Both the fish and the falafel were not fully cooked; the crust on the fish was soggy, the fish was undercooked , and the falafel was primarily gooey. We ate some but rapidly lost our appetites, so I told our waitress that we couldn't eat it. She came back awhile later and said that the salad with the falafel was removed from our bill, so I paid and left as soon as I could... after paying for the fish and chips and two drinks. We left feeling hungry as we didn't eat the salad or the fish, and very disappointed after paying the bill, we didn't want to spend more money on our lunch. Not wanting to return, I decided that I'd write a review to hopefully save others from the disappointment and disgust that my wife and I experienced.

I went here on the weekend with a fellow Yelper and boy was I impressed! It only took us about 10-15 minutes to be seated as we came as a pair (much to the dismay of larger groups who momentarily considered abandoning their friends and families in favour of food). We were seated at a pretty little table in the window, perfect for watching the world go by on this sunny Sunday, as we waited for our food. We both order the has - me going for the Mexican one with guac and salsa (and a side of bacon... shh!) and my friend going for the Farmhouse, I believe. It wasn't a long wait for the food to arrive, considering how packed the place was, and we were content waiting with our Americanos and gossip. The food arrived looking and smelling incredible and, upon tasting, it did not disappoint! My hash was spicy, filling and unusual (in a good way) and I only managed about half of it before asking for a doggy bag. For a mere £8 (or thereabouts) you get at least double portions, I'd say and this is coming for a girl not afraid of finishing her plate! I was so impressed with it - it really hit the spot! The staff were friendly too, while rushed off their feet, and my total (hash, with added bacon, and coffee) came to around £10, which is not bad at all considering I took practically a full meal home with me as well. I really loved my experience here! I felt as if I was in NYC brunching in style, but without those measly portions! This is hearty, tasty food, served with a smile in a very pretty (albeit busy) little cafe! Go and it try it please!!!

After a long walk from Brighton Marina to the Pier, and a lot of shopping in The Lanes, we were ready for an Afternoon Tea! This Tea Shop is in the heart of "The Lanes", a picturesque location amidst brightly coloured shops, cafes and restaurants, in narrow, winding alleyways that make for a unique shopping area. It was lucky we went in at 4.30pm... They close at 5pm, but we were welcomed in as one of the last guests before they announced they were closed. It also meant we not only got a table, but the place started clearing out before we'd finished, so we ended up being the last customers, which was nice. It's a cute, cozy little tea shop, pretty on the outside and inside, with pictures of Brighton on the walls and an eclectic mixture of teapots, milk jugs and cups. It had been many years since I'd last had a "cream tea" and this didn't disappoint. We ordered some fruit scones and some plain scones (both were yummy but I recommend the fruit ones - the raisins & sultanas are really plump and juicy!). We also tried our scones both ways - cream then jam (the Devon way), and jam then cream (the Cornish way)... I'd been brought up the Devon way, but discovered the Cornish way is actually more to my liking! Both were yummy! We didn't buy any cakes, but the cakes (as well as the scones) are made fresh daily and looked delicious. And I must say, the tea itself was fresh and superior quality - loose leaf English breakfast, rather than bagged, really makes a difference. Our server was very sweet and friendly, and then, at the end, since we were the last customers, the shop owner came out to talk to us, and was super friendly and welcoming... She asked where we were from (always fun, as I'm British, but my husband and daughter are American). Despite it being the end of her day, she didn't rush us out at all, and enjoyed chatting with us. We cancelled our table reservation at Food For Friends to eat here. On our way to said restaurant on a freezing cold November evening we stumbled across this little gem of a cafe. We were impressed by the blankets placed across the chairs outside for those feeling chilly. We figured any cafe that would be as thoughtful as this must be a good one. Lured in by the flickering candle light we poked our heads in to have a look. It was so inviting we cancelled our reservation and opted for a simpler option for our evening meal. Quality food and a nice simple menu. Just what the doctor ordered after a days sight seeing round Brighton. The decor and general feel is very relaxed, rustic and romantic. Perfect. Just a couple of things that would make Coho A*. As a vegetarian who's 'trying' to give up dairy i couldn't see a sandwich option that caters for vegans so had to reluctantly order the mozzarella and pesto. Would you consider doing a veg and pesto/hummus option? Upstairs is fab, with a pretty view across the lanes. We appreciated the radio but would have preferred to listen to the music you had playing down stairs. Is there any way you could this? It was quite irritating having the radio playing over music from downstairs, with that and the general chatter from other customers it was quite annoying. Will be back without a doubt! read more

