Best sushi in town always. The servers are great. I like to experiment with the menu here and no matter what I try I always like it! Simply the best asian food in the valley, We go whenever we go into town and it is something we look forward to. We have had about the entire sushi menu and it is unsurpassed. Good food. Poor service. We waited a very long time for our food, then when it came it was only my sushi. We waited another 15 minutes for my husband's food (which was just fried rice), and even at that had to signal the waiter to check on it. He, at one point said "one more minute". We ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer which should have been $8.50, and it came out with our food, not as an appetizer. On the bill they charged us $16.50 for it because that was the meal portion which came with soup and salad. We received no soup or salad. Very frustrating trying to get the bill adjusted. There is no doubt in my mind, cafe asia has the best sushi in the roanoke area. Every time I go there I am more and more impressed with the food and service. Everyone who works there is friendly, and even though there is often a wait for dinner on the weekends, the staff is always incredibly gracious. The fish is always fresh and flavorful, which is something that is sometimes hard to find so far from the coast. I have never gotten anything from here that I did not enjoy. I can't speak on any of the actual entrees, just the sushi, but I can promise you will not be disappointed. read more

Good food. Bad service. Waited a very long time for our food. Then they only brought my meal, but not my husband's. Waited another 15 minutes for his food to arrive, even after signaling the waiter to check on the food. He had only ordered fried rice. The appetizer came with my husband's meal not before our meal. New to area and have been searching for just decent Asian cuisine. Went on some recommendations but was not expecting a lot. WOW! Greeted with great customer service on a busy Saturday night, greeted by all staff, seated quickly (we were early - 6, 6:15), tried dim sum platter appetizer (very good!), Japanese pan noodles and chicken curry for entrees - both new to us and both excellent!! The food is top quality and the presentation is great. Friendly staff and full bar. Usually on weekends they stay packed but carry out is always fast and easy. Very disappointed with the new ownership at the Bonsack Café Asia. We had been a long time customer at both the Bonsack location and 419 location (419 location more than Bosack). We had dinner with some friends earlier tonight at the Bonsack location. Apparently the original owner sold the Bonsack location and it's under new management. I'll have to say that we were very disappointed with our dinner tonight. Not only the service was terrible, but food quality had dropped also. To be fair, our food was good. But the other couple who were with us ordered $70 worth of sushies, they were not impressed. Especially the Lobster Tail Tempur Rolls. Like us, they have been eaten at Café Asia / Café Asia 2 since they opened. Did I mention that the service was terrible? The server we had, she was so overwhelmed and the owner seems like he could careless. We ordered 3 milkshakes for the kids at the end of dinner for around $6 each, only 2 were delivered. We told the server that we're missing 1. While we 're waiting for the missing order, I could hear the server telling the owner that she already swiped our credit cards, it's not her fault that she missed a order and she doesn't care, the owner could deal with it. (She said all this in Chinese, but just happens that I am Chinese descent and understood every single word she said). We waited more than 15 minutes for the missing milkshake. Finally the owner/bartender decided to make it , then walked away while the shake is still in the blender. Finally, my friend's wife has had enough and tracked down the server and told her that we're tired of waiting. After 20 minutes, the owner delivered the missing order, and then charged us for it after made both of us showing him our credit receipts and the itemized receipts. Needless to say, I don't think we'll ever go back there again. Please don't mix this review with Cafe Asia 2 on 419 in Roanoke. We had dinner at the Café Asia 2 at the 419 location on 2/17 with my mother-in-law. As always, the owner Feng was very friendly and attentive, the food was great and the service was superb. I'm hoping that Feng will cease allowing the Bonsack location to use his restaurant's name before they drag his reputation down. read more

We happened upon this restaurant while traveling through, and we were very pleasantly surprised by the wonderful, fresh, delicious food and the excellent service. Even though the restaurant was fairly full we were served as Santa we were the only ones in it. We started and ended the meal with hot towels so that we can wash our hands off, and it just got better from there. Highly recommend this restaurant!!! read more

