First time visiting this place, but it's not new. In fact, it's been in the neighborhood for 5-6 years! Might be cause the storefront is not the most obvious as the bakery is quite small. The focal point of the bakery is of course, the counter. There is a paper ticket system for service on busier days. When I went in, it was quiet so ticket optional. We were greeted right away by friendly staff. When I asked for recommendations, Marie took me on a visual and descriptive tour highlighting some of their specialty products. I went for the seasonal maple roll dusted with icing sugar, topped with white chocolate chips and a maple crust. Also took a slice of pear almond tart. They were both $4.50 each. The maple roll was densely packed and so much more than a snack. It's really bready so you could have it for breakfast. Slightly sweet and covered in a light glaze. The tart was light tasting and the pastry was full of buttery goodness. Texture is a little bit interesting because it's a cold tart, the juice from the pears soak into the almond paste and make it a little bit cold and slightly mushy. Some people might not like that but I found it ok. Service is friendly and attentive. Pastries are good but a bit expensive. read more

This is a very cute bakery and the pastries are fantastic. They are open for longer hours than most and you can generally see people doing work on their computers. Definitely have a clafoutis, I loved the pistachio. They also have really good coffee and sandwiches. The quiches are pretty good as well. I don't believe you could go wrong with anything you order. From outside, you would never guess how big it is this place inside. It was decorated with all colorful Halloween decorations. We took a corner place, which was very cozy. Surprisingly, there is a paint that we recognize that belongs to my aunt, so it was very cool for the shop to auction it. There are so many types of food that you will have a hard time to choose what to eat. Lots of kinds of sandwiches, various pastries. They even have crêpes on Wednesdays. My mom ordered an egg sandwich with the almond croissant. She said it was absolutely delicious; and I took a crêpe. It was just simple sugar flavor and it was very good. The service was very sweet. The server was limited in English but it's OK I spoke in French. They have a variety of coffees but their limited with their tea choices. Mamie Clafoutis is probably my favourite bakery in all of Montreal! I love how every location is unique and different inside. Seeing the stark contrast between the cosy and rustic 'attic-type' Outremont location to the sleek and modern Nuns Island branch, I was eager to see how what the St. Henri bakery would be like. The layout is more deeper than it is wide, with mismatched tables and chairs, neon green banquette seating and comfy armchairs by the fireplace. Despite being there at an odd time on a weekday, most the spots had already been taken. As usual, the amount of choice and variety at Mamie Clafoutis is wonderful. I had my usual Oh Mon Dieu (the out-of-this-world chocolate explosion pastry - a definite must!), olive baguette and a cappuccino. Yes it is a little on the pricier side but it is worth it as the goods are quality. I highly recommend their olive baguette which is so soft and moist. Mamie Clafoutis had been in my bookmarks for a while when I finally decided to give it a try, one fine Wednesday morning walking in St-Henri. It held a promise of delicious sweets, coffee and fresh bread; and it delivered! After glancing at the menu, my husband and I went for the morning combo: A sourdough baguette with cheese, coffee and a small cake, all for $6.95 each. The bread was on par with Première Moisson, the best bread in town if you ask me, fresh, soft yet sturdy, with a crispy crust; perfect! I find that it is hard to find good bread nowadays in a world where processed goods are becoming the norm, but thankfully there are still some bakeries like this one that produces succulent handmade breads. The coffee was great and the cakes (we picked a lemon and a caramel cake) were fantastic. The decor was homey and welcoming, the wall behind the counter topped with a cuckoo clock, chirping every hour, creating a fun ambiance in the place. If I had one suggestion to make dear Mamie, I would please ask you to add more cheese to your baguette! You spread it so thinly that I feel like you are attempting to ration goods like in the great depression. The 30s are over, Mamie, let us celebrate! This Mamie Clafoutis is better than the one on St Denis by quite a long way. If you want rich, buttery pastries, stuffed with chocolate, pistachio, lemon and poppyseed, raspberries, blueberries, apples, or cream -- this is he best place in town to get them. Screw your diet for one day and try the fruit danishes, layered with a creamy crème anglaise and the jammiest, sweetest fruits; or go completely mad with an Oh Mon Dieu: a chocolatine with extra chocolate and then some extra chocolate on top. No matter what you have, you'll have room for at least one of their chouqettes -- a delicate little choux pastry puff with no filling. I mean, it's basically a profiterole with no cream or chocolate, which means it's at least 90% air -- so it can't be THAT bad for you ;) Also, the tea is fantastic! the St Denis café uses Kusmi Tea, which I'm not a fan of, but this one uses Camellia Sinensis, which is far superior tea. I don't personally have kids, but this place seems very kid-friendly as well! read more

Nice place right beside the corona theatre I went at closing so I had no deserts to chose from which was the only sucky part. St-Henri is seriously a hot spot for sweets. Thanks to the many good places like Patrice Patissier, Leche, Rustique and now Mamie Clafoutis I feel my pants get a little tighter every time I enter that part of Montreal. Mamie Clafoutis has long been on my list of places to try but since I rarely find myself by their St-Denis location I had yet to give it a go. Imagine my delight when I found out they had one next to the Atwater Market. It was late afternoon so I thought best to only get a snack. They do have a variety of sandwiches and salads though so I will definitely be trying them out for lunch in the future. Anyways a chocolatine and small latte came to only slightly more than $5 which wasn't too bad at all and the quality was topnotch. The chocolatine was crispy on the outside but buttery and flaky on the inside and it had just the right amount of chocolate in it. The latte was also pretty good and puts Starbucks to shame. Location: Southwest (technically, I guess we're in St. Henri), on Notre-Dame. The closest subway is Lionel-Groulx (less than a 10-minute walk from there) and street parking is available [metered]. The place: Built