My Parents (and I) moved into their house when I was 10, some 23 years ago. It was a slower time, when the corner Deli thrived and the 24 hour Servo was just stoners wet dream. At this time there were two local food options just around the corner. The old 'Blue Whale', which was a fish restaurant (now a Bridal Wear shop....that doesn't sell fish) and La Rustica, an Italian Restaurant that had a take away pizza section out the back. Many things have changed, with another Italian Restaurant, two Chinese, one Indian and a Café all popping up on the same block! The only thing that remains the same is the Italian Restaurant....well, it has changed management and name but it still has parmesan cheese on the tables!
Allegria, is a small Italian Restaurant but it has a lot of character! The owner is a bit involved in the cycling scene, so there are a few references to the Tour and a rather fast looking racer often graces one of the walls. There is always a very good, warm feel when dining in, with locals and community friends all being regulars.
The food is of a pretty good standard, and probably more than you would expect from a local Italian eatery. I particularly like the Tortellini smothered with Parmo Cheese, the way all pasta dishes should be eaten! read more
