This place has the ambiance for sure! The glass windows are floor to ceiling looking out to the canals and stunning buildings! We didn't need a reservation there was plenty of tables. The cocktails here are why you need to go here: aperol spritz, espresso martinis, and really anything you want. We came twice in our 4 days in Amsterdam. The bitterballen, spring rolls, and olives are just a few of the small plates we got to share for a group of 4. Overall the ambiance is what sells this place

A hip cafe with great bites and coffee! I ordered some fries and cheese plate here along with coffee. The staff was difficult to get hold of, my only issue was- and no refill on drinks until I asked. The coffee was good though and the place crowded! Lots of students connecting laptops and working on group projects - so it's loud!

This was my first stop on my Amsterdam trip and it was just perfect. We waited for outdoor seating, which took about 15 min without a reservation. The view is beautiful and was a great spot to just watch the canal traffic. The drinks were good and the appetizers we had were tasty and unique. The service was definitely slow when we went, but it was super busy.

We had a great time having a few drinks here at Cafe de Jaren. The drinks were really good and the service was great. Definitely would come back again for a meal.

Come for the canal-side outdoor seating and spectacular view. Stay for the delightful sandwiches and reinvigorating coffee. The biggest draw here is definitely the back patio with ample seating, relaxed and casual ambiance, and an unobstructed view across the Amstel canal. Well, to be fair, our view was partially blocked by a boat tied up to the dock literally next to our table, until the owners of the craft untied and sped off across the water halfway through our meal. I'm reasonably certain the breads on the menu are all fail-proof. We had a ham, egg, and cheese (somewhat like an omelette) with multigrain on the side, as well as a meatball sandwich on brown bread with a side of tasty house sweet chilli sauce. We weren't quite sure how to make best use of the sauce - does one pour it over the sandwich? I ended up deconstructing the whole thing, dipping the meatballs into the sauce, then having bites of buttered bread in between nibbles of protein. It got the job done! Between the convenient location, lovely outdoor atmosphere, and affordable snacks, Café de Jaren is a welcome getaway from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam's city centre.

We went here on a sunny morning and ate breakfast right on their patio overlooking the canal. It was breathtaking. And we ordered eggs and ham with the thickest fluffiest yummiest bread! And it also came with a croissant and ham! Yum yum! Definitely recommend this place. And the inside looked just as amazing.

I've had lunch here twice, soup each time, and the food was decent both times. Nothing spectacular, and don't expect the environment to be gezellig/cozy, 'cause it's not. What's great about this stop is the easy, central location and the outdoor seating (at the back of the restaurant). I can imagine that sitting on the canal on a warm summer evening and having a witte wijn is nice. So... maybe next year! Also, they have a few communal tables in the center of the restaurant that are nice for a group meeting - in case you're looking for a place to have drinks and food while working.

Had a wonderful three course meal. The salad was fabulous and fresh and the salmon cooked to perfection with asparagus and potatoes au gratin. Currently awaiting the chocolate mouse which based on everything else should be wonderful. The warm bread served as we sat was just an added bonus. Highly recommend this restaurant as it also has attentive staff.

I came here for the canal views in the back, and was not disappointed. You can sit right up against the water, watching small canal boats drift by against the backdrop of some pretty amazing buildings. There's also a fairly large interior too if the weather isn't cooperative - I was surprised actually with how much seating there was. The food isn't too shabby either. I ordered kind of an omelet-like thing with eggs, ham, and cheese, and while it was on the salty side it was still really good.

A Dutch friend took me here on my recent trip to Amsterdam. A huge lovely cafe with lots of seating choices - you can share big tables in the center, sit facing the windows out to the street, find a cozy nook and sit on a couch, or sit outside by the water. My favorite food in Amsterdam was discovered here: French fries served in a paper cone, topped with stewed beef and braised red cabbage - both kind of sweet, cooked with juniper berries and cloves. Delicious with a cold beer.

Sandwich with hot goats cheese with honey and thyme. It looks cute but I would prefer the cheese on the bread.

Big spacious café that is very classy but still low-key. Many seats inside (also upstairs!) and all kinds of drinks and bites. Come here for coffee, lunch, dinner or just drinks. I usually come here to have drinks and hangout after/before watching a movie at Pathe. Also a nice spot for having drinks after shopping. If it is nice weather you should definitely sit on there beautiful canal side terrace with amazing view.

Great location. Not my favorite meal I ate in Amsterdam but you need to go there and have a drink in the back patio.

I'm giving it four stars because of the food was great however I'd prefer for the outdoor dining floors to be free of cigarette butts.

He said water, so I assumed it was it was tinted from the lighting. When I took a sip it was a flavored water. I asked if it was gluten-free and he was very rude in his response. Basically was like um yea it just has spices in it. Spices may not be gluten free and could be of concern for a celiac. I asked him if any drinks were gluten free and he said all but 2. I wasn't confident that the drinks would be made separately from the non- gluten drinks so I opted not to get one. My friend got the bees knees and said it was really tasty. The server did come back and switch my water to regular at the end but he should have been upfront with what he gave to prevent any exposure to peoples allergies.

Flying Dutchmen is a really cool spot with great cocktails…read more I visited at 4 PM, shortly after opening, and got a table easily. It's a small space and can fill up quickly. The space is really cool, with some neat lit-up signs behind the bar and antique paintings on the ceiling. I tried a few cocktails and they were all tasty. These included the Flying Dutchmen -- their signature cocktail -- and the Umami Margarita. I was a bit hesitant about the Dutchmen because it was with gin and orange, but I liked it a lot. The margarita was unusual with some mushroom dust on the rim. Our server was very friendly and helpful.

Thanks to Iago from NJoy, we heard about this soeakeasy and decided to check it out. Reservations…read morerecommended. Carlota who answered the doorbell, was able to accommodate us at the bar (our preferred seating anyway). She took our coats, placed them in the coat closet up front and led us inside. Once seated, we were given gorgeous ruby red complimentary aperitif (hibiscus, honey, ginger). The drink menu is interesting, based on the concept of growing up, with more basic tastes to start and more mature complex tastes later on in life. (The drinks are more complex the later in the menu). I ordered the Awake at Last, and my husband ordered the Ruby Stone. Mine was sweet and coffee flavored and his was more tart and sour cherry flavored. When I tried his drink, I immediately felt nostalgic because it reminded me of umeboshi (pickled plum in Japanese food), so we ended up trading drinks. Both were great for supping. Sitting at the bar was fun, watching the bartender at his work. He was silent, focused, skilled, professional. So glad we checked it out! I didn't post pictures of the entrance or inside because I'll leave it to you to discover! (The fun of a speakeasy).
