Well this review is long over due! I quite often come into this Caffe Sorrentino, especially for quick business meetings. They have a parking lot with lots of spots (unlike the newer Caffe Sorrentino that is about 10 blocks South of this location). The staff is always so friendly, the espresso consistently good, the pastries fresh, sweet and delightful - especially the nutella cornetto, it's a warm, gooey nutella filled croissant dusted with powdered sugar. I literally have to have one every time I go in! I also really like that this Caffe Sorrentino has a real neighbourhood feel to it, versus a busy Downtown feel. Oh, and they also have a decent amount of fresh/frozen pastas and sauces that you can take home for dinner! read more

Now this is a caffe, an Italian caffe! To say that the atmosphere in Sorintino's screams euro-caffe is an understatement. It hits the concept right on the head and blows me right out of the water. Though I've never been to Italy, this place reminds of some of the nice caffe I've visited in Greece. As I write this, gentlemen are at the bar sipping away on little cups of espresso and wine while conversing in foreign languages. Plenty of big comfy single chairs line the east wall that call for you to sink into to and enjoy your coffee/wine. A picture of Italy's 2006 World Cup triumph is on the wall in case you didn't know where their football loyalty lies. A single big screen TV just left of the bar allows one to view an NFL game in a relatively quiet atmosphere. The barrista speaks with an accent that definitely adds to the charm of this place. The drink options are plenty, including alcohol. The desserts all look delicious. Even the sandwich options have an Italian theme to them. Really, feeling the vibe here. I tried a large moccacino with a ricotta cream cheese cannoli. The total was just under $10, which is no doubt pricey. However, I found the moccacino excellent. This being said, the real star was the cannoli. Fluffy, yet firmly textured, and subtlety sweet it was fantastic! In addition to the food and coffee, I love how it is quiet with contemporary Italian love songs softly playing in the background. What's not to love? Consider me floored! read more

I can't resist a decent cappuccino and considering the cooler weather setting in, it was a welcome sight to see. They feature LavAzza Italian coffee. While not the best cappuccino I've ever tasted, it was decent. They do serve alcohol in this establishment. I was fascinated by a bottle of Italian beer. I'd never seen beer from Italy before. I had my heart set on the cappuccino so I may just have to return to give the beer a try another day. The decor is very crisp and clean in black, red and white. There is a TV on the back wall. There are some interesting food offerings. They do serve gelato in the summer. They offer a variety of pannini sandwiches and some varieties of pasta. They had little bags of biscotti available for $1! read more

Lovely little cafe across the street from where I live. The caramel lattes are to die for! Go get one now! I have been here for lunch twice and both times I have been impressed with how delicious my panini was. It can get busy but the staff are pretty good at getting through the line. The cafe is well kept and the staff are very friendly! I can't wait to try the pasta they have for sale... I just have to decide on which one I want. The connivence factor is great for me, but I would go back even if I had to walk 15 minutes to get to it! Definitely go and check this place out! read more

Brought to you by one of the best Italian restaurants in the city, Sorrentino's cafe is a great place to stop and grab a real Italian espresso or cappuccino. Brewed on machines imported from Italy by servers who appreciate fine coffee, it's the closest you can get to Italy without leaving E-town (or visiting any of a number of restaurants in Little Italy). I also like the panini sandwiches here. They are grilled with delicious Italian cold cuts or marinated vegetables. There's also a small freezer for taking home pasta, homemade sauces or gelato. Caffe Sorrentino is one of Edmonton's unsung coffee haunts. The espresso drinks are freshly brewed and delicious with the rich flavour I expect from those sorts of beverages. Customers can also get treats and light snacks like soup and sandwiches. The place has a real Italian feel to it. Located a few blocks north of the downtown MacEwan college campus, I can imagine this place gets pretty busy during weekdays. You can even buy some Italian groceries for meals at home. Once inside it's a nice and welcome atmosphere with great products that are as low cost as going to a Tim H's, but as good a quality as you'd expect in Edmontons finest coffee establishments. Caffe Sorrentino is a little bit of Italy right in the center of Edmonton. The coffees are delicious and the food fits the bill. The staff are all very friendly and happy to serve you in their very clean and nice establishment. They also have quite a selection of coffee related items for sale in the back of the shop for making your own at home. I want to go back and try the food (they have sandwiches and pasta as well as pastries) but it looks delicious. Overall, a great place to pop in for a quick latte or Americano. read more

