I have been to Cafe Class already for lunch and so far, I am a really big fan; Their Paninis are VERY good and the price are pretty cheap for what they serve; So far, my favorite one was the bacon, brie and cranberry. Just so delicious. I also had their tuna/corn melt paninis and that was definitely a hit for me! I never got a chance to try their cake but they certainly do look pretty tasty! Just a heads up, plan to wait a little if you go to pick up for lunch as the wait is usually 15 - 20 minutes :) read more

I'm happy to give five stars to this coffehouse/restaurant. My friends and I went for lunch today, and everything was excellent. The soup du jour was carrot ginger, non-dairy. Delicious, and the four of us all agreed. Also enjoyed was the tuna and sweetcorn sandwich with thinly sliced picked cucumbers on olive bread, a sun blushed tomato and greens, and a bacon and brie with cranberries. All sandwiches come with tender greens on the side. One friend got an espresso, which she rated "A+." The service was very nice and friendly. Very casual and comfortable. Oh yes, free wifi. Cafe Class is a nice, no frills wee cafe in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh. It serves up cheap cups of tea and coffee, panini's generously packed with the filling of your choice and full Scottish breakfasts for under a fiver. The decor is welcoming and pleasant - nothing too fancy but that's ideal if you're just stopping by for a nice cup of tea. It's clean, fresh and the food is good. There are a few tables but it's equally as good for a take away. But the best thing about Cafe Class is they are open later into the evening than most diners of this description, making it perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat before the pub or a visit to the nearby Cameo cinema. The cafe is small, but they have good food and coffee. I had the morning roll and a vanilla latte. Both were amazing and very tasteful. Sopping wet, I sought refuge in this little place. Whilst the deluge of rain continued outside, I plonked myself on at one of their little tables, wary of soaking my neighbours like a wet dog. After I was settled, I didn't feel cramped at all. This place is one of the few places that have a great chai tea latte (from a bag/leaf, instead of a powder). Warm, spicy and with a drizzle of honey, perfect. If nothing else, I will be returning here for that! I also ordered a baked potato with cheese and beans, expecting the generic fare offered by most places. I can honestly say I was taken aback (in a good way) by the presentation. Quite impressed with this wee place - everything is cooked from fresh and there's a wide selection of pasta dishes, salads, bake potatoes, sandwiches, homemade soup and paninis! With your bizarre salsa covers of pop hits like Beat It on the radio, and your oddly cluttered and homely shop floor, you are an oddball of the highest order. I like oddballs. I also like hot chocolate, and if a hot chocolate arrived with a giant chocolate wafer-straw stuck in the mountain of cream - well, I'm going to be a happy lady. Especially if the chappy who brings it over also seems happy, which he does. I like happy people. And yes, if the hot chocolate itself is not the finest, the wafer straw still makes me happy. Mr LG now lives in Edinburgh, so, we decided to take a little afternoon stroll through the West End of Edinburgh and explore the area a bit. But we were hungry first of all and fancied some brunch. The first thing that drew us in was the fact that they did breakfast until 5pm. So, in we went and sat down at one of their quaint little tables. We both ordered an all day breakfast and it took a while to come, but when it did come, it was the best breakfast ever. Not only was it nicely presented, it was really very good. The sausages were brilliant,the beans weren't all that mushy way cheap beans can sometimes go. The bacon was lovely and crispy and the haggis was amazing. There was so much breakfast, I couldn't eat it all. Not only was this breakfast amazing, it showed me there was some definite cultural difference between the east coast of Scotland and the west. Like, for example, if I was having a fry up at home in Glasgow, I would have lorne sausage and black pudding. But in the east coast, they have sausages and haggis. Haggis for breakfast is the best thing I've ever heard of anyway. And the east coast potato scones are strange too. All in all an amazing breakfast experience that I will surely relive. read more

Was in the area the other day and needing nutrition so decided to finally go in and try this place. Took a seat in one of the leather sofas, started relaxing in the cozy atmosphere and then had a really hard time deciding what to eat. Even though it was almost 4pm, the selection was good. The nice gentleman behind the counter helped there, and I decided to try the risotto. Service was quick, food was delicious with balsanic oil on top that made it even better, and a great serving for my famished state. coffee was good and deserts looked divine but I bravely resisted the temptation there. I've had the chance to stop by Cafe Class a few times as my good friend works across the street and it's a very convenient place for us to go to for lunch. The cafe has very welcoming decor and friendly service. I've had their soups a number of times and have never been disappointed. Their sandwiches are good and I enjoyed the club sandwich, especially with the tasty bean pate. They do a really good olive bread with hummus, which I recommend. I keep telling myself that one day I'm going to have some cake from there... they all look extremely tempting, but I somehow run out of time... one day. read more

This is my review and I'll whine if I want to. Whine if I want to. Whine if I want to. You would whine too if you were gluten intolerant. Ok, so not everyone can cater to us poor schmucks who can't eat their food. It's fine. There are sometimes things I can eat, depending on time of day. And sometimes there is a gluten free cake. This review started with food but it's not about food. I was just whetting your appetite, like mine is when I meet people here for coffee and I see what I can't have. Espresso, that is what this review is about. If you don't care about the coffee, by all means skip on and read other reviews on food and tea and cake. But if you have the tastebuds for coffee, if you could blindfold yourself and taste four or five different coffees, put them in order from instant to a fine espresso (a mediocre espresso is ranked right above instant because it is so much more of a letdown), then you know when you've had good coffee. Being from SF, I am used to being thought of as a wine snob. But what is lesser known about me/us is the degree to which we are absolutely as*holes about coffee. SF birthed Blue Bottle, Four Barrel, & Bicycle for cryin out loud. It would be outrageous to get a coffee that sucked in SF-that's what the competition is: you start to despise even the really good stuff because there is extraordinary just around the corner. And I'm not talking grass is greener. I mean it. Ok, sidetrack over. Sorry. I HAVEN'T actually had my coffee yet this morning. Man, I am a raging...So the coffee at Class is "eh." Once it was "not bad" which is worse. It's what I say when I don't want to sound like the complainer I am. And one bad coffee and I'm gone forever. Extremely cute, cozy cafe a couple minutes walk from the Sheridan Hotel where we are staying while in town. I wanted a nicely crafted mocha and this place delivered hands down. One thing that I have to highlight is the cheese cake... absolutely heavenly. I grabbed a slice of the vanilla and it was one of the best food decisions I've made here this far. Love this place!! We went they for breakfast on Sunday morning (during fringe) was busy but we welcomed to sit and wait for a table to become available. Table became ready, cleared and clean, we were taken over with menus. Order drinks and breakfast. Drinks arrived very quickly then our breakfast shortly followed. I had delicious coffee and veg brekky. My husband had full Scottish, only complaint was he didn't like the parsley scattered all over his brekky. Cosy and comfy cafe. Very comfortable sofa and armchairs, fresh sunflowers on the tables and lovely staff makes you want to spend there all day. This is my favourite place! The staff are so lovely! I come in with my young baby quite often now and they are always so sweet to him. Really lovely, eclectic decor and the cakes are all made there and are the best cakes in the world! The coffee is lovely too, they have a deal wherein you get a coffee and cake for £4.50. It doesn't extend to tea though which is my only minor criticism! Can't praise this place enough! Not often there is a free table, really popular but when there is, it's just great! It only loses a star because it opens at 10am on weekdays so I can't get my morning coffee here if needed.
