Very nice cafe, sort of an escape out of the rain after touring the Louvre. With friendly wait staff, excited to please their guests. Almost to the point of going a bit over the top. I was finally ready to try the true French Beef Bourguignon cooking, a highly recommended dish on our visit to Paris. So that was my order, my wife's order escapes me. We were enjoying our time here, taking in the ambience of the place as we awaited our food. It finally arrived some 20 minutes or so later. And I was really enjoying this intensely flavored stew, my wife's sampling then commenting how much she still tasted the wine. And almost an over abundance in portions of the stew. I enjoyed the fried potato puffs included with it but finally had to push away, stuffed. And that's when it hit me! Now I'm not a drinker of alcohol but have dined on many dishes with various alcoholic ingredients cooked in. But this dish must have had an unusually large portion of wine because my head started spinning like a carousel! I had to sit longer than intended before leaving to get my bearings. Great location only a short walk to Notre-Dame Cathedral, and lots of outside seating in a busy area to enjoy some people watching. Food was great and the service was perfect. Our server Arthur was GREAT, and hands down one of the best servers we had while visiting Paris! Give that man a raise - euros all around for him. He was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had a great experience. Inside also has all seating in the front of the restaurant with a 'sunroom' with floor to ceiling windows so you have the option to sit inside not subjected to the weather, but have full view of the outside. Came in this evening for dinner and saw that the place was decently packed with a wonderful menu. We were quickly seated and had very attentive service. The waiters were kind and let us try to order in French and tried to converse in French. We highly appreciated their hospitality. Thought this would be a charming place to have a glass of wine and watch busy tourists and Parisians from a fun sidewalk view. But a street person walked up and harmlessly engaged with some of the patrons and the Maitre d' walked out onto the sidewalk and pushed the poor man to the ground and kicked his bag of belongings. Yling at him to go away. The man was doing no harm but laid on the sidewalk for a minute or so. And then the matire d' comes back out to the sidewalk and I say, " Do not strike that man!" So the matre'd kicks the man's bag again and then turns and walks back into the café. Wretched behavior. I promptly paid for my glass of wine, told my waiter how dismayed I was at how the situation was handled and left. Would never patronize the establishment again! read more

Very nice place to have a light meal and people watch. The food and wine was very good.

Very solid visit for a quick breakfast! We got a nice warm greeting and were seated very promptly. Took a few mins to have our orders taken, but it was still quicker than other places we've been to in Paris thus far. Our waiter didn't seem to speak much English, and likewise, our French is quite limited, but he was very patient with us and made sure that everyone was clear on what we wanted. It was much appreciated! Unfortunately, there weren't a ton of options for breakfast (although that seems to be a theme in Paris, so can't dock them for that). However, getting the food was pretty quick! Café was solid, as was the cappuccino. The croissant was fantastic. Wonderfully buttery and fresh; my favorite so far on this trip. The eggs were quite good as well - even though well done on the outside, still soft and moist on the inside. Not an extravagant meal, but all very tasty. Sometimes less is more! It is interesting though that you technically have to "pay" for the restroom. However, the waiter should give you a fake coin to use if you're a paying customer, so this wasn't an actual issue. BEWARE! Had I written this review before today, I would have given this restaurant 5 stars. Recently we spent a lovely rainy Sunday here with friends visiting Paris. We had a great waiter from Central America. We paid twice because once he went away to lunch and wanted to settle the bill. But we stayed longer and ordered more after he returned. A few days ago I realized one of my credit cards was missing. I called the bank and cancelled it. They verified that the last charge was at Cafe du Metro. I was relieved. We had been there. Great no bad charges. Today I got my replacement card and checked online. There were a total of 14 different charges totalling a little over 2000 Euros plus 7 other fraudulent chrges in Paris totalling about 250 Euros. I could see how someone may have found the card and used it at other places, but this was surely an inside job. Yes, I am at fault for leaving the card there. But an honest business with honest staff would have notified the bank or at least destroyed the card. read more

