For a seaside eatery in the thick of touristy madness, Lucky Beach is surprisingly quaint, affordable, and high quality. The beer, cocktail, soft drink, and coffee offerings are excellent and the food is globally inspired and locally sourced. Though the Brits aren't exactly good exciting tacos or anything labeled "spicy", Lucky Beach gets an A for effort. The emphasis on quality ingredients make each dish superb and despite the lack of authenticity, delicious nonetheless. Many years ago, I had relocated to Brighton. At that time, the craziest thing you could find on a menu was stroganoff. Here it is 10 years later and things have changed. Came here and we were pleasantly surprised at the menu. We started with the avocado toast which was delicious. We both ended with the fish and chips. Chips were excellent. Fish - his was great. Came here because we wanted to eat fish and chips, once we were in Brighton and we weren't disappointed. The fish was crispy and fresh, we got mushed peas as well which were delicious. First time in Brighton, this was very decent fish and chips. The fish was obviously very fresh, the batter light and the fries very crispy. I should say that I was attending to this place because I've heard it was the best fish and chips, but it was such a disappointment. Maybe the fish came from a Dead Sea. Plus, the service was awfull. I've been told by one waitress that I can sit outside, and then, a second one came and ask me to leave (I didn't, obviously) because the table was set for someone else. The fish'n'chips had the same taste than a fast food one, nothing to make you fall on the ground. Anyway, so the food was good, nothing big actually, my chips were fine, even if the meat above was a bit dry. The water didn't taste good, actually, the only good thing was the view and the mood which is related to the place: on the beach. This beachside restaurant does amazing with flavor, but at the expense of portion size, affordability, and service. Our party of 4 all ordered fish and chips and a drink each after hearing some great reviews. A respectable interval later, no more than ten minutes, and we are all presented with our fish. So far so good all the food arrives hot and looking delicious. This struck us as odd since in the interval, not one of us had received a beverage. The fish looked nice enough, and smelled it, only, instead of a nice large fillet or a few smaller pieces, we are each presented with what could not be more than 80g of fish on top of a few dozen fries. Rather than let out food grow cold, we dug in. The fish was delicious, and the seasoning was crazy good, but there was no lemon or ketchup, and the few drops of tartar sauce we received were barely enough for half the already dismal portion. Upon asking for condiments, the server assented, and then went back to the kitchen. She was not seen again until we got our check. Another 6 or 7 minutes later and finally our drinks make it to the table - a different waitress. Of course, by this point we'd all finished the fish and most of the chips. While that doesn't detract from how well mixed the cocktails were, and how cold the ciders, it did make the experience much less enjoyable. It's a tough choice between all those beach front cafes at this main stretch of Brighton Beach - this was truly a lucky choice! The weather was gorgeous and I was lucky to find a seat on the terrace (there is further seating indoors and in an area immediately out front, but further from the surf). While some places seem to be tourist traps offering overpriced fish and chips, Lucky Beach seems more like Brighton proper and I duly opted for a vegan wrap and Elderflower drink. My friend and I went for breakfast here. She has been here before and proper vouched. We were too early in so we had to wait till the staff has laid out the tables and chairs outside. The staff were nice enough to let us hang about. We both had their full English breakfast and it was so good! Note attention to detail and yes, the bacon was crispy. Even the coffee was spot on. This place is a proper hidden gem! I came in from a cold and wind swept brighton beach hoping to find a place to hide away and get a sandwich. After looking at the menu I opted for brunch instead. Super organic fair with an artistic twist to it. Will take you through what I had and review each... Esspresso - yum. I've been in brighton a while now and it is sometimes difficult to get a good Esspresso which isn't burned. The Esspresso I had here was delicious and sweet. Not a bitter note in sight. Eggs benedict - two poached eggs and sour dough toast with smashed peas and slow cooked ham hock. Was garnished beautifully with edible flowers. Melt in your mouth good and really well balanced flavours. I then had a cup of tea to round things off. Even that was better than expected. You get a little pot of tea but the presentation is super cute with a mini - bottle of milk coming with it. I'll be here for brunch again. Tasty food and fast, friendly service. But not clean. While I was there, only two other patrons came in, both with dogs. Ok, that's not great already. But the second man had three large dogs with him and proceeded to smoke not three feet away from me (he was on the open beach side; I was on the "in"side). Yes, they were on leashes and well-behaved. But bringing three large dogs into a restaurant is really too much. Then, one of the waitresses took a table knife (presumably one that customers also use), knelt down and started scraping black crud, dirt and leaves out of the crack in the floor between the inner and outer sections of the restaurant--that is, also only a few feet away from me--and depositing it on the floor for me to look at, before sweeping it up with a broom. I gently suggested that this wasn't the nicest thing to do while I was eating, but she continued. It really turned my stomach. Otherwise, the cappuccino and vege plate were excellent, and the price was fair. read more