more on the long then on the wide, seats are limited and a little close together. If you're feeling sociable, you're all set but if you have issues with strangers invading your space then try to get a table as opposed to the banquet by the door. In terms, of decor, the space is simple but cozy and its main attraction is of course, the counter of goodies that is prominently displayed. The line situation can get a little messy I think, as there's no real order but basically, you order then you pay. I'm not really sure if there should be two lines or not - sometimes it looks like the bread people have their own thing going on while the pastry people have got theirs, so.... just pay attention and you should be good. The goods: After a day of traipsing around, shooting various parts of the southwest, we were in need of hot drink and a quick snack. I kept in pretty simple and went with a cappuccino and a cake aux fruits. My buddy had some tea and the sugar pie. First, I thoroughly enjoyed the coffee but forgot to ask the what beans they use. Secondly, the cake (which looked like a muffin but is a little heavier) was fantastic. It had fresh blueberries, raspberries and cherries and was the absolute perfect blend of sweet and tart. Despite it's heavier texture, I didn't feel stuffed after eating the cake. My friend, who generally has a tendency towards salt, LOVED the sugar pie. I could see the delight in his eyeballs as he devoured it. Service: Good! The person who took my order was friendly, and the fellow who was working with her told us all about how they make that crazy maple cake in a can deal. I stayed away from that one... I have been to their st denis location and have always been delighted by their sweet treats and warm location. I was really disappointed to try their chocolatine which was the lack of airy and flaky. So disappointed with the service here. We ordered 2 small london fogs, one with soy milk. We got charged for 2 medium london fogs and got both with regular milk. They tasted bland and looked horrible. Our server was a new trainee which is totally fine. So we went up to him and asked to get one changed to soy milk and he argued that it was made with soy milk. We did not even mention that he charged us for a medium instead of a small. Then we asked if there was no sweetener and we were told "london fogs are made without syrup"... which is totally false. Anyways he made me my soy london fog (still looking horrible) which obviously did not taste like the first one I got. I also overheard him talking with his manager and he DID make a mistake in our order. Then we saw another customer order a london fog and it looked NOTHING like ours. So I went up to the manager to ask nicely if there was a mistake with ours. She first left me hanging, completely ignoring me, wiping down her interac machine... lol then when I asked her about our drinks, she gave me a condescending smile and said "there is no froth on london fogs, it's just plain water tea and milk that's it" All this for a london fog I've been craving :( Plus I was so generous with my tip. Worst experience ever, I have come to this chain many times to the other wonderful locations in Montreal, but this location is not owned by MAmie Clafoutis ..it is owned by an individual who does not want to keep the standards of this wonderful bakery up to par... I spent $140 here and I wasn't even able to get my food warmed properly. I ordered a quiche and it was frozen inside... the lady took it back twice and it was still frozen and then she touch the inside of the quiche with her bare hands and came back with the same quiche that she had touched reheat it up. She would not give me a refund or a new one to replace this one... I had to throw the food away, this is not acceptable... If the person is going to touch the food they need to throw it away or give me a fresh one not reserve the one she touched back to me... This is not sanitary this is disgusting... This is not the way you treat a customer especially after I purchased so many things here. Also I ordered the canalle and it was burnt on the bottom , many of the pastries were dry another disappointment. If I would've known this I would not of bought so many things but since there's no refund I had to take these horrible items home ...DO NOT EAT at this location !!!! Surprisingly good Cafe! Service was fast, the decor was clean, and food was fresh and delicious. We had the croque Mama, chocolate chip cookie, flan, tomato & mozzarella tarte + coffee and cappuccino. Lots of paid street parking and about 4 blocks from Lionel Giroux. Love this place, especially the quiches, the oh mon dieu croissant (chocolate on top and inside) and on our most recent trip to MTL got some stuff to go for our drive home -- I had a curried chicken sandwich on a seeded baguette that was delicious, my daughter a butter croissant and my wife a roasted veggie sandwich, all very manageable in the car on the ride back. Their pistachio croissant is really good! It's a little bit on the sweeter side but has a nice touch when you pair it with coffee. The place is nice but seating is a bit limited and tight. It looked like they were building seating outside the place when I went. One thing though, my friend had ordered a london fog but they made her a latte instead. They ended up fixing the order but apparently the london fog costs a bit more than the latte and they made her pay the extra. It's understandable but it would've been nice if they just let that go since it was their mistake. Other than that, their croissant is definitely worth a try. This is a sadly average bakery. We were looking forward to trying out Mamie Clafoutis but were really (really) disappointed. The pastry certainly was NOT fresh -- soggy, tough crusts on both the tarts and clafoutis we tried. We ordered croissants which were flavorless and heavy instead of being light and crusty. A bakery, a pastry shop like the ones I find in my home country of France. Thanks to my girlfriend who used to work there (I know she didn't go there for me but I'm forever grateful that she did), I managed to test and taste a lot of the cakes, tarts, pies, croissants, sandwich and the likes. And everything is good! Amazing even! My favorite is the Mamie Yaourt, a sponge cake filled with a thin raspberry layer and covered with white chocolate. I ate almost all of the one my girlfriend got for her birthday. Yes I do feel a little bit guilty. Their tarte tatin is very good as well. But what I love to do is go there early in the morning when the shop opens and take two croissants, a pain au chocolat (chocolatine is for the tourists) and a chausson aux pommes on the week end while my girlfriend sleeps and come back and see the smile on her face when we have our breakfast.
