Nice café in a lovely location on the Mound. The views from the windows are great, looking over Princes Street and Gardens. The place is quite large inside, with plenty of seating. We chose some comfortable sofas near the entrance. We each had a latte and a traybake, and everything went down well. The coffee was particularly good- not too strong or bitter. Although the traybake selection was decent, I would like to see more cakes available. Overall, very decent place in an excellent location, with very nice coffee.

Limited seating inside. We both got the oink size on white bread with mustard mayo - one with sage & onion stuffing, and one with haggis stuffing. Both were so delicious. The pork was so juicy and tender. The sage & onion stuffing and haggis stuffing both added an extra layer of flavor. We also loved the mustard mayo sauce.

There is usually a line outside this simple restaurant but possibly due to the light rain, the line was fairly short when I went. I only waited for like 5 minutes. The menu is simple as the roasted hog/pig is the only thing on the menu. You can choose a few things to customize the sandwich or even order it in a box. I ordered the Oink size (medium) on wheat bread and chose sage and onion for my topping and then the Homemade Mustard Mayo for the sauce. They make it in front of you and it is fresh and very tasty. Unfortunately when I went they were out of cracklings. They wrap it in foil and hand it to you. Pretty simple and efficient. I love that the outside of the building is painted pink like a pig (coincidence? Probably not). This is a good place to try for a quick, cheap and yummy sandwich. They do this one thing very well. It's the kind of place you feel like there is a positive vibe both from a service perspective and from an employment perspective that pervades the essence of the service. But also, these were just lovely people. The food was phenomenal. I had the hot italian panini toasted and my daughter had the millionaires shortbread (which means covered in caramel and chocolate!) Both were terrific. The sandwich was hot, both in temperature and spice levels, with a great texture, an herby pesto, gooey cheese, and delicious hot peppers. I was convinced to give the Irn Brew a shot. "As Scottish as haggis!" he said. I'm not sure I loved the Scottish soda but I was glad for the adventure and the Scottish experience! In an area popular with tourists there are often many places where the service is not amazing because they know you may never come back and their employers are focused on churning as many people through as possible. In those places it often seems more time is spent on the descriptions of the food and advertising than the food and experience itself. Or, there are chains, like the Starbucks literally right there. This was not the case. This place was special. The food and the people compete for excellence (although the people win in my opinion!) If you miss this, you are missing out. We are leaving the early tomorrow and I want to try and get there for breakfast! Just terrific.

Staff seem a tad harried at times, but they are kind and polite, and take the time to explain the menu if you want them to. FYI, there's a sign saying there's no laptops allowed. The menu switches at 12pm, but the Full Scottish Breakfast is on both. I tried it and it was fabulous. The "Luxury Hot Chocolate" was honestly kind of meh from a taste perspective. Felt like American powdered, sugary hot chocolate (as contrasted with European dark, hot chocolate). But the presentation was to die for. See photo. They seem known for their cake. I tried that on one visit, blueberry and lemon, and it was great. Moist, flavorful, and decadent. And not a massive portion, which I appreciate. Bathrooms: Basement level. Decently clean and functional. Medium spaciousness.

Not my favorite and I know it's tough to compare with avocado toast in California Maybe next time I'd try their blueberry pancakes? Or maybe try Scran which is next door?

I came in for a coffee and (read: redeeming quality, I swear I am a good person) paid for a few extra coffees to pay it forward. Gosh I love the concept. But the coffee was just AWFUL. I knew it the second the cup of burnt milk touched my hands and I couldn't hold it for longer than a few seconds without swapping hands. It was unbearable and I won't live my life drinking bad coffee. I went around the corner and threw it in the bin. Its a fantastic concept really, but the coffee needs to be at least halfway decent. Nobody deserves to drink what I had in my burnt little hands. I'm willing to give it another try, but I struggle to to believe one can bounce back from that- it wasn't an off day, it was an awful coffee.

I have been here twice now, and the food has been great. The first time I had a chicken curry that was the special of the day. It was a big portion size and I probably wouldn't have complained if it was bigger since it tasted so good. Most recently I took advantage of their lunch deal: soup + sandwich or wrap + piece of fruit for only 4.95. My chicken fajita wrap was tasty, but I most enjoyed the carrot and orange soup... so good.