Easily the best Chinese/Asia restaurant in the Roanoke Valley. No, its not a buffet. Do you ever get the best food at a buffet? No. If you just want to stuff yourself with mediocrity go elsewhere. You will get your money's worth with delicious meals made with fresh tasting ingredients. The owner is always there, always friendly, and eager to make your meal enjoyable. They will adjust heat level and ingredients upon request. I mostly go with Chinese and Thai dishes, just dabbling in the sushi. I've never been disappointed. Went here for lunch after seeing the reviews. We had Tokyo Maki and Sunflower Maki sushi. Wonderful and fresh. Also had the hot and sour soup, which was easily the best I've had in Roanoke -- very spicy and fresh tasting. Service was very nice, and the young Chinese waitress (whose English was very good) recommended dishes, including desserts. My wife had the Banana Basket, which was deep fried pieces of banana topped with kiwi, orange and strawberry, with a sort of cream topping and chocolate drizzle. This was served (as the owner explained at our table) without utensils. You pop each individual piece into your mouth and enjoy. A little exotic and very tasty. We had a wonderful experience and recommend Cafe Asia highly. read more

Great food and service. Sushi is fresh and textures are perfect. Spicy Kani salad is awesome and you MUST specify how spicy you want your food. They will default to mild if you don't say anything. But they can pack in the spice if prompted. read more

No complaints about the food, it is good as always......BUT My issue is that the wall next to our table was covered with fruit flies. we notified the management and were moved to a new table. This one only had 2 flies. Management didnt seem very concerned with the issue and acted as if they knew about this but have not done anything about it. I will agree with Frank W. that the food is great but it isnt authentic Japanese. It is Cafe Asia not Cafe Japan. That being said let us get to the good parts: Pho pho pho pho. I love me some pho and this stuff is delightful. Pho is all about the broth and Cafe Asia has done a great job. That alone would keep me coming back. The maki is great too. As far as sashimi is concerned, the selection is limited and didn't blow my mind but it was still tasty just nothing to write home about. Cafe asia does have, hands down, the best hot and sour soup. Ultimate comfort food. I also will say that the the starter salad of crab & tempura is a nice little change from the usual iceberg lettuce with ginger dressing that EVERYONE serves. As far as the service is concerned it is attentive but not clingy or pushy. Its also great to see the owner on the floor talking to customers. The atmosphere is relaxed and a great place for a casual date or meeting up with friends for food & conversation plus there is something on the menu for a wide range of palates. Wonderful sushi! This is our family's go-to restaurant for birthdays, visiting relatives, etc. We've taken people who are sushi-snobs, having eaten in many California sushi restaurants, and even they have been impressed that you could get sushi this good in lowly Virginia. They have great Chinese and Thai dishes as well. An older relative who is horrified by sushi considers Cafe Asia's "Pineapple Shrimp" to be a wonderful treat. While the food here is good, the management is lacking to say the least. My wife and I were told there would be a 15 minute wait, an hour later we were still waiting. Plenty of tables were open but we were told that the kitchen was too busy and they could not seat anyone. In the time we waited at least 5 take out orders were filled, but no one was seated in the restaurant. We really wanted to eat here but ended up at jersey Lily's instead. The sushi and some of the dinners we have had here are here are pretty good, but what brings the rating down is the consistency of the food and the staff. We have eaten here a few times but the last time was literally the last time. The waiter ( who we have had before) was an impatient, inattentive gentleman who needs to find another line of work. It would seem that if you are not planning on running up a large tab with drinks or known big tipper, well he couldn't be bothered. Sorry bub I'm just not a big drinker and I tip based on service. I went there to eat so let's talk about the food we have had the pad Thai and a few other dishes that weren't bad, but we normally went there for the sushi. Most times we get the boat which has a good variety of sushi. The first few times we got the boat it was pretty good, but once they forgot part of the order and heaven forbid we bother the tattooed waiter, to busy flexing. Then the final straw was on the last visit the rice was hard and dry and when we said something about it the staff just looked at us we didn't know what we were talking about. It apparently was a great deal of trouble to do anything to make us happy. They offered to make us another order (but didn't really want to) Hmm let's see wait another half an hour for more sushi to be made with the same low quality, under cooked rice.. pass. I don't know if the owner is to busy has his other restaurant and doesn't have time for this one, but he needs to find the time. read more