Visited cafe coho 8th Jan on a w/e trip to Brighton. We ordered two double flatties and a couple of really tasty foccacia sandwiches. We were not let down - taste and presentation both excellent......... I'm a big fan of Union coffee anyway!!! We were greeted by the owner who told me they had recently opened. Seating outside, inside and on the first floor with views over the street (great for people watching). Really interesting chap with bags of enthusiam for his product. The coffee shop has been refurbished to a v high standard and looks great with it's feature brick wall, hand written black boards and counter/tables made out of relclaimed floor joists and boards. If you're in Brighton its well worth a visit! No qype promo but owner said he would get one listed asap. read more

Four main reasons to like Cafe Coho. Ambiance Location Service and more importantly, the coffee and food. The staff are simply lovely and provide a great atmosphere in a place which is perfectly located for a coffee/tea break from shopping or a promenade walk. It caters to a very wide range of age groups in a very relaxing, stylish, rustic and yet traditional way. I visited with my son and parents and was able to satisfy a broad range of beverage and food preferences very easily. Now I have found it, I will certainly visit the cafe more often when I feel like taking 20 minutes out of a hectic day to relax and forget about things for a while. read more

We found the cafe quite by chance and it was just great. We had the best coffee we have had for a long time and my partner, who is particularly hard to please on the coffee front, professed it a 'excellent cup'. Praise indeed let me tell you! The cake, Apricot and cinnamon was very tasty and moist too. I was only sorry we didn't enough of an appetite to try the sandwiches as it was a little to close to breakfast. Been in a few times now and have had perfect cappuccino without fail! Unlike other places that do a take away capuccio with foam that ends up looking like soap suds by the time you get it to work, this one was spot on and nice and strong too! The decor's very stylish and the staff have always been very friendly and are obviously well trained as baristas. Also, when my wife asked the manager about provisions for gluten free customers, he was really enthusiastic and helpful. read more

I'd had a recommendation to try to find Leman Tea Room and it was well worth the quick walk. The owner kindly let me in and it was bliss. So warm and toasty, and adorably decorated. I ordered a slice of their spinach and banana cake, and a cup of tea. Both were just what I needed. The cake was fresh, handmade, and not too sweet at all. I polished it down with my little teapot of tea. The owner left me alone to my thoughts and to warm up at my own pace, never hurrying me. I love little finds like this, with plenty of the owner's and local character throughout!

Thankfully they were, and we got to book a table by the lovely central fireplace. What I didn't expect was to discover that it's a superb Sunday Roast establishment! Full disclosure: I am extremely picky about Sunday roast quality. I love them. It is one of my favourite times of the week. On the menu, and I'm assuming here that this was a special Sunday menu, were three choices for meat eaters: chicken, beef and pork. There was still a full regular menu (inc delicious starters) so veggies/fishies are still catered for, but it would have been nice to see a veg nut roast or similar. I ordered the chicken. It was delicious: a full supreme cut, more juicy than I've ever had. The skin was crisp and herbed to perfection: tarragon I think, though i didn't ask. The accompanying vegetables were also cooked to perfection, and a real strong variety of greens and root veg. Roast potatoes were chunky and lovely. Yorkshire was spot on. Gravy was real, could have been a little more of it, though I also should have asked. On leaving I asked what time they usually serve roasts until: 3:30pm unless there are events. If you fancy change from Sunday at the pub, you won't go far wrong. We've eaten there before incidentally, and can thoroughly recommend the place generally. It's delightfully low key and not crazy expensive for a restaurant of such high standards.
