes waiting now we finally got a seat. We ordered and waited for our food. The two breakfasts arrived but not the plate of toast. We waited for a while but after a while I started to eat. My partner didn't want to eat the breakfast without toast so he left his food and waited. We didn't think it would be long. We asked a waitress who assured us it would come shortly. Another 10 minutes and it still wasn't there. We asked the waiter who seated us again and he said it was coming and at first was understanding and apologetic. My partner decided he didn't want the breakfast anymore because it was now cold. He told the waiter politely that he now didn't want the breakfast because it is now cold, and would like a new hot one. He agreed and took the plate away. The waiter later returned with the toast. My partner almost laughing at this, tried to explain to the waiter that he wanted the toast with the breakfast and the toast would be cold by the time the breakfast got there. The waiter started to become extremely agitated, rude and aggressive. He accused my partner of even making death threats which was extremely bizarre and totally untrue. He was being so argumentative that other customers were watching the scene. He left. We decided we had had enough and we're going to leave and not pay as the service from the beginning was totally unacceptable. we were then chased down the street by the crazy waiter who by now was so angry he was red and shaking. Demanding that I pay for my meal. I explained that though I ate the meal the service was so awful that I didn't want to pay, he grabbed me by the arm forcefully and tried to march me back to the cafe but I was so embarrassed by the situation I quickly gave him the money to get him to go away. Which he did. The whole experience totally ruined what was meant to be a relaxing Sunday. I will never return there and I hope that terrible waiter is removed from the establishment as he clearly shouldn't be working with people. awful service, the worst ever. I was left in shock for hours after. read more