Attacked by a waiter! The tomato sauce, ham, and escargot was spoiled and we couldn't eat it. I told the waiter the food didn't taste right and he lost it and said he would have to chef taste it. The chef didn't taste anything! He stood in my way and pushed me. I was there with my daughter and she started to cry. Don't eat here! The food is old and not fresh and frozen garbage! Yelp everything. Learned my lesson always yelp!! This waiter was awful and I had to push him out my way after he pushed me! We left with my daughter crying. The short black waiter is crazy and rude and accused me of not having any money. I wanted to leave after I saw the reviews. The older man was kind and helped me calm down. Don't go here! If you want cliches then this is the place. Surly and indifferent wait staff ( though this was more performance art than real attitude, I hope) food is catered to the tourist too. Bland compared to almost any other place other in the area. Low prices but you get what you pay for. read more

The people watching here is good (but how many street cafes does Paris have with _bad_ people watching?), the prices are moderate (we paid €18 for spaghetti bolognese and bruschetta), and the location is wonderful (right across the street from the Maubert Metro and a short walk to Notre Dame). The waitstaff was on the inattentive side (my waiter forgot my order and a different waiter had to come up and ask if I'd been helped) but it wasn't exceptionally bad. I'm the kind of girl who can't start drinking early in the evening (in fear of falling asleep before the real night begins) so while friends are starting off early with glasses of wine and beer, I'm ordering a hot chocolate so I can stay awake when the real drinking begins. Thus, I've had many hot chocolates around Paris. With that said, this place has the most magnificent hot chocolate ever. They serve it all day/night on a tray with a vial of hot milk on one side, and warm creamy chocolate on the other, and a mug to mix it into however you please. They don't serve it as powder in water like so many other places do. I've never experienced hot chocolate like this anywhere else in Europe or America in all my travels (except homemade) and would recommend it to everyone. Their breakfast bread with butter is also yummy. But that and a hot chocolate together every morning won't help you lose weight lol. Open late. We were here around 12am. The highlight for me was the hot chocolate. It's must try. That's all I'll say about it. I liked the French onion soup even though it was more brothy then I'm used to. I had steak and fries. Nothing special. The steak was lacking in flavor, however a little salt, and the grilled onions they serve with the steak did give it some zest! We tried several deserts and they were all Good. I hope this review reaches you...before you go here... A croque madame is grilled, two slices of bread with butter, and an egg over top so that the yolk runs down and makes the bread moist. Instead, they put two slices of wonderbread under a heat lamp and put cheese on them...but separately, so that the "sandwich" was actually not stuck together at all by the cheese. Oh...and the egg was rock hard. In sum, it was dry and sad and expensive. I had a burger just down the street last week. It was delicious. For that same price of 15 euro, du Metro gave me a burger worse than McDonalds and fries that were cold, needed salt, and again, significantly worse than any fast food fries. My friends and I were looking for a nice café for dinner, and we came across this one. The service and the food were really good. I ordered les pâtes with the primodoro olives sauce with a glass of chardonnay, and it was amazing. The street view was really nice, and it's not a far walk from Notre Dame. There was also free wifi, which is always a plus when traveling. I definitely recommend this place. read more

So, where to start. Nice, convenient setting. Wait staff are a little rude (maybe over worked), Food is just ok, as is the coffee.

My 4th visit to Paris and this is the worst place by far. It is charming from the outside but we waited 30 minutes until someone even acknowledged us and it wasn't even busy. The waiter dropped off the menus and never came back. Even when I made eye contact he would nod and then never come. I served my way through college so I am very understanding but when there are about 6 other tables in an otherwise empty restaurant it's ridiculous. My French onion soup took 32 minutes to come out. And it has been 56 minutes now and still no meal. Avoid unless you enjoy terrible service. read more

This happened about march 2013. I have not visited Paris since :-( Trap for tourists. My husband and I were walking along the river and we decided to have a drink there. Horrid it was like being assaulted on the street: My husband was charged 50 cents for using the toilettes (which my husband said were stinking) and we paid for 1 small juice plus 1 coffee, 10 euros!!!! I love France and I have been in several places in the South : Marseille, Montpellier, le Pyrenees, etc etc. and be robbed like that in this coffee in Paris, it is just incredible. I told to the waits taff this, and he admitted it was expensive and said nothing else. I told him I will conserve the note as a souvenir of Paris as the worst place to go. read more