I went early afternoon and there was more people sitting outside than inside. I chose to sit next to the register thinking I would be able to order, eat, and leave quickly. But I was wrong. I waited a long time to even get even get a menu and the waitress never wiped down the dirty table. My meal didn't take very long to come though. Food - I ordered the crab and avocado bruschetta and it was great! Didn't fill me up but I enjoyed the sweet siracha and crab. Drink - I wanted to try the watermelon soda thinking it would be sweet. I've finally gotten around to having a Lucky Beach burger, and BOY am I impressed. I was pretty famished earlier and couldn't be bothered to go out for lunch so I thought I'd opt for a deliveroo, and noticed Lucky Beach. Now everyone I've met that has been has raved about the place, not to mention the great reviews here on Yelp. I really fancied a burger, although I am aware that burgers don't usually travel too well. After seeing the list of delicious sounding burgers available, I thought I'd risk it. I ended up choosing the LBB (Lucky Beach Burger) 1/3lb dry-aged local organic sussex beef, kombu cheddar cheese fondue, ketchup leather (not sure what the leather part is), lardo fried onions and housemade pickles in a truffle bun. Also comes with fries. Decadent! I made my order and it arrived within 25 mins. Speedy service! The fries were a little cold but that was to be expected, so I gave them a quick blast in the microwave. I'm neither here nor there when it comes to fries, but it must be said these were really tasty, decent fries. Just the right sized portion for me too. I don't know about you, but when I have a burger I don't like to have too many fries, too filling and you end up not having enough room for the burger. Now on to the burger itself. I'm just going to put this out there right now that Lucky Beach could give Burger Brothers a run for its money, and that's saying something!! The truffle bun had a lovely texture, it didn't crumble upon eating, and it held the burger well. The beef patty itself was extremely tasty, very flavourful and cooked medium, just how I like them. The kombu cheddar fondue was really nice and something I've never had before. The lardo fried onions were sweet, tangy and not too greasy. I liked the size of the burger too, as in Ben H's review, it's just the right size so that you don't end up in a mess or having to dismantle it with a knife and fork. All in all I have to say I'm extremely impressed, the quality for me was great even though the burger had to travel! I can only imagine how good they would be in the restaurant, and I am looking forward to paying them a visit either for breakfast (which is also meant to be fantastic) or another burger! read more

Lucky Beach is hands down my favourite breakfast spot in Brighton. What can be better than sitting on the seafront soaking up the sun and sipping on delicious eldiflower bellinis whilst you wait for an excellent full english which will certainly not disapoint. Lucky are proud of their food heritage, if its local and organic they are interested. They use ony the best quality produce and their plate presentation reflects their passion. The breakfast menu runs til 12 when Lucky Beach becomes Burger heaven. The burgers are well sought after and very tasty & filling. For me breakfast is the best as Lucky Beach is so ideally located (when the weather is good) that in my opinion you cant hope to start the day a better way. The staff (always loads of them) can be a little slow at times but thats never caused any problems for me and they are always friendly (and helpful when we've been in there a little worse for wear and struggling to make decisions!). I'd strongly recommend Lucky Beach any time of the day but personly, if I'd like to treat myself then its breakfast, coffee and that all important bellini in the early morning sunshine. read more

I love it here, I never thought I would find a burger to rival burger brothers in town but lucky beach may have just nicked ahead for me. The 'jam' in the burgers give a great sweetness that I love and the burgers are just the right size so you can eat them without getting in a complete mess with a great bun that holds together well. The other dishes we have tried have all been tasty also. The fries with blue cheese and bacon are great but you do feel like you need a wash afterwards as they are really dirty! But in a good way Great place to spend the afternoon drinking also, the sangria is particularly refreshing. The staff are great, very friendly and chatty. They seem to take a similar hiring approach to Holister (think young buff and good looking) which is very easy on the eye. Only tiny minor point is the wait outside the toilets is like waiting in a sauna as its right above the kitchen but thinking about the poor guys in the kitchen slaving for your satisfaction means you can overlook this Check it out, especially on a sunny day! read more

