We've been coming to this restaurant regularly for at least five years and we always have a great experience. The food is fresh, delicious and great for us vegetarians. Service is friendly and efficient and the space (including the restroom) is very clean. We now enjoy dining here even more since the back patio opened providing al fresco dining. Delicious organic indian food. Been here twice now and the food is consistently good and spiced to perfection. I wish there was a place like Cafe Lotus in SF where the kitchen uses high quality ingredients and does not take shortcuts. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Channa Masala with some Naan. The dishes came out piping hot and were tasteful in every sense. This place seems popular amongst families in Marin as well as people ordering take-out. Eating in the restaurant is also a pleasurable experience because it just smells so delicious. Will definitely continue to dine here or pop in for a snack. read more

Best Indian food ever! My girlfriend and I where skeptical at first but once we say that this indian place was all organic we had to try it out. We went for it and it was amazing, most regular indian food weighs you down and this was so full of flavor and it was light not over cooked, no oils or a to much ghee it was simply perfect it was just a nice relaxed lunch and the staff where so friendly and kind. If there is one thing I have learned in my time on this planet, it's that I don't know what I'm talking about 99% of the time. This review will prove to be no different. Good Indian food, much like good Chinese, is hard to find. I enjoy Cafe Lotus a lot. My credentials on Indian cuisine amount to no more than I watch Anthony Bourdain (he seems to go to India a lot), I cried during Slumdog Millionaire, and I find Aziz Ansari hilarious. Luckily I don't judge my food by trite and vaguely racist stereotypes. I found the food a tad oily but whatever. The service wasn't great but I enjoyed the food enough for me to overlook it. The portions at first looked a but small and then when bird stomach acted up I felt shame. I had the lunch tandori chicken last time with rice and have been craving it since. I love the service at this place. They are always extremely happy to see us when we come in and greet us with a smile. They always bring me a plate of onion salad - I don't even have to ask anymore. Though the place is rather small, once you're situated you hardly notice the cramped dining quarters. You can't be put off by the restaurant's small size - it is called Lotus Cafe after all. If it's a spacious dining room and fancy dinnerware you're looking for, then head to the Lotus Restaurant in San Rafael. The food here is great, and the price range of 8-12 dollars per dish is not that uncommon in upscale Indian dining. Their baingan bharta is amazing. It is perfectly spiced and tastes homemade. Most importantly, their food is extremely fresh and good-tasting. What impresses me further about Cafe Lotus is that they attempt to use local produce, at the very least local meats. read more

I love Indian food and so what could be better than an organic Indian restaurant? They do a great job at this little place, you feel like family. It's a simple, unpretentious cafe with wonderful food and service, don't expect a fancy restaurant. Fresh roses on each table and warm plates are a nice touch. Only Indian restaurant we've ever been to that serves brown rice on request- and it is flavored with peas and parsley. The veggie pakoras are the best and we really like the Navrattan Korma. All the food tastes very fresh and leaves one with a lighter feeling, not overly rich or greasy like some Indian food. It is a find. read more

Lotus Cafe is Great! The Chicken Tikka Masala is awesome. Naan and zuchini veg dish are the best. They even have brown rice along with gluten free naan! It really is great. When you are a silly yak you just know that there will be some foods that you will never ever eat again, and the be honest it can be sad. My girl and I were so very ecstatic to find a traditional Indian restaurant after moving to Fairfax with an organic menu to boot! The staff is very kind and the service is always fast. My favorite is their chicken tikka masala though everything on the menu looks good including the steaming plates of tandoori that they deliver fresh off the grill. Though the place is pretty small with only a few tables, the subtleties like cool Indian music and/or a tasty bottle of Eel River Organic Porter make it all worth while. read more

This is my favorite Indian restaurant, and I have been to India and stayed with an Indian family in Bombay/Mumbai, where the food was delicious. The staff is great and very attentive, and provides excellent service. The place is rather small but clean, and the food is fresh and excellent. They are a great place to go for dinner especially in the winter. The chai tea is super good and the curries are delicious.

We recently came here for take-out and were very impressed with the quality of the food. We've certainly been to a really broad range of Indian restaurants on our travels from Biriyani street stands in back alleys in Penang to 5 star fine dining Indian tasting menus in Singapore. This is Northern Indian food, very classic dishes executed just a cut above what I expected from a casual little neighbourhood place. If you like spice, ask for it. This is my favorite Indian restaurant. The food is so good and they cook it fresh in their kitchen. The employees are very friendly. In my opinion this is the best Indian restaurant in Marin. Where do I begin? Cafe Lotus is my favorite restaurant in Marin. Maybe I'm biased because I live in Fairfax but I think it's the best Indian restaurant I've ever been to. My first time coming her was about a year ago. My neighbor recommended them and I am so happy she did. Our server was this kind older man who seriously left us feeling just as happy and great as the food did. That first impression of good hospitality left a permanent impression. My boyfriend and I now come here at least once a week for our date night, sometimes twice in a row because we cannot get enough. The owner, his wife, and the staff are always so kind and courteous, always greeting us when we come to Lotus. The menu is heavenly, though it is hard for us to steer from our usual, which is the Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Basmatic Rice, and Garlic Naan. Make sure to try their Chai and Veggie Pakoras as well! Overall, I think this place is perfect. The only thing that could take this to the next level is if I were to get married and could get them to cater the whole thing ;) read more

Excellent traditional Indian food. Chicken curry is delicious, I usually get that every time I go. Really enjoy dipping my naan in the sauce as well as the lathering the rice in it as well. The place is a bit small and the good may be somewhat expensive but the taste is great. If you're feeling like some Indian food this place is your to satisfy your craving. Cafe Lotus is the best Indian food I have ever had. We discovered it earlier his year after a trip to Muir Woods when we had family visiting, and now it is there only place we think about eating anytime we're in the vicinity. The gluten free naan is absolutely incredible, and Cafe Lotus is extremely vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free friendly, with an easily labeled menu. This time I got a vegan and gluten free curry dish with carrots, onions, and all sorts of deliciousness and my boyfriend got the mushroom tikka masala special which he said was incredible. The eating area was very small with only a few tables. if the weather had been warmer i would have eaten out on the large patio. I especially liked the art work in the bathroom.
