    Wiener Schnitzel with potatoes
    Steve C.

We ate here for lunch one day, and it is a bit pricey for lunch. I had the Original Wiener schnitzel (pork) with the traditional side of boiled parsley coated potatoes. The dish actually comes with two schnitzels. The breading on the schnitzel was the picture perfect golden brown color. The meat itself was a bit dry and devoid of much flavor. There was a cranberry sauce that added a nice flavor to the pork. The potatoes were perfect. My wife had the chicken schnitzel, and it had a lot more flavor and was somewhat juicy. Their desserts looked awesome, but, unfortunately, we were too full to partake in any dessert. Service was excellent, and the restaurant has a sophisticated, yet very comfortable atmosphere.

Service is not that good This is supposed to be the oldest cafe in Vienna, this building was a medieval bathhouse

This place provided the authenticity and flavor we were looking for. Accommodatingly warm and delicious, it's what the family was looking for. Service was good, dinner was great, coffee and pastries hit the spot. All in all we had a very pleasant time. This is not your typical tourist trap (read Cafe Mozart) it's more of a local spot.

A nice cafe in the city centre with a bit of history and attitude. We stopped here for lunch and I had a salad of breaded chicken breast. The salad was excellent and quite filling and it tasted really good. The portions were big and everyone enjoyed their meals. Would happily come back here if I am in Vienna again.

The red velvet couches that line the sides of the cafe make for a cozy, old vibe. The booths leave you with a bit of privacy and the old linen curtains along the windows make you think you are right at Oma's House. If you are just staying for a drink or coffee, the beautiful granite table will remain unclothed. However of you do decide to feast, the waiter in his suit will come over with a monogrammed tablecloth and set the table. The menu comes on the same wooden holder that the newspapers do and tells you about the history as well. Drinks -Cappuccino: ehh. Not good. Just burnt milk atop bitter coffee. Not good at all. But I did enjoy the small Milka Chocolate that accompanied it. Entrees -Schwein im Speckhemd (tenderloin wrapped in bacon): despite screaming oink oink, the meat was tender, flavorful and juicy. But it was raw pork to the EXTREME! The beans could have been cooked more but they are nice with the sauce and the individual peas pop out from time to time. The fries are fine: crispy and hot. Overall, ok. Desserts -Zwetschkenstrudel (plum strudel): mmm like an apple strudel but with plums. The plums are both sweet and tart--the perfect ratio. The dough is nicely moist and melts in your mouth. It's lovely. FINAL VERDICT: the oldest coffee house is also one of the most expensive Kaffeehauser in the city. I enjoyed the atmosphere and time spent, but I would prefer cooked meat and better coffee. The sweets though, delicious!

A tour guide recommended this place for Viennese chocolate cake. Apparently it's one of the oldest cafe in Vienna. If you love American chocolate cake that is moist and very sugary, then you might not like this. It's not too sweet and more bready, almost like a soft biscotti cookie. I really liked the texture and taste. The layer of chocolate on top was also super delicious, melted in your mouth and was super fresh.

    Part of Breakfast for two

Besides being eminently historic, the cafe is quiet, with great service and huge servings. The Breakfast for two could feed four. The yogurt and fresh fruit was good, breads, marmalade, jam, Nutella, honey and cream cheese with chives sure to please. My companions enjoyed their eggs and breakfast meats and cheeses. The tea and coffee were delicious and the serving plates, cups and tiered plates were all attractive. The decorations are historic, but it was maintained with fresh paint and upholstery. The booth configuration in a natural "U", was much more roomy and comfortable that other cafes. It was nice to have coat racks right next to the table. The selection of newspapers is also good.

    Booth style seating.

We waited in the takeout line for about 15 minutes and ate the best Kaiserschmarrn ever! Something I didn't even know existed until visiting Vienna. Highly recommend checking out this spot!

We were directed to go upstairs and found an open seat in no time at all. Just passing by all the display cases filled with desserts and pastries triggered the cravings. We did a quick menu perusal but really knew that we wanted to try the kaiserschmarrn which was a traditional Austrian dessert made up torn up pancakes, served with a plum compote and dusted with powdered sugar. It was light, had a nice caramelized flavor from browning in the pan and little pops of more sweetness from the raisins. It was so delicious that we came back the next day for more but shortcut the line and got it to go from the takeaway window. Same kaiserschmarrn but around 3 Euros cheaper for a larger serving. After eating we wanted around the restaurant and towards the back you can see just how the cooks juggled making many pans of Kaiserschmarrn at the same time. Yes it's a bit pricey but so tasty to try at least once.

Loved the decor, made me feel like we were transported back in time. Our waiter came, dressed in his formal clothing despite the heat outside, and took our order. For me, an espresso, for my wife, a chocolate cake and water. My coffee was delivered on a neat little tray with a glass of water to go along with it. The waiter then pretty much left us alone as we took our time eating and drinking. Pricewise, the cafe seemed similar to other coffee shops we had visited during our trip. So why not more stars? Largely because the food being offered isn't vegan friendly. Maybe that is due to tradition, fine I understand that if that's the case, but I've heard that there are other traditional cafes in Vienna that do have vegan options. Just give me one. That's all I'm asking.