I adore Lucky Beach! The staff took pity on a very hungover me who couldn't make the all-important indoor/outdoor seating decision and led us to the indoor arch where we could look out over the sea. The brunch was incredible. We had the crabmeat bruschetta and the eggs Benedict and they looked like something a Michelin starred chef would serve (even sprinkled with flower petals!). One thing we liked was the page in the menu that told you about the sourcing of everything they served...along with where they got their recycled furniture from! Katy and I both discussed how we don't actually spend very much time in the touristy bit of Brighton, particularly on the end of the beach near West Street. Because of all the people on holiday, the hot weather, and the change of scenery, we couldn't help but feel like we were also on vacation. We sat and watched people go by and Poppy got loads of attention from both passerby, fellow customers and the staff at Lucky Beach. We each ordered a drink. I had the pomegranate and mint lemonade which was super refreshing. Katy went for a passionfruit mojito which I didn't try but she really enjoyed. For food Katy took one for the team and ordered gluten free so I could have a taste of her "Super Diablo" burger, which was stuffed with poblano peppers, cheddar, extra-hot burnt green chilli butter, pickled red onions and sauce. I found it to be quite spicy, but not in a burn-your-tastebuds way. The flavour was pleasant. On the flip side, Katy didn't find it spicy enough. She wanted something REALLY spicy. I went for the more tame Sussex Shorthorn burger, which contained roasted fig jam, toasted hazelnuts, crispy streaky bacon, melted mature cheddar, and ketchup leather. Katy tried mine and said that I "won" and that she would order the same next time. It was very delicious. The fig jam really brought an interesting flavour to what could have been a standard bacon cheeseburger. And don't be put off by Ketchup leather. It's a bit like a strip of ketchup and looks a bit like a bit of candy, but I didn't notice the texture. At first, Katy ordered a side salad, but quickly became drawn in by the chips with their garlic mayo dip, so we had an order rushed over to us. Unfortunately, the chips are cooked in the same oil as the battered fish, so I could not give them a try. Katy seemed to like them though, devouring the chips and exclaiming over the garlic mayo. Overall it was a more than decent experience with a price to match. Food on the beach can be a bit of a cash grab and a tourist trap, but it didn't set us back any more than if we'd gone to any other similar restaurant in the city. And for a seat near the water on a hot summer's evening, it certainly can't be beaten. read more

This is definitely one of Brighton's hidden gems; really awesome, healthy food with tons of vegan + vegetarian options. The service is another notable quality-my friend order something she wasn't satisfied with, and our server was more than happy to void it and take her order for something else! I had the vegan BLT with fries which was an awesome choice and I don't think I would have known it was vegan unless someone told me. The last thing is the environment. We were sitting outside as it was a beautiful day, but the interior of this place is incredible. Totally unique in the best way! If I'm ever back in Brighton this will be my first stop! read more

I know most people who actually live in Brighton give this strip of bars and restaurants a miss as they are usually packed with tourists, but I urge you all to go to Lucky Beach. The staff are really friendly (if a little disorganised when it gets very busy...and it does on a sunny day) but they will go out of their way to make it a visit worth it and are keen that you have a good time. My first visit was on a cold day and the owner invited us in for hot chocolate...my daughter wanted ice-cream which he didn't have but said he'd save us a table upstairs in the window in the warmth whilst we grabbed one from a few doors up. Very kind and the hot chocolates were very welcome. I've been back twice for brunch...perfect...my only wish was that the bacon was a little more crispy...if the bacon was crispy Lucky Beach would be a 5 star place! read more

Been to this place twice now and had their fish and chips served in enamel dishes, it's a great atmosphere, there are tables on the beach and outside in the sun under umbrellas as well as inside, they do get busy but you get served really well. They do the Aperol Spritz which is great on a sunny day, the Italian version of Campari and soda, (doesn't taste quite as bitter as Campari) book if you can but they'll do their best to seat you if you turn up ad-hoc. i've been here a few times, and each time i've enjoyed the food. i will say it's quite expensive, but on the beach front i guess that's to be expected. the portion size is massive, to the point where i think they would benefit from just serving less at a slightly lower price. while it was very nice, i don't like paying a lot for a meal i end up leaving half of, as well as it being wasteful. i know it's not much of a USP in brighton as there are so many vegan friendly restaurants and cafes but i can't help but be impressed when i find somewhere that does good vegan food after years of eating very plain options at restaurants. i also really liked the coffee here, and they were very welcoming with my dog. read more
