The octopus was cooked really well and it was delicious. The pea cream was subtle but paired with the protein well. The little carrots were cooked perfectly and were delicious. For dessert we shared a fruit tart, which was great, and the yogurt toast. It is a French toast like dessert with the cream used in tiramisu and some whipped crème. It was delicious and a definite must if you have a sweet tooth.

The restaurant we selected felt inviting and warm, without the pretentiousness of some other spots in the area. The staff was attentive, and both the food and drinks were exceptional. Having traveled up and down the boot of Italy, multiple times over the years, this restaurant has stayed with us. As we plan our return trip to Italy, this place naturally came to mind, which is why I'm leaving this review.

I stopped in after looking at the Galleria D'Italia, a space with free exhibits owned by Banca d'Intesa. This caffe has a warm wood interior. You may order at your table any of the food or drinks and the waitstaff will bring it to you. I spent a countless number of times at de Canto because I had just window-shopped along the Via Montenapoleone or had visited Rizzoli in the Galleria nearby or just wanted an oasis of quiet in this mad, chaotic city that was away from the crowds. There is no copperto so you don't pay extra to sit or stand. It's copperto free! I enjoyed having a cup of tea in each visit. If you order a coffee, you get a small piece of Venchi chocolate - a nice treat! Tired from shopping, from visiting the Duomo, from your crazy co-workers or sweetheart who has been nagging you all day, stop by de Canto. You will leave refreshed and feeling very zen.

I should mention at this point that they specialize in seafood and fish and all their appetizers were seafood and fish based and delicious! The first one was some type of ceviche-style fish cooked in orange and lemon juice. The second one raw tuna on a bed of shredded white cabbage in extra virgin absolutely insanely delicious olive oil infused with some balsamic vinegar. Third one shrimp with porcini mushroom again made in olive oil -- I could honestly live on that dish! Lastly, sea urchin bruschetta! The single most unique flavor ever. * Main Course: spaghetti with little tiny shrimp and seashells again made in extra virgin olive oil and oregano. Halfway through I was already full but could not stop having it! * Desserts: I just had some coffee and my friends had the mandarin sorbet and a traditional Sicilian sweet called cassata: sponge cake layered with ricotta cheese and candied fruit.
