La Creperie - Oreo crepe

I stumbled upon La Creperie one evening in Katipunan. I wasn't sure if it was the same La Creperie…read moreI had tried years ago at Eastwood, but I gave it a try. It wasn't until I saw the menu that I had realized it was the same restaurant I previously tried, so I thought, "OK, this should be good." Although I found it rather strange that they'd put up a branch there as I have a notion that La Creperie can be a bit pricey especially for students. First of all, the ambiance. It's not really conducive for studying, but more for an intimate dinner with your significant other or a best friend with its cozy lighting and interiors that scream "tea party!" Kidding aside, while the interior's all girly-girly, I think it helps set the mood for the food you are about to enjoy. As for me, I had the Le JJ - a tomato, ham, emmental and gruyere cheese crepe served with a side of greens. Let me tell you though, the plate was lovely! The food was okay for me I guess, it's not too filling and I think it's a great option if you're looking for something light (plus nice to look at). On the side, I had a steaming hot pot of TWG Silver Moon Tea. The teacup itself is super pretty!!! I felt really dainty while drinking my tea and enjoying my crepe. One of the biggest things though about La Creperie is that they already had TWG tea on their menu even before the TWG restaurant came to Philippine shores, and on my very first La Creperie experience, Silver Moon was really, love at first taste so this is what I ordered when I stumbled upon this branch. Overall, I think La Creperie would make for a good date place (guys, please take note!) It has everything a girl will probably want to make the date picture perfect (and Instagrammable): pretty plates, pretty teacups, light food, pretty ambiance. Hey, even if you really enjoy your date's company, you can continue the fun right next door with a cup of coffee at Craft.

Right beside Craft along Esteban Abada, I wonder what the competition must be like for La Creperie…read more I like the place well enough. It's well-lit and especially remote, with Craft getting a lot more attention (at least when I went). It's pretty surprising how girly and intricate the interior is designed - it definitely stands out from most establishments in the area, and in a good way. It's a bit small, but I've never seen it crowded. I was stuck there for an entire afternoon because of the rain with my friends, so we got to try quite a bit on their menu. Their crepes are yummy, warm, and fresh - perfect food to fight the gloomy weather and spirits. I got a familiar pasta dish - the pesto cream carbonara - which was really filling and not too heavy on the cream. Spent nearly P500 though, so I'll probably only be coming back to get some coffee when it gets too crowded in the nearby cafes.

BAck then I was the type who played it safe by ordering ice cream instead of something as exotic as crepe. Nowadays, more people are familiar with this particular slice of dessert than I know. Crepes and cream is a bit special to me because it was the first establishment that showed me that crepes could be savory too. Before I tried this place, all the crepes I ever had were of the desert variety. That said, the stuff on their menu isn't that expensive. The quality of the crepe is great at least when compared to most of the places I've been to. Give it a try, once again, since you'll do little wrong in spending your money here. I sure as heck didn't regret it when I did.

Crepes and Cream may be ubiquitous in the metro's malls, but that doesn't mean their products are automatically inferior. What I can appreciate is that they offer a variety of flavors, from the savory to the sweet; their stalls and are clean and uncluttered; and they make the crepes fresh and fast. (It's quite addicting to watch their staff turn the batter into perfectly thin crepes that, no sweat! And I've always marveled at how their crepes don't tear or break down at all despite being filled and folded in a rush.) I recently triend their Kani Crepe while my sister had the Taco Crepe for lunch. Though the filling is not as abundant as I would have wanted, the simple but yummy flavor of the crepe made up for it. They were quite filling, too, lasting us till dinner while we strolled around the mall.

For a while, it's been my go-to dessert store after nice meals since there wasn't much places selling cakes along Maginhawa back then. But now, there has been more competition and it seems like Fancy was boxed out from the prime real estate. PROS: Once a week, they have a promo where they slash 50% off from their cakes; Endless coffee for P50.00; More cheesecake and cake choices; Cute crepe presentations where they write your name with syrup; Quirky interiors that Zooey Deschanel may approve. CONS: They've had a price increase since relocation; Serving size has gone smaller too. TL;DR: It's not really a unique experience, and you may find the servings not enough, but it's a good tambay place where you could get your stuff done.

