I am a huge Japan fan. I love the food, the culture and the "other worldliness" of it all. It was with excitement that I discovered this place on Yelp (after a heads up from Yelper Charlie S). Located in the Arcadian Centre in the gay/Chinese quarter (whichever you would prefer to term it), this little cafe is pretty easy to miss unless you walk through from the Bullring side. Even then, in amongst the supermarkets, the accessory shops and the other cafes and bars - you could still be oblivious. The exterior is adorned with a cute green and pink sign and there is some outdoor seating available. On entry, I knew this place was a good choice to stop and grab a drink. With the boards offering bubble tea, sweet tea, jelly tea and loads of different varieties of cakes and pastries; you're a bit spoilt for choice. There seemed to be everything from the saccharine sweet cream cakes to pork buns and many different variations on sweet and savory fillings. I'm glad that I was with Charlie on my first visit as I very well may have been a bit overwhelmed with the choices available. I opted for some kiwi jelly and apple ice tea (like bubble tea, but with little pieces of jelly rather than bubbles) and Charlie had some sweet tea (served with condensed milk for added sugar). Both drinks came to about £5.50 or so, which wasn't too bad considering the size of the cups. My "jelly slushy" was, quite simply, amazing. The perfect drink for a hot day. It actually tasted of Kiwi and apples and the slush was cooling and refreshing. I had a little sip of Charlie's tea, but not having as much of a sweet tooth as I used to; I found it a little too sugary for my taste. We sat in the cafe and enjoyed our drinks in the super cute surroundings. Again, every detail has been considered to get maximum "kawaii" value. The tables and chairs look like they've been snatched out of a cafe in an anime and the shelves were stacked with goodies to buy and take home (such as buns, pocki, sweets and snacks). The staff were friendly in our brief exchange and seemed to be genuinely interested in personalising every drink to the personal choice of the customer. So thats a check for customer service, choices available, decor, quality of product and price. I believe that makes it a 5* review!

    Pretty ambiance

If I lived closer to this place, I'd probably find myself here quite often! They have a wide selection of Chinese style drinks and bubble teas, and a large selection of fresh pastries and cakes. The ambience is very fancy, but it's a very chill place, with some power outlets and Chinese music playing in the background. The people working behind the counter are very friendly, and their prices are very reasonable! It was only a 1 minute walk from the Bull Ring. I opted for the Buko Pandan cold Bubble Tea with boba. (First time trying rhis flavour drink ever.) The boba is a bit too hard for my liking, but good flavour. Nice and sweet. The Pandan flavour is nice and pleasant. To me it tastes similar to a young coconut with an earthy element. Not too sweet, and very creamy. It also reminds me of green tea cake. Haha. All in all nice place!

Love, love, love this place. It reminds me of the Asian bakeries back home, where you can get coffee or boba (er..."bubble tea" for probably the rest of you) along with a choice of pastries and cakes to take home or nosh on with your drinks. I bought mango milk tea with boba (tapioca pearls) and will bring my husband here so he can get his almond milk tea fix. They also have a few Pocky-like and savory snacks in addition, sat above the pastries. Bonus for this place is that the milk tea isn't too sweet, but then again it is all personal preference. This is a great place to have pudding after a meal, or if you're in the Arcadian centre and just want to chill. Today's weather was definitely a factor in my coming here ;)

This is where Parisian patisserie meets traditional Chinese bakery. The pistachio and pink signage is a clue to the sweet pastel coloured confections that can be found inside. There are dainty fruit topped tarts, sweet and savoury pastries, egg tarts and slices of luxurious gateaux. I'm a big fan of their Parisian-style macarons - especially the chocolate and pistachio flavours. The drinks menu feature bubble tea, green tea lattes, exotic fruit juices and ices and the intriguing basil seed drinks. Caffe Chino's range of bespoke and special occasion cakes is a stunning sight to behold.

This shop has bespoke cakes and each has a concoction of flavours and detailed design. Also has many varieties of different types buns cakes and macaroons. The shop is a small space but it's a nice spot to grab a coffee or a bubble tea to takeout or sit in.

Taiwan Milk Tea (hot, no boba), & egg tart heat up with Victoria O.'s kiwi jelly drink!

Always recommend here as cute date venue, date with friends or a romantic date. Or just treat yourself with a nice tea (Taiwan milk tea is my favourite!) and delicious baked goods - they even sell Cafe Chino's buns and cakes in the big Wing Yip supermarket! I really recommend sausage bun and cocktail bun, always taste so fresh and filling and less than a pound each!

A small flat white and small cappuccino for £6 total is a rare find these days and we both loved our drinks. So much flavour and nice, strong coffee. My only reason for giving 4 stars is that the layout was a bit cramped and it was slightly lacking in customer service. If you're just popping in for a takeaway coffee though, this is a fab spot.

I knew I'd love this place as when I walked in, the smell of roasting coffee flew into my nostrils, Faculty literally had me at hello. So more about this love affair, the coffee is brilliant, the cakes taste fantastic and the tea is a relaxing and soothing as the cute little tea pot suggests. The staff working were friendly and happy to offer advice (to me and another customer who had 21 questions about the origin of the coffee) - credit where credits due, the young chap answering knew the answer to every question! They are also linked to next door, a sandwich shop which is perfect for lunch and you can even order from one side and go and sit in the other or vice versa. Owned by the same husband & wife partnership and matched with the same awesome decor. It's not often I'm in Birmingham but one thing for sure is this fling is sure to continue every time I venture in!

It's a good location just a short walk from Colmore Row and St Philips Cathedral square (also known as Pigeon Park by the locals). The cafe itself is actually really nice. It felt lively but not busy when I walked in. I had a quick look at the menu and, as I was really rather hungry, I went full on hipster and had the Avocado Smash with bacon and poached eggs. I tell you what - this cafe is not cheap. The avocado smash and a coffee cost me more than £10. Can you believe that? In Birmingham! It did taste good but for that amount of money I would expect to have had 2 slices of toasted sour dough with avocado along with the bacon and eggs. The coffee was delicious so I would go back for that alone (and it wasn't extortionately priced).

This branch of Urban Coffee has a small mezzanine area where they sometimes have events or private hires making it more versatile than some of the other cafes. Due to that and its location you get a real mixed crowd of people in the store all the time. Everyone from young creatives right through to suited and booted businessmen are regularly enjoying a cup of the dark stuff in the chilled out and laid back space. My personal favourite beverage from here is a skimmed hazelnut latte....if you are into hazelnut flavoured drinks they syrup they are using here is AMAZING.

Located right opposite the swimming baths and gym, I always end up having a brew before a gym session. Being this side of Harborne, works to Boo Boo's advantage as you don't have to take a walk down the High Street which can seem like a mammoth task on a Sunday morning! Every time I have been in, it has been very busy. With a couple of outside tables and a massive window, it's great when the sun is shining on us. The Coffee is most excellent because they use Allpress espresso beans from London which gives their drinks a massive edge over most places some places in Birmingham. Single origin is offered though a Chemex, another brew method not often seen in the second city. If Coffee and Tea isn't your bag then I can recommend one of the many smothies they offer, which can have protein added to them. Boo Boo coffee is very family friendly and you can pop your little ones in the play area they provide. This place has been come a favourite place of mine to have some alone time or catch up with friends. Sure you will love it!
