This cafe was recommended by a local; "no tourists (despite the location), honest business and good food. Frequented by locals". This is the same individual who recommended the best ice cream in Paris. She was right about the ice cream, so we hoped she'd be correct about the cafe. We won't mention we had ice cream before dinner ;). She was correct-only locals, or at least French speaking, in most of the cafe. The food was "meh". We had a great time to have a brunch at Café Beaubourg. Wonderful outdoor seating with the French people watching right in front of the The Pompidou Centre. Street performance music at the background. We ordered the Formule Brunch: Fresh basket of French breads Fruits, salad, French fries (OMG! The fries in Paris are SOOOOO fresh & it has this bright yellow color that I never seen else where) Eggs (with choice of scramble or fried eggs). They do have English menu although not all of their waiters can speak English. Here I learned the French way to eat their bread: a thin layer of butter with jam. Tips: French butter is extraordinary delicious and they come in "half- salt". It's not like any of the butter you can taste in U.S. wish I can get those butter in US. :( read more

After I visited centre Pompidou, I looked for a quick lunch, and I found this café. My family and I were immediately seated to a nice outside street view seating, in front of Pompidou. We ordered a plain cheeseburger, a plain bacon cheeseburger, and a coffee with barley. Before our orders, we received some bread and butter; my favorite. Then came our coffee, and in short it was the best coffee I ever had: a perfect combination of coffee and alcohol. Actually, how can coffee go wrong? Then came our burgers. When I took one look at them, I knew they were going to be the best burgers ever. I was right! The bun was extremely crispy and lightly toasted, the juicy patty was cooked just right, and the cheese was melted, but only to my enjoyment. Every bite felt like heaven; it was the best cheeseburger I ate in a while. The french fries which came with it were amazing too; they were thin and pleasant to eat. I definitely recommend this café and I don't understand why it's only 3stars! read more

Preparing for a full Sunday of exploring Paris, we put out the call for a solid brunch that would fuel our exploration. Fortunately, Beaubourg responded with a delicious and large meal in an enjoyable setting. There were two price fixe brunch menus. I opted for the smoked salmon, while my wife chose the sausage and ham. Both came with light and tasty scrambled eggs, A generous portion of potatoes, toast, and rolls. Oh yeah, there was also a fresh side Caesar salad (the real kind - tossed with anchovy paste and not 'dressing'). Juice and coffee are also included, all for ~€22. And, just to make sure one doesn't leave hungry - the dessert choice is either a fruit yoghurt parfait (labeled as white cheese) or a fruit cup. We had fun sitting outside and watching the crowds pass by the Centre Pompidou. The service was friendly, attentive and efficient. However, we did not feel the least bit rushed as we devoured our huge meal. Overall, a really nice experience I would be glad to repeat - or go back to try their supper menu. read more

On my first trip to Paris many years ago we stopped by Café Beaubourg twice for food and drinks. What stuck with me from that first visit were the homemade potato chips and overall 'scene' at the café. This time around there was less of a scene and not a chip on the menu. Nonetheless we had a fantastic, leisurely lunch highlighted by my ham sandwich sampler plate (think two kinds of grilled ham and cheese sandwiches cut into little triangles) and the site of a waifish French man single handedly attack a huge platter of profiteroles. Service is either painfully slow or wonderfully leisurely, depending on your definition and prices on the high side but I can think of few places I'd rather waste away an afternoon in Paris than Café Beaubourg. read more

So our last meal in Paris was here. So sad. I just had a bite of hubby's egg benedict and it was cold (okay fine room temperature). Shudder. Cold hollandaise sauce. The Café Beaubourg was my first love in Paris. Definitely overpriced for coffee (as it's the best of the worst brand in Paris, the infamous Richard coffee). But not that much for lunch. The good thing about being one the Costes joints is that they still share a love of quality. Anyway, you mostly come there for the view on the Beaubourg museum and the passerbys. However, if you must stay inside, the first floor is a decisive advantage because of its seclusiveness. Had a late dinner here 1 night. From the moment I walked in to when I left, everyone was so nice & friendly, even though it was obvious I was not a local. I ordered the steamed fish & rice, which they brought out in a bamboo steamer & with a bottle of soy sauce. It was delicious!! It was a mix of salmon & whitefish. The whitefish had a few bones in it, but I think they were edible or just brittle because they didn't interfere with my meal. Wine was had during dinner as well, also very delicious. They ran out of the glass of wine (verre du vin?) I ordered, but our server recommended a different wine that was actually very yummy. As was their creme brulee. Interior is dark & sleek, modern-looking & trendy. Crowd was mostly locals at the time I dined here (around 9-10pm). Would like to come back on my next trip to Paris, whenever that is! read more

We ended up at this place little bit by accident on a recent trip to Paris. We looked for several of the restaurants that we had chosen in advance, but one of them we couldn't even find and the second one was closed. So, we wandered into this place which is immediately adjacent to the Pompidou center. Initially, we had a few drinks: I read one for myself and a kir for my wife. Both were tasty and served in a timely fashion. For dinner, I have the seared salmon, which was prepared well and served with an elegant, upscale sort of tartar sauce. My wife went the less formal route and had a club sandwich, which was only ok. The best part of the evening was that we were sitting in an outside table facing the square in front of the Pompidou center. For this reason, we got to see all of the performance artists doing their thing, as well as the wide variety of people walking by. This definitely earns an extra star. read more

Me and my husband came here after having drinks at Restaurant George last night. I ordered fries and he ordered a burger, after paying we had to rush back to our hotel since we both felt extremely ill. He had a few bites of his burger and said it tasted rotten, and we believe we received food poisoning. We have been up all night taking turns throwing up, the rest of our stay has been ruined. in a city where much of life unfurls at little round tables, the Costes brothers probably still rules the best ones. the limonadiers(slang for café owners) started their empire in the '80's in les halles district & made a star of the unknown Phillipe Starck. it's furniture and utensils became design icons of the era, the café haute-design blueprint imitated to the point of cliché. if you're in the area, you'll undoubtedly sit in the terace, still unbeatable for people-watching across the colorful, sometimes bizzare but always interesting Place Pompidou. read more

My husband and I stumbled across this restaurant this evening and it was by far the best choice yet!!!! Being from the US it's been a slight adjustment with the service being much more laid back, but not here! The waiter explained everything to us in English, drinks were incredibly prompt, atmosphere was perfect, food was FANTASTIC!! Great place great good great location. Menu is fairly extensive and the food is just excellent. Loved the veal Milanese with penne pasta. The apple dessert is incredible and shouldn't be missed.