I've been to this cafe many many times and I always leaving feeling happy, full & content. Their food (especially the daily specials) are consistently flavourful and delicious, and their coffees just seem to hit the spot. The staff is always friendly and fast and they remember who you are which I love. It gives it a small town family shop sort of feel. I will warn you if there's a soccer game it will be PACKED, packed like I've never seen a cafe! Haha but I actually like it. It's nice seeing a local community all watching the game together while supporting a local business. For food I recommend the chick pea salad if you're feeling healthy and the cannelloni if you're not. Both are delicious! Their specials are also consistently really good! I normally get the Americano and its fresh, hot and hits the spot! Their Caramello is a little piece of heaven, and worth every calorie! :) As a very important note: I judge coffee shops by their coffee cup lids. Call my crazy but if a place cheaps out in their lid (TH!!) and it therefore spills all over the place I will never be back. Sorrentinos has the BEST lids ever!!! They actually, through a sliding valve, open and close! No more car spillage or burnt hands! Also I've taken the cooking class they offer here and it was fabulous! This has got to be in one of the oddest locations in Edmonton. In the midst of "lovely" 107 Avenue. It is the last of the establishments south of 107 Avenue that have a newer feel to it. With MacEwan university down the street, you can see that the neighbourhood is slowly changing. I have visited here twice with the second time being on Thursday. I had a moccacino. It wasn't too bad. Very chocolaty, which is something I like. ;) Me and my sweet tooth always get me into trouble. I have yet to have any of their food but I don't know if it would interest me. The cafe has pretty good comfortable seating. The only part I don't enjoy is looking outside and seeing the" interesting:people walking by. Now if they could convert the parking area into a patio or if they were to narrow the street and widen the sidewalk, then having an outdoor feel of fresh mountain air (kind of mixed with the exhaust from vehicles) would be good. But of course that's the planner in me coming out. Aside from the bar area is a big screen tv, which did open early during the world cup. Every time I walk in, there is GOL tv, something I enjoy. The only part I dislike are the hours of operation especially since they call it the "downtown" location. They close at 6 during the week and 5 on weekends. That's the sad part. I would have to take my business to Starbucks or Second Cup. So scemos, open later. Don't worry about who's around. What I say is take back the street. read more

Not sure how I managed to not go to this location for as long as I did. Allan G used to work around the corner, for cryin out loud! Lately though, we've made 2 pilgrimages in 2 weekends for coffee and a little writing by me. The first time, I had a Bacino (espresso, chocolate, hazelnut and milk foam). Yum! Plus a nice, messy, flaky Cornetto Nutella (a Nutella croissant, in other words). We got a nice sunny table by the window and I managed to crank out several hundred words. So, good brain food! The second visit, we only had about half an hour til closing time, but wanted to kill some time before our dinner reservation, so I got a plain coffee and a Pergunia Baci candy (like Ferrero Rocher, only with one BIG hazelnut instead of a bunch of little ones. Service is friendly, location is clean (bathrooms too), and they have refrigerator cases with various pastas and their famous sauce. Also coffee accessories to buy. This is now one of my favorite places in town. Just have to watch my sweets consumption while I'm there. Everything looks so yummy! read more

I stopped in to buy an Americano to go. Modern decor with lots of people hanging around. The Americano turned out to not be very good however given that this place is supposed to be an italian cafe. They use Lavazza coffee i think and i've found that brand lacking in the past. Not even close to Remedy or Italian Centre quality. read more

This Sorrentino's is amazing! Their service is quick and very friendly. Staff have an upbeat attitude yet the establishment still exudes a calming atmosphere. The food is always fresh and delicious and very fairly priced. It's a great spot to stop in for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a couple of drinks. This Sorrentino's is definitely cafe style based on how small it is in comparison to the others but I think that's what makes this one unique and so inviting. read more

Sorrentino has several locations but this particular location is most familiar to me. I generally do not frequent this place for any other reason than convenience, but having said that there are no sacrifices being made when I do visit Sorrentino's. I have found the foods to have a nice range of taste and creativity. The selection varies with a nice combination of standard dishes. The coffees are quite good and there is an obvious attention to quality. Sometimes the prices feel a little steep but I do not think they are outrageous. Generally a very safe bet that will not disappoint for a decent lunch or coffee. A nice reliable gem in any neighbourhood. read more

Overall the service, ambiance and food all rated well below average. Service: A reservation is for two things 1; to save a table and 2; to ensure that you're not at the kitchen or bathroom door. We were seated where we looked right into the kitchen and I kept being hit by people walking by me. The waiter did not greet us for 10 minutes. We were not served bread til the end of our second course when I asked for it. Just because it's red wine it is still not to be served near the boiling point. We had to continually ask for our wine because it wasn't on our table it was taken elsewhere to be chilled. We were served the wrong order. Ambiance: The tables were wobbly, the place settings were paper. It was loud especially with the noise from the kitchen. This setting is at a restaurant where the pasta dishes averaged $20.00 with secondi plates into the $30.00 range. Food: Saved the best for last, the salad was overpowered with salt with absolutely no presentation. The sautéed calamari that we had to ask twice for was good ( the only good of the evening) The main pasta tasted like chef boy r dee and had as much presentation as being dumped on the plate out of the can. If you like true Italian food avoid this restaurant at all costs-it is nothing similar to the real thing! read more

I'm sure you can imagine how much I love coffee if I have it in my Yelp "tag" line. Well there is this nice Italian coffee shop on the corner of 109 Street and 106 Ave. I find the location to be fine, it would be better if the view was of downtown but it's a good location to do some people watching. I do have to say they make the best hot chocolate I have ever tried (don't tell my dad, he will be heartbroken, he like to think he makes the best hot chocolate). Also they make really good traditional Lattes and Espresso Macchiatos (that I've tried). Now, I have to warn you, if you think you're going to get a Starbucks type drink you will be disappointed. Like I mentioned, they do serve coffee and espresso but they make like they do in the old country, trust me I've been to the old country. If you are hungry I suggest the Lumaconi (which is stuffed pasta shells with ricotta cheese, spinach and mozzarella with a tomato sauce). Or if you don't like pasta then try a Panini, I like the Panino Veneto (which contains turkey breast, brie cheese and some kind of cranberry mayo) or the Piadina Romagna (which as two kinds of meat, some type of cheese and olive oil). If you can save room for dessert I suggest you try. You must try the traditional Italian Gelati (ice cream). The fruit based Sorbetties are the best and if you are lactose intolerant, like me, then you should defiantly gobble this up! read more