But I do remember when Fancy Crepes and Cakes was the only spot in Maginhawa where you could get something fancier than McD's sundaes for dessert. Dark times those. Dark times. There's a certain delicacy to this place. Their crepes are the thinner French variety but that doesn't make them the lesser species of crepe. They're just the thing if you want something lighter or at least something to nibble on while hanging out with a friend or doing some work. And yes, they do have bottomless coffee. Where else can you get bottomless coffee for 50php? Caffeine coma, here I come. As Faye said, I was a little disappointed that their serving sizes seem to have gone down but eh, they still make good stuff. The I Love NY is still a personal favorite.

Two words make this branch of Cafe Breton not so stellar: No WiFi. In my opinion, every cafe should…read moreoffer free WiFi (I'm looking at you, Starbucks), or at least make sure that they're a good spot for cellular data. Unfortunately, only select spots in this branch will let you use your LTE. People work in cafes, and while I understand that customer turnaround is something that restaurants always strive for, cafes are where clients are supposed to be able to take their time relaxing or working. In my opinion, WiFi shouldn't be optional anymore for cafes. If the small indie cafe in Fairview called Read and Brew can offer decent Internet for their patrons, so should bigger establishments like Starbucks and Cafe Breton. What I do like about Breton is that their food is mostly consistent. I've tried my favorite tuna melt in several branches, including this one, and found it satisfying in every one of them. My crepe of choice is the Funtastyc, and bananas, being less consistent than tuna or mayonnaise, can vary from branch to branch. Unfortunately, the last time we were at this one, the bananas they used were a little bit sour--not good for a supposedly sinful dessert crepe with Nutella, ice cream, and a dash of alcohol. It's an okay branch to get your crepe fix from, but I do prefer the other Cafe Bretons.

I don't particularly like sweets in the morning but this café is my exception. I usually have fits of pleasure all throughout the meal whenever I'm here and every time it comes to a close, I make a silent promise to lessen my tapsilog breakfasts and make my food choices, ugh more refined (It hasn't happened yet) My refined choices are composed of the following: the Normandie and La Pinay crepe and a mug of cappuccino to knock it all down. I think Café Breton is perfect for a first breakfast date with a lover. You can start off with a crepe and then proceed to the hardy stuff (tapsilog, adsilog, chicksilog, longsilog) once the relationship is set. Eating a crepe just makes you look better, don't you think? Better oily lips from syrup than oily from tapa. The end.

The crowd was intense and there were queues everywhere even in places you would not expect. We were lucky enough to be living in the vicinity since we had accessible parking space and a resting area when we got tired of walking around. By dinner time, it was almost impossible to get anything to eat without an hour of wait time. A lot of the restaurants and kiosks have run out of food as well. My brother was there to save our stomachs by falling in line for about 3,572.21 hours and getting us some dinner crepes. PROS: They offer both savory and sweet crepes. I find the savory ones better and more interesting as crepes in the area are usually dessert fare; Cheap prices relative to most crepe places. CONS: The blueberry crepe had too much whipped crème and too little cream cheese; The place is a little cramped which is a good thing for the business but a little ugh for me. This is not just during the food fest but even on regular days. TL;DR: Your wallet-friendly crepe fix in a convenient location.

Crepeman tastes like those long afternoons in Miriam College's cafeteria where all I lived on were their tuna crepes and nothing else. What can I say, I was cheap and on a forced diet. Good to see some things never change. Crepeman still has some pretty good (and pretty indulgent) crepes. Having had enough of their savory crepes, I usually go back for the sweet crepes I missed out on. The chaos is a personal favorite. Good when you need that sugary kick and can't decide what exactly you want off their menu. What can I say? I like my fruit. Also, don't be afraid of pork floss. It's probably one of the best things ever and having it in a crepe? Even better.
