No cutlery or napkins on the tables. Food however was amazing. I had the eggs benedict which was delicious and my children both declared their sandwiches the best they had ever had. High praise indeed! When i went to pay at the end, the lady at the counter asked me what I thought. When i mentioned the service, she explained that someone had called in sick that day and they hadn't been able to replace them at such short notice. I'm glad of this, as it means they're not deliberately short-staffed, and the kids and I will definitely be back.

The staff invariably brought the wrong order to every table, that I saw. They then had the nerve to tell me that it was because I had switched tables! It was a freezing cold day and they had the cold air blower on. Plus the door doesn't swing shut so lots of people wandered in and out leaving it open to the elements. Needless to say, none of the numerous staff rushed to close it, and there is no sign asking patrons to do this. To the fare. The hot chocolate was lukewarm. The chorizo sausage roll had obviously been out for a number of days and was dry and completely tasteless. On that basis it was probably quite horrible to begin with. I clearly had had only one bite when the server came to take it away. She made a passing comment about whether i had enjoyed but had already left the table without waiting or caring for an answer. "does it COME with a side salad?" to which she responds... "yes" why would I NOT want it? Both were eaten in less than four small bites (ie the smallest sandwiches I have bought from a deli). the salad was very fresh and crisp... probably the better tasting (now I can understand the hesitation of the server to part with it). very expensive for a sandwich shop, but plenty of cool hipsters around. Loud and suggested for customers to hear that they could at least stack their used crockery etc. Quite ignorant attitude. The milk jug I had on several visits had not been washed and so there was a rim of crusted old milk on the inside of the spout of the jug. Yuk! I will try to avoid unless I am caught in a snow storm etc. Decor boring and bland. They do not allow dogs, even on the patio, which means they lose out on many customers who are walking or on bikes which is popular in this area. I am sure the place could make more of the business if they made more of an effort and had better hygiene and attitude. Not the sort of place you would want to meet for a coffee with a frient etc. Much better to go to the Herb Farm on the road to Reading for an attractive setting, good fresh food and friendly staff and facilities. Dogs are welcome in the restaurant and outside in the garden as well.
