As I went for one of these walks a long time ago, I noticed the H8S Cafe and I have wanted to go ever since. We went on a "local adventure" yesterday and one of our stops was finally this cafe! And now, I wish that I lived right next door... except I would just end up living in this cafe probably. The food is so delicious. I got a ham and cheese croissant with spinach and red pepper sauce and I am drooling just thinking about it. I could eat that every day. The hot chocolate was also REAL hot chocolate and it was exactly what I wanted. When with the chocolate chip cookie we got, I was extremely happy. The service was fast and the man working was really kind. He was open to chatting for a bit and you can just tell he's great with his customers. A fellow diner was on their computer doing a video call using headphones, so it's wonderful people can do that here too if they need to. (Without being disruptive). There are spots outside you can sit at too but we had come in for a small break from our adventure so we were happy and comfortable sitting where it was cooler. The artwork on the walls is beautiful (and some are for sale)- I really enjoyed looking at it as we dined. We also picked up a jar of honey with nuts as a gift for a family member so it's nice to know they have items like that for sale too! Overall, I love the vibe here and I'm excited to make it a more regular stop on my walks.

My latte was good though, but if I come here, I rather sit on the terrace instead of hearing the bang all the time.

It is in…read morefact one of the few businesses who doesn't suffer from the curse that keeps the rest of the neighborhood seemingly stuck in the 90s in the form of a small town with few culinary options. While it's logo and interior design is a bit "quétaine", Au Ciel confidently offers a fairly populated menu that includes many sandwiches, soups, salads and breakfast options for early risers. We had a vegetarian sandwich and French toast, accompanied by an almond milk latte and a double espresso. The food was good and fresh; nothing worth going crazy over but certainly demonstrating a sustained level of care and quality. The latte was fine; not the best I've ever had, but definitely better than average. In this semi-ghostly part of town, I consider myself lucky already to have been offered almond milk, so I'm not inclined to be too judgmental about the beans, which were very okay. The staff, which I assume was composed that day of the bistro's two co-owners, was courteous and efficient. They seemed very focused on their work whenever they were not chatting with a customer, awaiting future orders. Overall Au Ciel Cafe Bistro is a nice little place, and from what I've seen one of the few establishments in the borough of Lachine that serves coffee and breakfast before noon. Worth stopping by if you are in the area.

The decor is very homie and modern, yet simple. It's like your grandmother's house, minus the old people smell. Prices are very affordable, and it's all fresh and healthy. I had a chicken panini combo, which came with a salad and a bottle of water (12$ total). The salad had diced apples, yellow and red peppers, raisins, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and small pieces of walnuts too. It came with a side of olive oil based dressing that was delicious. The panini was amazing! The chicken was one of the most tender ones i've had, and it's cut into small pieces so that you don't have to rip it every bite (which also allows you to keep the panini together). The cheese was the same kind of cheese you'd have in a poutine, so you already know it was The little bit of spinach in the panini was the cherry on top. I definitely recommend this place! Good for a quick lunch, a nice afternoon date, or just pretending you're retired and you got nothing to do.

I decided to stop in and check out their offerings after reading their story in the local paper. The shop itself is cosy and super cute with beautiful wooden tables and chairs, stencilled wording on the walls, and clocks everywhere, playing on the name of the store. The back of the store holds the kitchen where you can see the chef preparing the pastries and baked goods. The display of cakes was quite impressive; everything looked beautiful. They also had their pastries on display including muffins, croissants and biscotti. I ordered an almond milk latte with a chocolate-almond croissant. That croissant was delicious! Nice pastry and the filling was super generous and so moist, I had to hold myself from buying a second. The coffee was very nicely prepared, good espresso base and the almond milk was perfectly tempered. I noticed they also offer salads, soups and sandwiches which I will definitely try for lunch sometime. I especially liked the friendly and great service; they really made me feel welcomed and that's exactly what I like about a neighbourhood cafe. I am grateful for this new addition to the 'hood: perfect coffee, delicious pastries, great quality and personable service. I look forward to my next visit!
