One of the best indian Cafés I've ever tried. Service was very friendly and helpful in choosing my dishes, professional and welcoming. Food was amazing, I had some whole wheat chapati, chicken samosas, and spinach kebab with sauces. Very flavourful and complex in taste, simple at the same time. I'd go back again next time I'm going to San Francisco. I ate outside in the Sun, which made the experience even better, as I was soaking up all the sunny weather I could.

It was my first time to ever try Indian food. Friend noted it is not that great. It was good enough for a first timer like me. My friend and I loved the chicken (with soup in the picture) with the naan bread. The naan bread was truly yummy. Barbecue chicken for first timers like me was yummy. Service was slow and terrible though. We decided not to order extra naan bread since the service was really slow. At the time of our visit, place wasn't busy. There were only three filled tables including ours.

Working in Sausalito, CA for the day. This place was one of the few restaurants open this early in the morning 10:30am. Choices limited I'm this are during this time. I'm glad I stopped here, the good was piping HOT. I ordered the Butter Chicken Platter. Came w/all the fixings, basmati rice, Nan, desert. Pretty & beautiful area to walk by around... ocean views just a few feet away (around the corner) Street parking, one restroom (gender neutral)small dining indoors & outside patio seating as well.

I came to Sartaj on a weekday evening and it was easy to get a table inside. It's such a cute place on the outside and cozy inside. My favorite thing about Sartaj is that they have dairy chai and a dairy-free chai! PLUS, it is available during dinner for costumers to serve themselves. The food was super yummy! I usually go to another spot, but Sartaj has become my favorite! Definitely recommend coming hear for a delicious meal.

Sartaj is a North Indian restaurant with outdoor and indoor dining. The chicken tikka marsala with basmati rice I had for a late lunch was tepid (not hot). I also ordered almond milk chai. The dispenser for this is self service but only had a mouthful's worth. Had to wait a long, long time to get my beverage. The place was super busy mid afternoon! Guess the kitchen was too swamped with groups of (majority) Indian diners. But that's a good sign, right? On the fence about trying again as the chicken was dry and needed salt. A local place to enjoy some OK Indian food. The chai could be stronger and more authentic.

Horrible service. Food takes forever to come out and when it arrives it's cold. Tons of better alternatives in the area.

There's something for everyone here. I was impressed to see a gluten-free vegetarian samosa in the apps! I have a few gluten-free friends so this would be great for them to come a try! On top of that, Avatar's takes pride in being open to accommodate to customers' dietary requqests as best they can, so the menu isn't extremely fixed. Their food and service are top notch! For my first visit, we were greeted warmly and were able to get a table right away since we went at an off peak dining hour. I'm easy, I just went with Dahl and Basmati. It's my favorite thing even tho it's super basic. The dahl was packed full of flavor, eating it was such a delight. I hope someday they'll create a vegan-friendly dessert or even a vegan Mango Lassi. I can't wait for my next visit when I'm in the area.

Great spot for clean, comforting food and a warm, personal dining experience.

I wish my wife would make Indian food but she is not Indian. Anyways, I started with the palace or derves plate for two. I am one person but i usually eat for two. It was delicious. I thought about ordering a second plate but wanted to save room for the main course. I ordered the Raja special because I think that word means king and I am a king for sure. It was amazing. I saved room for dessert and had the indian ice cream. i forget what it was called but it was good. I enjoyed it for sure and will bring my wife next time. Thank you. -Phil

The setting/location is what throws every visitor/non-local off, let alone the naysayers who have never tried it. Yet once you walk in you are transported to a white linen tablecloth and china set tables for a most delicious Chai tea and Indian meal. Booths and tables- eating there is my personal favorite but we tend to get it to go. When my kids were small they like that there is a window where they can watch these guys make all the different Naans/breads in a traditional black tandoori oven? It is what sets their naan apart from everyone else. The staff is so friendly and professional, at this point it really feels like family. Don't know what to get? Tikka Masala, Paneer Bhurgi, Plain Naan, pilau (rice) and Spinach & Onion pakoras for starters. My daughter's favorite meal and restaurant. Super simple and satisfying-that cheese dish cannot be outdone- no one makes it like they do.

All the little side flavors on the plate are delicious- the chutney and yogurt sauce and the bonus- I was not cooking. One weird pice of chicken- can't bite through, my husband had the same-that is one thing we really get bummed about when ordering out, but with papadums and the 2 plates of food to go was $41. The service was fast. Ambience is small inside cozy and chill if u are outside. There is a stern vibe always- that can't totally relax into too friendly. I feel like the vibe in Sausalito is more friendly but it has been a while and that is a restaurant space. I decided to try this place reading everyone's recent comments, slashing their ratings. I appreciate this place for its diverse offering in this town but in this economy- it does feel a bit pricey for a to go plate. It was nice to have something different, so I still appreciate this place.

The buffet menu seems to change, and I usually look forward to their saag paneer, but unfortunately they didn't have it today. The ambiance is nice, with background music that's not too loud just the right volume. The dining area is clean, and the buffet is well maintained with fresh food being replenished regularly. The service was okay, but not bad either. One thing I really appreciated was how quickly they cleared our empty plates. A huge bonus is the attached Indian market.
